Round One - Away vs The Bombers

Apparently a delicacy in Baghdad.​

Hello Wazzas, and welcome to the first Weekly Review of season 34. This is where we take a look at the round just gone both on and off the qooty field.

Season 34 sees us start with a two game road trip, and for the first leg we made the trip to Abdu Prison to face the Baghdad Bombers. They soon dispensed with the tropes and settled into a half-decent opening week of banter. Most of the usual suspects were there - the Guinness drinker, Captain Bighead, the hijab wearer, the dog, my cousin, the DJ, the new guy and some other miscellaneous characters. For us it was a great introduction to life in Sweet for the newcomers, as the rookies in FurTheWin SBYM & spudmaster took the lead from some of our more experienced hands and made an outstanding first impression on the league. It was also great to see the likes of Cesoir back into the swing of things!

The match itself started well, with us holding a 13 point lead at the first change. Things however got away from us a touch from that point as we ended up with a 30 point defeat by the time the final siren sounded. Maybe it was a air raid siren? Maybe it was Mr Whippy playing Greensleeves before exploding. Who knows.

Thanks to a bye, a two point penalty and some worse losses, we've landed in 9th spot on the ladder after round one. We can very easily find ourselves in the eight this week but our percentage needs a bit of work.

If there's been a better debut performance that that of SBYM then I'm not aware of it. 30 disposals, 10 marks, three tackles and two goals is quite the statement! Reigning All-SFA centreman Agent93 has brought his TFLUA-Tiger Medal winning form to Coney Island with a 21 disposal/8 mark effort that bodes well for the season, while another newcomer in persimmon in WaywardSonSon was arguably the best of the defenders playing as a skinny flanker with 16 disposals & 6 marks joining the industruious Mofra TubbsFarquhar & Piggy Smalls in a busy backline.

pantskyle did his usual thing in racking up tackle after tackle, reigning Frankston Rover Medallist FootyGuy13 found plenty of the pill and up front it was the Dinsdale show with five goals with another debutant in FurTheWin joining experienced duo TheInjuryFactory & BEEG in being the other goalkickers.

Now it's time to turn our attention to voting for the top 5 performers of the week. Normally it's based on what happened on the qooty field, but at the end of the day how you vote is up to you.

For those unaware, the medal is named in honour of the founder, inaugural captain and overall fat-arsed legend of the Coney Island Warriors, the one and only Frankston Rover

And finally something different. Kind of.

Each season we have awarded the Pwned Trophy "to the player who makes the opposition melt the hardest and the rest of us laugh our arses off. It is one of the club's highest honours, passed down through the generations of Wazzas in recognition of their services to lulz". We're still going to be awarding this, but how we get to a winner is going to change.

In seasons past it's been the incumbent Pwned Trophy winner who has decided on the next recipient, however that is not really a feasible option anymore. So how I'm going to run it is to ask for nominations each week from you all, and then at the end of the season the LG will choose a worthy winner from among the nominations. This way we pick up all the activity when it happens, and don't leave it up to one person to decide.

For mine, a good nomination to start with is TheInjuryFactory doing the gentlemanly thing and responding to a request from Ligma for pics "of your Willys or you get life in prison and death" in the affirmative.
