I mean, the only reason we put up a good pick for him was because he's seen as 'elite talent' taken at 4 in his draft year. I'd argue strongly that after 5 years in the system that it's his cv, not his initial draft ranking, which should used to gauge his worth. I don't think anyone could honestly value him as a second rounder based on his output to date.
Hopefully that's where the GWS inside knowledge advantage that Treloar and Adams gives us will prove invaluable. I'm sure they would have been consulted extensively about his strengths, weaknesses, upside potential, risks, etc.

So what have we done pre draft?
In:
Wells - will improve us.
Mayne - slight upgrade on Blair.
Dunn - interchangeable with Brown/Frost
WHE - I'm not sure. Someone else would be better qualified than me to talk about him.

Out:
Swan, Tooves, Caff - all retired not many senior games between them this year.
Witts - our VFL ruckman
Frost - our VFL FB
Cloke - Our AFL/VFL FF.
Brown - FB who was dropped during the year.
Marley - was injured and dropped during the year. Lost his way?
Gault/Golds/Goodyear - delisted.
Marsh - big question on whether we ever see him again.

Marsh is the one I'm disappointed to lose and that seems to have been out of our hands. Extra disappointing considering both our plodding FB's have left.

Hopefully returning this year - Elliott, Ramsey, Scharenberg.

Looks like a clean out of what is perceived as dead wood by the club. Some of the replacements not mind blowing but we didn't have a lot of currency to work with.

Improvement must come from within, I think it can :thumbsu:
I thought BF had a policy against salacious avatars?

They see Mayne as a Upgrade on Blair
I see Broomhead, Crocker an upgrade on Blair no need to trade.
Blair filled a spot this year as there was no-one else fit or ready to take over, I believed we had that type of player already.

The fact WHE struggled for a game this year may not be an absolute reflection on his game. It's no disgrace being kept out of the GWS side by Stevie J, Toby Green, Tom sculls etc. He could fit in perfectly with us in the same way John McCarthy did when he went across to Port Adelaide who had a spot for him.

I know what you're saying, and really hope that's the case. They would've vouched for Tim Golds too.

Comparing Golds to WHE?
In as much as the context was the perceived insider knowledge value of Adams and Treloar. There was no reason to think Golds would cut it and he didn't. Imo there's little hope that WHE will make it either because the vast majority of mid/small players who make it have done so by this stage.

everyone complains that Williams brown frost witts cloke are s..t.. gubby comes in a boots em out the front door.. and we are complaining about it all.. collectively if you were to take the possitives from each one of these players and created just the one out of em.. that player would still be s..t

what has cost us over the yrs I believe is complacency and trust in cloke.. no big moves on any kpf for 5 yrs.

Great point. We should have been recruiting key position players in the 12/13 period when we had no less than five first round draft picks. If we'd just got one or two of those players in those drafts, then our key position stocks wouldn't be so alarmingly thin today.

I am going to be very objective here re the Mayne comment as the problem is we still have Blair and if it only a slight or even good upgrade is he worth 4 years? Can understand if he was taking Blair's place on the list but now we have two similar type players. I really don't understand this trade.
Maggie the only similarities between Mayne and Blairy are the number of limbs they have. One seemingly understands his role within a team and the other has photos of his coach in compromising circumstances.

GWS butt fu cked us on WHE, they give away everyone else for free but decide to make a stand against us.
Can't help, but blame eddie, as much as he's right he's gotta learn to keep his mouth shut.

Ahern apparently won't play a game next year.
