I'm pretty sure you cant activate the compo picks that late? I think the clubs do it before the season starts? I believe Melb activated theres, which equates to pick 3 and pick 4 at this stage. I think Geelong did as well? Can't remember there was one other club I think that activated their compensation pick also.

I also think we have 2 first round compo picks tucked in the drawer that we were able to trade back last year and the year before I think? I think one is a mid 1st round, and the other is a late 1st round.

I could be completely wrong on all accounts.

Pretty sure you can activate ones received that year, but early and mid first round compo picks are automatically pushed to the end of the round.

Yep, the ones that are tucked away can't be used this year unless they were activated at the start of the year. But the new ones from GWS signing out of contract players this year (eg if they signed Goddard, for example) can be activated for this years draft.

The other way the draft order can be shunted down is the free agency compensation picks. So GC' pick 2 is safe, but the second round pick might be pushed down the order.

Channel 7 said tonight that Tippet's team-mates think that he's going, but not to Brisbane as some believe.

Apparently he is genuinely home-sick and wants to go to the Gold Coast for that reason.

My attitude to that if I was Trigg and co would be

"Don't fret, pet, you'll get your clearance without any fuss, but it'll be to the Qld based side that offers us the most in recompense for you abandoning your team-mates. You'll be a drivable distance from home no matter which one you end up playing for."
If Brisbane is genuinely too far away to satisfy his home sicknesses issue, he is one very piss weak unit.

Just like we did with Gunston

GC have pick 2 and 25 as it stands. That pick 25 could be pushed further down the order if clubs decide to activate GWS compo picks for out of contract signings in this off season.
If Caddy goes they might have Essendons first pick to throw in

LOL at playing down Gorringe to underpin your tenuous hypothesis. The kid is a gun.

So what if we were able to swap Kurt for any of the Gold Coast ruckmen /tall forwardsir tall players.

Feenix says we would naturally take Gorringe (8 AFL games) and ignore Zac Smith (36 games), Tom Lynch (29 games), Charlie Dixon (21 games), Sam Day (22 games) and Tom Hickey (11 games). Gooringe is currently ranked 6th out of their Ruckmen/tall forwards. Throw in Kurt and they will have a very balanced side next year.

Gooringe showed some promise in his first season (7 games but he was subbed off in 4 of the games). This season a combination of injuries and players in better form (i.e. Smith, Lynch, Dixon, Day and Hickey) has resulted in him playing 1 game this year. So it's a "fair deal" to swap him for our highest paid player and close to the best contested mark in the AFL because their going to throw in Flannigan, a player who most at Gold Coast expect to be delisted at the end of the year.

When Kurt moves back to the Gold Coast, Gorringe will be so far from getting a game it won't be funny. Does anyone seriously rate him above Smith, Lynch, Dixon or Day? Even Hickey has moved past him this year.

Great deal Feenix, great deal.

If Gorringe were to be part of the deal, which I think could be quite possible, I'd be after a decent first rounder as well. Whilst Gorringe has great potential, he doesn't exactly fill an area of great need, he afaik he may develop into a reasonable forward, but his future is in the ruck and we already have Jacobs. Gorringe value, from our point of view, should not be that high when compared to Tippett.

So did I! It's probably 50 min drive from the gabba to metricon, as long as your not going through peak hour times.
Look I've never lived there but visited quite a few times, but it's more than just the drive. By all reports he loves the Coast, big difference to waking up for a swim and driving for an hour for one. They spend most days at the club, I know I'd prefer not to have to make that drive every day if you had a choice not to.

how many games had Jacobs played when we got him?
AFGM stance on this one is a bit hypocritical, he's very happy to give guys like Thompson a go because of his age but not Gorringe. Gorringe is 6th in the pecking order because he's been injured. Getting Gorringe fills our back up ruck need. He's big and could also provide the big target for us that our crumbers love. Kurt for all his good stuff also has a lot of down games, whose to say Gorringe couldn't produce the same?

Homesick??!!??? You're joking surely  . He's 25... Kids at 10 and 11 go interstate for boarding school for six or so years... if its true, quite frankly he needs to toughen up...

I have no problem recruiting Gorringe. It will be essential to recruit a competent (i.e. better than McKernan) second ruck when Kurt leaves.

We were discussing the compensation for Kurt. By any comparison Gorringe is not in the same ball park. If Tippett, Smith, Lynch, Dixon, Day and Gooringe were all available in the draft who goes first and who goes last?

We're not trying to trade Luke thompson for Travis Cloke, E.C.

That's a tough call because Gorringe has been injured, but at Gorringes age, Kurt hadn't played a game yet.

There are some on the GC board that would rather keep Gorringe and trade Smith. We are not going to get a top 5 pick and Gorringe would not be the disasterous trade you are making it out to be. There would need to be a top up to make it a great trade, and that's what we should be pushing for.

When I asked a few that up in Brisbane, none of them thought he was going. Sloane said "gut feel, I think he'll stay".

What did your sources say RnR?

Why don't we have a little side bet? How does a bottle of Rockford Basket Press Shiraz sound?

My god your reading comprehension skills are terrible.
You are the epitome of why I rarely post.
Not once have I said Tippett will not go to Gold Coast next year.
If you reread my last post I said I thought it was pretty likely.

What I have said all along is that you have no proof of a secret contract.
I will gladly bet a bottle of wine over that.
If you post a scan of a GC/Tippett contract backdated >1 year then you can have your wine.
If not, then you owe me as that is all I have ever claimed - there is no secret contract.
A desire to be traded does not mean they signed a contract a year ago.

When players request trades they invariably go to the clubs they nominate.
Tippett has always said he wants to go to GC and never to Brisbane.
I am done with trying to talk sense with morons. So FOAD.

Great deal Feenix, great deal.

Hickey and Dixon have made massive improvement this year and moved ahead of Smith, if it was up to me I would give you Smith and keep Gorringe.

I honestly think you getting Gorringe will be seen as a master stroke in 3 years time. No doubt many of the experts that are knocking it now will be posting about how you smashed us in this trade down the track. He is a leader, lives with Hickey, Lynch and Gillbie and clearly rules the roost.

The problem as I see it in trading Tippett for any combination of draft picks or young players (e.g. Gorringe) is that we appear to be in position to contend for a flag NOW and Tippett is a big part of that. The compensation we receive probably won't make much contribution inside the next 2-3 years and so regardless of whether Gorringe becomes a better or worse player than Tippett we face a timing mismatch which we need to make sure if reflected in any deal we do.

Our bottom line with Tippett should be that we deal with either Qld club - there is no way we should (or should have) allow him to nominate a preferred club...one buyer = reduced price.
