Round Two - Away vs The Furies

Happy Monday Wazzas, and say hello to another season's worth of Weekly Reviews. For those who came in late, this is where we recap what happened the week before and look forward to the week ahead. The bye in round 1 put the show on hold for a week, but we're back now. Bigger and better.

After the bye and the hastily-coupled scavenger hunt that went with it (final results still to come), we finally saw some action last week with a trip to the hippodrome to face a Furies outfit who are still in a rebuilding phase and, let's be honest, has not produced the most invigorating match threads in Sweet history. But you know what? Last week was different. I'm not ashamed of saying that I enjoyed it. They may still be reeling from the events of the past couple of seasons, but there are signs of recovery. They've brought in a couple of decent recruits, but just as importantly lost a few people who brought imbalance to the club.

From our point of view we welcomed CursingFijian and The Filth Wizard to Van Cortlandt Park, and both have had immediate impacts both on and off the field. The majority of the usual suspects were also up and about, in particular it was great to see Purple7x08_24 Mesc Piggy Smalls & Freofalcon get into it, along with an end-of-week cameo from spudmaster once he was let out of banzhammer.

Match-posting Friend of the Warriors philreich gave us wet conditions on Sunday (something to do with a prolapsed colon), as well as virtual water it rained virtual goals. And despite the match being close from go to whoa we made the Premiership quarter our own by kicking six (6) unanswered goals to put the match beyond doubt, with the only doubt being the last three goals of the match going to the hosts. But sanity prevailed, and we ended up with an 8-point victory by the time the fat lady sung.

The win sees us move from either at the bottom of the ladder or not even on it to fifth place. We're one of four unbeaten teams, albeit the only one of the four with one win instead of two.

355-game veteran Moo started on the bench before mooving onto a wing (see what I did there?) in the first quarter and ending up with 19 disposals & 5 marks as well as hoofing a couple of goals. TheInjuryFactory enjoyed the space on the other wing to pick up 20 touches alongside centre half back Snuffaluphagus while ruck monkey pantskyle had a nice game. Up front it was a scintillating start for The Filth Wizard with five goals from five kicks, along with some excellent forward pressure. He was well supported by Piggy Smalls (3 goals) and FootyGuy13 (2 goals) in a productive opening game in front of goals.





As usual, here's where the onfield stats for the season live. They're like from Sweet FA+ but with more stuff, like the colour orange.

And here's where the posting stats live. An encouraging 18 posters in round two, 13 of whom reached double figures which was awesome. The boffins at Sweet HQ deem 15 PPW to be the arbitrary figure to determine as active, and 11 of us made that mark. It's Frankie time again! I'm sure you all know what this is by now, but if you don't then here's the skinny...

I ask you all to reply in this thread telling me who your top five performers of the week were. You can think of this however you want - whether it's onfield perfomance, match thread performance, activity in the team thread & PM and/or any Warriors media you may come up with - as long as you come up with your top five Wazzas for the week and let us know about it.

The votes then get shuffled around a bit, put in a safe and at the end of the season get collated & delivered by some burly individual (last season Lord_Flashheart had the role) with the person having with the most overall votes being adjudged the Frankston Rover Medallist, which is our Best & Fairest for each season. The medal is named in honour of the founder, inaugural captain and overall fat-arsed legend of the Coney Island Warriors, the one and only yet permanently elusive Frankston Rover

Round Two - Away vs The Furies

Happy Monday Wazzas, and say hello to another season's worth of Weekly Reviews. For those who came in late, this is where we recap what happened the week before and look forward to the week ahead. The bye in round 1 put the show on hold for a week, but we're back now. Bigger and better.

After the bye and the hastily-coupled scavenger hunt that went with it (final results still to come), we finally saw some action last week with a trip to the hippodrome to face a Furies outfit who are still in a rebuilding phase and, let's be honest, has not produced the most invigorating match threads in Sweet history. But you know what? Last week was different. I'm not ashamed of saying that I enjoyed it. They may still be reeling from the events of the past couple of seasons, but there are signs of recovery. They've brought in a couple of decent recruits, but just as importantly lost a few people who brought imbalance to the club.

From our point of view we welcomed CursingFijian and The Filth Wizard to Van Cortlandt Park, and both have had immediate impacts both on and off the field. The majority of the usual suspects were also up and about, in particular it was great to see Purple7x08_24 Mesc Piggy Smalls & Freofalcon get into it, along with an end-of-week cameo from spudmaster once he was let out of banzhammer.

Match-posting Friend of the Warriors philreich gave us wet conditions on Sunday (something to do with a prolapsed colon), as well as virtual water it rained virtual goals. And despite the match being close from go to whoa we made the Premiership quarter our own by kicking six (6) unanswered goals to put the match beyond doubt, with the only doubt being the last three goals of the match going to the hosts. But sanity prevailed, and we ended up with an 8-point victory by the time the fat lady sung.

The win sees us move from either at the bottom of the ladder or not even on it to fifth place. We're one of four unbeaten teams, albeit the only one of the four with one win instead of two.

355-game veteran Moo started on the bench before mooving onto a wing (see what I did there?) in the first quarter and ending up with 19 disposals & 5 marks as well as hoofing a couple of goals. TheInjuryFactory enjoyed the space on the other wing to pick up 20 touches alongside centre half back Snuffaluphagus while ruck monkey pantskyle had a nice game. Up front it was a scintillating start for The Filth Wizard with five goals from five kicks, along with some excellent forward pressure. He was well supported by Piggy Smalls (3 goals) and FootyGuy13 (2 goals) in a productive opening game in front of goals.

And here's where the posting stats live. An encouraging 18 posters in round two, 13 of whom reached double figures which was awesome. The boffins at Sweet HQ deem 15 PPW to be the arbitrary figure to determine as active, and 11 of us made that mark. I say however that one Wazza post is worth ten regular posts, so well done to everyone!

It's Frankie time again! I'm sure you all know what this is by now, but if you don't then here's the skinny...

I ask you all to reply in this thread telling me who your top five performers of the week were. You can think of this however you want - whether it's onfield perfomance, match thread performance, activity in the team thread & PM and/or any Warriors media you may come up with - as long as you come up with your top five Wazzas for the week and let us know about it.

The votes then get shuffled around a bit, put in a safe and at the end of the season get collated & delivered by some burly individual (last season Lord_Flashheart had the role) with the person having with the most overall votes being adjudged the Frankston Rover Medallist, which is our Best & Fairest for each season. The medal is named in honour of the founder, inaugural captain and overall fat-arsed legend of the Coney Island Warriors, the one and only yet permanently elusive Frankston Rover

The other thing we run is the Pwned Trophy, which has been described as an award given "to the player who makes the opposition melt the hardest and the rest of us laugh our arses off. It is one of the club's highest honours, passed down through the generations of Wazzas in recognition of their services to lulz".

The relative conviviality of the match thread didn't provide a whole lot to work with, so I'm gonna nominate myself for making the connection between a former admin/teammate and the robot from Lost In Space:
