Havent read through 4/5 pages. I am appalled at the reaction to our boys singing a song passionately when we knock off WCoke, albeit they had a half a dozen players that can play footy and a bunch of premiership stars and AA’s etc, we got absolutely canned and zero recognition. Where’s the colliwobble slap? They lost to a team not much better than we faced? Seriously? FFS!

The Early Tackle: Round 4 AFL and AFLW Grand Final talking points

The Bulldogs’ top-four hopes are slipping away fast – and there’s one big reason why. Sam Landsberger looks at the club’s issues and all the big Round 4 talking points.

Shinboner spirit

Atu Bosenavulagi’s turnover in the final minute when he should’ve pumped it inside 50m will get replayed over and over. But before that there were countless reference points for what North Melbourne must stand for this season.

In the last quarter, Jaidyn Stephenson chased down Justin McInerney, Luke Davies-Uniacke chased down Errol Gulden, Bailey Scott executed a defensive spoil in a two-on-one and Cameron Zurhaar fearlessly crashed into Paddy McCartin.

Throw in Aiden Corr’s goalkeeper efforts to stop a Chad Warner snap, Ben McKay’s concentration to get a finger on Lance Franklin’s snap and Jason Horne-Francis’ first half – he had 16 disposals, five clearances, four tackles and almost a hanger – and there was plenty of Shinboner spirit.

Not since Chris Judd, and perhaps Matt Rowell, has a draftee arrived so ready and with a man’s body.

Jack Ziebell looked grumpy in an undersized Round 1 duel against Jack Gunston. On Saturday, he kicked five goals and gave away perhaps the assist of the year to Kayne Turner.

The Roos were desperate and did everything but bank the points. Importantly, they delivered the turnaround coach David Noble had demanded. Funny what happens when you’re switched on.

I understand the sentiment this was written with but I'm not really a huge fan of these types of writeups in the wake of a loss. The expectation internally and externally should be that these types of efforts (excluding Zieb's 5 goals for obvious reasons) are the norm.

Feels like a bit of "at least you tried" type condescending head patting.

Good on our players for responding as they are more than capable of, but I hope they are getting it drilled into them that this is the minimum that's required each and every week as this type of stuff becomes quite embarrassing if we head out on Friday and get pumped by 10+ goals again.

Sheedy complaining about too many 50 metres

Brad Scotts clearly said pre season that abuse and questioning Umpires wouldn’t be tolerated
From the conversation on 360 it sounded as though the bigger issue was 50s for twitching on the mark.

First time I’d seen the clips from the Tigers/Dogs game where players had been told to stand, tried to run backwards off the mark, and had 50s given against them. Highly amusing.

The 50m penalty only came in during the 80s because Sheedy told his players to deliberately give away 15m penalties to waste time and allow his defenders to man up.

Says alot when the CEO of the AFL gives his "EXCLUSIVE" to Caro. Doesnt it?
My take was a certain club CEO who wants the job leaked it to Caro so she could spruk his credentials in the same 'exclusive'.

Or she has some dynamite polo gossip Gil wants kept out of the news.
