Add our best outside players...

Dawson
Seedsman
Milera

It will help our use of the ball.
I struggle how people today can't see improvement from last week. It was way better. Add in more good players it will get better again. I also don't think we show our full repertoir of set plays in the preseason so there will be some structural cheapies we'll be able to get too. I expect us and Freo to have a good game in the opening round.

Keays is a good player, but needs to stop blazing away at goal.

Should be swapping Keays & Sloane's midfield minutes. Keays more midfield, Sloane more forward... as he is a better mark & kick for goal.

That was the stand out disappointing aspect of the game. 4 marks inside 50 - Port had 17. We were too tall. I think Gollant goes out for Cook or McAdam but hopefully our ball movement improves

We're tall because the forward strategy is to drop the ball on heads.

This match, and our lack of quality midfield delivery into the F50 from clearances, makes me wonder about how we’ll use Dawson

Will we use him as the link-up mid, Bontempelli style? Remains to be see if he’ll be best in that role, but worth a shot I guess

The other option is to try and hit a moving target. His ability to kick to a teammate is straight up appalling. He's got some great attributes, but hitting teammates by foot isn't one of them.

We will be playing Dawson in the midfield, mostly off a wing.

We are not going to use him as a forward.

We do need to develop a Lynch type replacement though. Gollant got a go today, but where is Worrell?
Brayden Cook could be that Lynch player.

Hinge/Dawson on wings. Dawson more mid/wing. Hinge pure wing.

Cook was disappointing last week, but I definitely see a future for him.

However, he is 1.87m... I want us to find a taller 3rd type. Worrell is the one I would like to see us give a decent go.

Did Keays play last week. Likely just giving Sloane a proper run prior to the season and “resting” Keays a bit as he already had a game - expect Sloane to play more forward in the season proper

Can’t believe how much time Sloane spent in the centre square today.

Really never thought that whole post-Dangerfield Sloane changing his game to assume the role as a contested stoppage midfielder thing would be going on 7 seasons later and not looking like stopping despite him never really excelling in that sort of role even when he wasn’t 32 and pretty much broken.

You seriously didn't expect Sloane to play nearly all midfield?

umpires can bang on all they want about being tough on holding the ball (lol) and abuse of umpires all they want, but it doesnt fix the real issue. many of them are just not good enough. a lack of consistency, understanding of situation and understanding of timing. quite a few decisions today felt rushed and guessed due to them seemingly needing to make a decision either way when someone was tackled. never holding the ball mind you, which was absolutely definitely going to be cracked down on. must be the other games.

i thought the effort was good, but just a level below over 4 quarters. to be expected. we looked fitter though, fogarty and schoenberg noticeably looked thinner around the stomach. liked the 2 draftees, and thought mchenry started the game red hot. thought the backline was really good, murray is getting quite good at using his size and muscle in contests. forward line was poor. felt like a missed chance for all the talls to really nail down spots for the first few rounds, instead himmelberg had a few nearly moments and a couple of nice ones. riley was decent around the ground and did seem to play forward, back and ruck. fogarty was meh. just doesnt run enough.

midfield worked hard when everyone was in there. crouch looked good.

Rozee's regression over the last 18 months would have to be a worry for Port, following the Wingard career without the AAs
He’s a gutless shirker..

Neary all his possessions are bruise free and half his goals are joe the goose’s..

Massively overrated.

Butters is ten times the player Rozee is..

And the pricks have got a good one with that Jones lad who runs off half back for em..

To be fair I expected it to happen once the side went down by a few goals and in Sloane’s mind the only way to fix things would be to put himself in there with the coaching group obliging hoping to avoid what the optics were starting to look like.
