Collingwood and Richmond - who has the greater supporter base

Just a reminder: Terms like “Minnowmond”, “Shrinkingwood”, “Dwindlewood” and the like belong on the bay, not the main board. Same goes for referring to either team as a minnow, when clearly neither fits that description.

You want CURRENT?
In 2022;
84,000 v Essendon
80,000 v Carlton
Do tune in today and we’ll see what we get yet again.

Case closed.

More members equal biggest club. Case closed. Doesn’t matter how dedicated your fans are.

We’ll see at the end of the season what the attendances are.

Fair enough each to their own I guess but in sport, winning is everything to athletes and clubs.

Just ask Essendon or Carlton folk they always bring up the 16 premierships, past successes are future history talking points.
Yeah you're right, everyone looks at it different.

A thought of the day for you.

A lot of supporters from "successful" clubs, need a premiership to be very happy.
But a supporter of a lower club just need a win every now and then.

Bro, I wouldn't be potting Richmond, take a hard look at your club. Yep, i remember those days but that was 30+ years ago, nowadays we are No 1 for revenue, eagles make the most profits and have the most money. Tigers and Hawks have the next most money "cash on hand" then pies.
Cuz, Essendon did more to save your club than alot of your supporters.

I agree with this because in those 3 decades we lost more games than we had won but when we won games it was like the best feeling, I didn't know any better because I hadn't experienced premiership success.

But, I will say when the real success came it felt different, for example when we won 2017 it was surreal, I was there and was thinking I'm at the grand final and when we won it took me a while for it all to sink in. But this feeling of joy and happiness is on another level, to win the premiership and bask in the glory of your team's success.

Not sure about that but I did go to windy hill to see rich v blues and all money raised went to Richmond.

I'll say now we might all have a go at each other on the forums, footy banter, but I would without a shadow of a doubt chip in money for any club like dogs, kangas or even big clubs like bombers, blues, pies, etc etc if they were going down.

Rivalries that's footy. I have many mates who follow all teams when we lose they give it to me like RD 1 blues hadn't beaten us for 10 years plus. I have no doubt when bombers finally beat us my phone will light up like a Christmas tree from my bomber mates.

A healthy bombers is good for the comp. Can you imagine all at the same time tiges, pies, bombers and blues in the top 8 coming into a finals series.

Over the last 5 years we had the most attendances in 3 seasons and you had the other 2 seasons. I really don’t care what crowd numbers you cite prior to 2017 because the topic is about he CURRENT biggest club. So you lose, good day sir.
So thank you for admitting Collingwood is the biggest because this year we have had more people through the gate than Richmond. So in this very moment using your logic we are bigger. You bloody beauty. Thanks for acknowledging

So you are saying you have more members but they don’t turn up to games which means they are both fickle and not true supporters. Thanks so much for yet again proving Richmond are not big.

Tigers ‘fans’ and that’s what they are, as they are not supporters have just made me laugh so much. They ignore season averages and say focus on the current only and yet in 2022
  • Collingwood have had more people through the gate in 2022
  • Only two crowds have been over 80,000 this year and they are both Collingwood.

Hysterical. Thanks for the admission Tigers ‘fans’. Not only do we own the historical records, we also own the present.

It's probably Collingwood but Richmond's membership numbers, finals crowds and average home crowds suggest Richmond have a supporter base that may rival or even succeed the Collingwood supporter base in terms of numbers.
On any measure that matters , Richmond has more

Members or
Attendance .

All the other measures don’t matter , but this won’t convince those with a cognitive dissonance .

That’s over the last 10 years .

Before that it was Collingwood but now the gap between the two is actually getting bigger.

Its not even that close anymore tbh

Ahh, the old Leon Festinger. I feel you are a little confused on this theory. You don’t have ‘a’ cognitive dissonance. If you are going to make a joke of people who experience mental discomfort in the form of CD then at lease understand it. CD can cripple people mentally and cause significant grief, anger and embarrassment. Shame on you for raising it in such context. And if you are going to try and make yourself sound intelligent at least have some concept of what you are talking about.

Have you seen the attendance’s for 2022? Who is first?

It certainly is not Richmond haha

that would be Collingwood, been at the pointy end for a long during the fifties and secured much of their massive fan base then.
as time goes Richmond may catch up.

I think you really confuse yourself. Yes I am saying we are the biggest because of our membership base, but we may not be as diehard as pies supporters. But being the second most diehard this season doesn’t mean we are fickle bro, you sound silly when you say that. For you to be so obsessed and insecure about this makes me think you don’t have much going on with your life, so think whatever you like man and just remember to be happy.

76,056 today. 50,000 Collingwood fans. Collingwood clearly no.1

Richmond only 21,000 this round lol

STFU you got 25K V eagles you know on a Sat arvo. Yeah, we got 22K v port on a Thursday night.
Go post this on the attendances thread and see how long you last.

So either you didn't go and you're posting from home or you're at the ground and first thing you thought to do is post this ridiculous comment wow what a tossa. Just be happy your team won, stop trolling this thread like you do the attendances thread.

Lol I did go to the game thank you….and I still stand Collingwood bigger then Richmond!!!

How many people went to the Richmond v Melbourne game? I am pretty sure it was less then todays game.

Collingwood Also got more to the Essendon and Carlton game compared to Richmond playing the same opponents. You may have more members at the moment but when Collingwood win a premiership the pies will easily surpass Richmond

Ahhhhhhh the personal insults have started. A sure sign of a desperate argument failing. How good was that win today. Yeah babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy. Massive Collingwood turn up today. The biggest in the land.

70K with vaccine mandates and you had 76K today on a public holiday. Do the maths.
Ffs you did win a premiership in 2010, lost in 2011 and played in another GF in 2018 that's 4 GFs inc the draw.
So no your comment doesn't ring true because you haven't passed us with success and constant finals appearances.

What does that mean you got more V ess on Anzac day lol and Carlton. We play Carlton next Thursday night no chance to get 75-80K on a work night.
When we played them RD 1 vaccine mandates were in place. Do you not think when you post? I mean pre-covid we got 85K in 2019 V Blues and in 2018 V Blues we got 90,151
Anyway, I'm not going further into individual round games, we got more in this game than you got in that game.

Out of curiosity why didn't you make this comment 2 weeks ago when Richmond was leading the attendances? Since then we had the bye and port on a Thurs. You had blues and dees. It is likely to change again in the next 3 weeks with tiges back on top. We play blues, cats, eagles and you got the bye and then giants, suns and kangaroos. I'll also add to this post, if you want to discuss single-game attendance comments. You know where that thread is> Play Nice - 2022 AFL/AFLW Crowds/TV Ratings/Stream thread

Easily 50,000 Collingwood fans today compared to 21,000 Richmond fans………again who is the biggest club in the land??

My personal feel is that Collingwood have a few more supporters, but it's closer that it may seem. Both are huge clubs, and great for football. Being a Tiger, I have a bit of respect for the Pies. We are separated by Victoria street, and have a fair bit in common in regards to working class supporters. Sure there is some good, and some bad, but all clubs have that.

Tiges have been pretty good since their inception to the comp in 1908. A few of our traditional rivals got a few flags before we came in.

Since Richmond entered the league:

Essendon: 14 flags
Carlton: 14 Flags
Collingwood: 13 Flags
Richmond: 13 Flags

They are the traditional big 4. And are for a reason. Will see what the future brings. Of course Hawthorn have a bit of a say in this in regards to flags too.
