Ramsay, Dunn, Maynard
WHE, Reid, Howe
Wells, Treloar, Sidebottom
Varcoe, Moore, Fasolo
Elliot, Cox, Mayne
Grundy, Adams, Pendlebury
Aish, DeGoey, Crisp, White

Obviously Dunn and WHE are my wild cards, replacements Keeffe and Langdon round 1, 2017.

Assuming that Dunn comes in, I reckon my team is actually better than it was yesterday with Keeffe at FB. Also decided Cox starts in the FP.

B: Ramsay Dunn Maynard
HB: Howe Reid Sinclair
C: Wells Treloar Sidebottom
HF: Elliott White Mayne
F: Cox Moore Fasolo

Very few teams have Scharenberg. Think the club will play him round 1, if fit.
Reason I would take that position is because we don't know yet if he will reach AFL level. Most of his 3 last seasons out with 3 major injuries and even missed a good bit of his last junior year because of injury. He has missed a lot of footy over 4 seasons and hasn't done much in the small bits he has played VFL/AFL footy.

He has lost a lot of development time in these 3 years and his peers have gone a long way past him. Can he make it up and become an AFL player? We need to wait and see before we know he will be part of our best 22

Better believe I have him in.

I'm slightly :D biased towards the Bergermeister

If we end 2017 and Scharenberg, Maynard and Ramsey finish in this rolling 22, then it will have been a good year. If Broomhead breaks in then it will have been a great year!

Dunn > Keeffe, the rest can't argue with. Hopefully Schaz dominates the first few vfl games

FB Ramsay Dunn Scharenberg
HB Howe Reid Crisp

HF Fasolo White WHE
FF Elliott Moore Mayne
R Grundy Pendles Adams
INT Aish Varcoe Smith Goldsack

DEPTH Cox DeGoey Maynard Greenwood Blair Langdon Sinclair Broomhead Oxley Wills Phillips Crocker Keeffe Thomas Seir Brown Daicos

That team looks really skillful and mobile. Where have all the ball-butchers gone? Should play finals in 2017 if we get something close to full seasons out of Reid, Grundy, Elliott and Moore. Fingers crossed for better run on injury front than in past three years. We're due a bit of luck.

Only Pendlebury, Reid, Sidebottom and Goldsack left from the 2010 premiership

Maynard incredible stiff not to get a game. Also we will be no where near the finals next year compared to clubs around us like Richmond and St Kilda we have gone backwards also Freo will be a lot stronger next year

Agree about Maynard. Its a sure sign that our 2017 squad is better than our 2016 squad. All those critical of our trade period are conveniently overlooking that we're also (finally!) getting rid of list-cloggers in Toovey Macaffer Gault and Goodyear.

To bring in the likes of Mayne and Dunn. Also the fact we have to go back to Goldsack proves we have gone backwards

Maynard - Dunn - Ramsay
Howe - Reid - Sinclair (Scharenberg)

(Goldsack, Keefe, Landgon, Smith, Oxley, Marsh???)

I really don't mind that at all. Depth is the obvious concern so injury prevention is massive, but our first choice six or seven I'm more than ok with. No bad kicks there, Sinclair I rate highly for his pace and Scharenberg if he can have an impact is such a bonus.

Grundy
Pendlebury, Treloar, Sidebottom, Adams, Wells, Aish, De Goey, Varcoe, Crisp

(Greenwood, Blair, Phillips, Wills, Thomas)

Brodie showed AA squad form in the back end of the year and is the best ruckman under 23 in the land. And that first choice nine midfield looks great on paper, how well it can run both ways is key. The continued development of Aish, the impact De Goey can have in his third year and also how consistent Crisp is will be paramount. But if all three go well, that midfield is very strong.

Elliott - White - Hoskin-Elliott
Fasolo - Moore - Mayne

(Brown, Daicos, Crocker, Cox)

First choice is fantastic providing two things: Mayne shows 2013-2015 form and White can build on his good games the back end of the season. We know what Moore gives us and the heights he is yet to reach, we know what the 2015 Elliott and the 2016 Fasolo in the same forwardline does and I have no qualms about a fit Hoskin-Elliott, great get. The depth though is non-existent.

Overall, the best 22 (or thereabouts) is really solid and combined with our back of season form we're in a good position. It'll come down to injuries.

The negative is that we've lost a lot of depth and we need to replenish that. The silver lining to that though is you could argue the depth we did have wasn't much chop anyway other than Witts, and with Grundy in the way that's kinda redundant.

Isn't Gault still on the list?

Geez I hope not.

The way I see it, Mayne's a big upgrade on Blair and Dunn is much better than both Brown and Frost. I would have liked to have put DeGoey or Maynard on the INT bench ahead of Goldsack but think we might need Goldy's height and versatility. Regardless, to have DeGoey, Maynard and Blair struggling to make (my) best-22 is a really positive sign, IMO.

If Reid, Grundy, Moore and White can play full seasons in 2017, I feel certain that we'll play finals with this squad.

Yeah Jesse White. Dunn was no good at his prime and just played a whole season in the VFL he is a serviceable role player at best. Mayne managed 19 goals last year if we are relying on him to take us to the finals we are barking up the wrong tree

I doubt we will be relying on just Mayne to take us to the finals, I'm hoping the rest of the team will give him a hand.

I just can't see how we've gone backwards. We've replaced ball butchers with ball users. We'll finish somewhere between 7th and 10th. I expect that next year the competition will even up further (with the exception of GWS) 13 wins might get a place in the top 4 but will still need 12 wins to make 8.
