I feel like neither of them have ever been given a fair crack at it, like give em a month of games with not being the sub ffs
Unfortunately, Fly with the, "win Premierships now" mentality, isn't going to give young ones much of a go unless they're an instant gun like Naicos. The question is, will he play Allan next year, mostly f/t or just little teases like he's done to others.
Wouldn't surprise me if he wanted a trade back to WA.

In that case Ed Allan + 1st + future 1st for Harley Reid. Will it into existence.

Port Adelaide is free to send out its future first-round pick at any time after clarification from the AFL, opening the door to a Jack Lukosius deal to be ticked off.
The Power entered the trade period unsure whether they could offload another first rounder, given AFL rules that clubs must use two first-round picks in a four-year period.

Port Adelaide traded away its first-round picks in the past two drafts and currently the club’s first pick this year comes in at 39, so there was some thought the Power would have to get in a first-rounder in a Dan Houston trade to appease the AFL rule, before being allowed to off-load a future first for Lukosius.

But the AFL confirmed to this masthead on Thursday that there are no restrictions on Port moving that 2025 first rounder.

So the expected deal surrounding Gold Coast sending Lukosius to the Power for a future first can go ahead at any time.

The Suns have been clear they will not pay any of Lukosius’ fat 2025 salary after sending him to South Australia.

Given the Lukosius deal reads as a simpler swap, it could get done as a stand-alone trade.

But the Power, Suns and Collingwood could dive into a more complex three-way deal that would include sending Lukosius to Port Adelaide, Houston to Collingwood, plus the Magpies off-loading John Noble to the Suns and Joe Richards to the Power.

In that deal, the Pies would give up Noble, Richards and their own future first, perhaps with a later pick, for Houston and a sweetener from the Suns, such as pick 23 or 29.

Gold Coast would hand over Lukosius, No.13 and a later pick and gather first-rounders from both the Pies and Power, plus Noble.

And Port Adelaide would pass on Houston and a 2025 round one choice, getting back Richards, pick 13 and a later pick.

The Pies have asked for 13 and 23 for Noble and a future pick but the Suns have plenty of other later choices they could throw in instead.

Removing Lukosius from that three-way deal would ease some complication, taking out Port’s future first.

Port Adelaide used top picks in the complicated deal that brought Jason Horne-Francis to Alberton in 2022, so essentially landed a top teenage talent, likely appeasing the AFL in its first-rounder rule.

And the AFL would expect the Power to use pick 13 in the draft should that remain the fulcrum of the Houston trade

when was the last time we have gotten a top talent after their first contract like that? lol That never happens to us.
Kids tend to stay with their clubs, especially if they are playing senior football
Best we can hope so, for those that get delisted.
Geelong did it pretty well with Henry and Bruhn.

We also got Hill kinda that way as a young talent that hadn't broken out yet

KEY MEETINGS PAVE WAY FOR HOUSTON PIES MOVE

Collingwood is still the resounding favourite to secure Dan Houston as it is urged to hand over pick 23 as well as No.13 to secure the dual All Australian Port Adelaide defender.
Carlton has now all but been ruled out of the race for Houston given its determination to return to the draft, with extensive meetings on Wednesday between Houston’s management, Port Adelaide and Collingwood.
North Melbourne is still in a distant second place but not officially out of the race given it is prepared to hand over a future first-rounder for Houston.

The 27-year-old is keen to play for Collingwood and if the Pies relent on some of their trade demands they will get that deal done by the end of the trade period.
Collingwood in box seat for Dan Houston
He has not officially declared he wants to play for the Pies given he needs to keep his options open but Collingwood is confident he is their preferred destination.
Collingwood would like to hand over John Noble and the Pies future first-rounder for Gold Coast’s picks 13 and 23, but the Suns are not happy with that deal.

In the end the Pies might have to hand over another later selection to get that deal done.
But if the Pies secured this year’s 13 and 23 they could hand them to the Power for Houston, who would accept that deal along with Collingwood’s Joe Richards.
So while the Pies might feel they are handing over too much for Houston, the net gain of their trade period would be securing two ready-made players while they were in the window.
They have secured GWS defender Harry Perryman as a free agent.

The Pies know their future first-rounder next year might start at pick 15 but be blown out by up to 10 spots given the avalanche of academy prospects which will be bid on by northern states clubs.
Clubs are already preparing for the academy prospects to dominate early selections given their strong form in recent national championships for the Allies side.
A quick timeline of Ralph’s brain farts since Monday:

  • we have the “Collingwood negotiate rationally they won’t ask for 13, 23 and 29 in exchange for F1 and Noble” tweet.
  • a day or two later he suggests that 23 should be enough for Noble.
  • he has fingerprints on the GC dealing 13 to whoever Houston nominates story.
  • now this once he finally concedes it’s Collingwood where he states Collingwood is “urged” to handover 23 as part of a deal for Houston.

How the actual **** does a guy get 20 years of employment out of the Hun and Fox when that’s the bullshit he’s running with. Add in the autofellatio attempts around the Rioli trade and he’s mounting a case as Australia’s biggest muppet!

Henry and Bruhn a bit different given they wanted to come home. Geelong is a bit different lol They dont have to compete with any other club for that.

That is a poor way to go about it. Pay overs in 3 years for a player you could have now. You are constantly chasing your tail

My post was a little bit of tongue in cheek but my point was I’m not all doom and gloom about not being at the pointy end this year (even if a supposed super draft). Whilst in the window. Some years we’ve had a few early picks that were off the list in 3-4 years. Still won a flag.

We’ve been good at finding some late diamonds in the rough and we will still add a top end talent in McGuane next year without needing a high pick. I’m ok if we aren’t overly active in high picks this year & next.

Other things could pop up too (like an unexpected departure next year) that would enable us to get early picks back in if needed.

I'm neither here nor there with Houston. He'll be fine. I think its too much to pay but I know you've got to overpay
I would prefer the draft. Not just any draft, but this one in particular. Just gotta hope we can sort out enough good picks we can use. Try to move up into the top 30 should be the key.
If the draft is as even as the experts say it is there should only be marginal difference in the picks. Therefore Houston should be the priority.

Aish, Murray and Adams. Considering how often it happens it’s been a semi regular move for us.

that last sentence contradicts the first half of the article.

I’m not too fussed about missing top end draft talent right now. In 3 years time, once they’ve completed their first contract & had a few years development in the system, we can just poach the ones that look good with a trade then. Simple.

Why has no one else thought of this?

The brutal reality is that all clubs have in regards to the trio above a vested interest to facilitate each others moves.

Therefore common sense will or should prevail without everyone trying to bend everyone over

Can’t help but feel if the deal is 13,23 and Richards then that is a substantial overpay. Hope it doesn’t come to that.
It's how it all nets out that matters. If we can get Houston for future first, Richards and Noble it's a big win. I think we will, and from our end it'll be about whether 33 gets better, gets worse or disappears.

Fear not about Smit. He’ll be a gun.
Yeah - he's got the talent, but equally, he's got the attitude.
He's got a bit of mongrel about him and had his own website before anyone really noticed him:

You know you’ve ****** up badly when opposition fans are defending a Collingwood player…

Especially when it’s a Melbourne fan. We all know they believe Moore hatched his devious plan on KB to lure Trac to the pies by deliberately almost killing him.

If players are just beginning to get themselves into the team, they're better off locking themselves into the team and thus upping their price for the next contract.
