Ginbey and Hough are listed at 191cm.

Going through the Coleman table:
Hogan - 196cm
Curnow - 194cm
King - 202cm
Waterman - 192cm
McKay - 200cm
Cameron - 196cm
Larkey - 198cm (useless sack of crap but tall)

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to build around The Boy and Hough, philosophically, but at the end of the day you need proper KPD size at your disposal too to make sure you don’t get burned.

Plug in Harry Edwards in the medium term and try to uncover another true KPD sized player for when Gov finished up.
191cm is nowhwere near tall enough. You've missed players like

Daniher - 200cm+
JUH 197cm
Treacy, Amartey, Amiss, McDonald, Riccardi, McLean, Cadman 195cm+
Hipwod 200cm+
Sam Darcyy 208cm!
Max King 200cm+

You need to have key backs that are 195cm+ and long armed.

Ginbey is a bit T-Rexy for me.

Anyway we can get trac without selling our draft hand?

Trac is really a leader we need to Sheppard the youth with training standards and such. He brings good culture.

Make it happen bigfooty.

How about

Oscar Allen/Jake Waterman + Salary cap relief for Clayton

For

Trac?
For 3 reasons I know of, we won't..

1. Hawks are in discussion with his management
2. We don't have the draft capital
3. This injury will change him as a player. The hard edge will be lost. Take it to the bank he won't be the type of player you know.

3 months ago I was in the “priority pick” thread saying we completely missed a beat by jumping at shadows and re-signing TB beyond free agency.

He would have given us pick 3 in 2022, the fact we now have to settle for pick 11-13 + sweeteners is a reflection on our list management.

It has very little to do with FA. We had the exact same opportunity North did.

Roos played their hand well with Mackay, we fumbled the bag - multiple times- with TB.
This time last year our key defensive stocks were looking significantly weaker. Edwards, jamieson, McGovern have all shown way more than this year than predicted. Much easier to let him go now.

4. We aren't ready to be adding elite talent that is 28 years old. That would only lift us up to mid table before we are ready where we'd be stuck in purgatory unable to add young elite talent.

Reckon it'll be Hawks 1st, F1 and one of DGB/Serong for Barrass and our F2

Our list management can say we got 2 1sts and a promising young replacement. They can say they gave up a mid teens pick, a minor pick swap and a guy they were delisting anyway
DGB is not part of it. He will get delisted. We don't want him.

Hawks 1st and pies first is what it's gonna take. We don't need to be in the business of steak knifes and sweeteners. If they want him, they cough up.

Bolton is a very good midfielder but as Richmond has had not one forward available Bolton has been put up front. He was our best onballer prior and is an absolute gun. Looks like we’ve lost him but all the talk has been FREO.
And Freo do make more sense. Perfect fit for them as the player they need and they have some nice picks. They might be reluctant to pull the trigger incase Warner is there next year for them.

Agreed, absolute jet forward or midfield. If I’m the Eagles and Freo don’t he it done I wouldn’t rule it out. Add a player like that and only 26 next season, you’d be crazy not to. (As long as they get some decent picks for TB and maybe Ryan)

Luke Ryan is 188cm, btw.

One of the better 'key' defenders in the league.

Also, Waterman's dominated some very tall defenders this year.

Height is definitely an advantage but if you are simply much better than your opponent, it ultimately doesn't matter.

2025 RFA
Tom De Koning
Andrew Brayshaw
Luke Davies-Uniacke
Cam Rayner
James Worpel
Oscar Allen
Ed Richards
Charlie Ballard
Noah Balta

That’s according to Fox Footy, as of 31 July. Would love to get Ballard in the door somehow.

Footywire has a few more names added, but their contract stuff is hit and miss. I think they just apply the 8+ years of service criteria, not the top 25% of salary part. E.g Petch and Waterman (contract signed 2023 in a hospital bed) would be nowhere near our top 25% of earners.

Balta would make a lot of sense (depending how next year plays out)

How are Hawthorn getting pies first off Fremantle?

They have pies R2 pick, not their R1

Exceptions prove the rule.

Having said that Luke Ryan is not their preferred key defender. Alex Pearce (201cm) and Josh Draper (197cm) are their key defenders when fit. Luke Ryan is a third tall who at this best zone's off and intercepts. They don't want him playing as a key defender one-on-one if they can avoid it.

Ryan is a intercepting 3rd tall not a KP who defends 200cm forwards.

He has that luxury now when Pearce and Draper are in.

For the last few years, he's played on KPFs in a role similar to McGovern.

Any Barass deal should be

Hawks first rounder this year, and:
  • their second rounder this year; or
  • their first rounder next year and we send something back (3rd rounder)
We hold the whip hand, exciting times ahead.
Harry Edwards gets his chance after a long apprenticeship, Bazzo as back up, draft a kid, she’s apples👍

Like last year? When Pearce, Hamling and Brennan Cox played 47 games between them?

Or the year before, when Hamiling, Cox, Logue and Pearce played 65 games between them?

What about 2021, when the four named above played 39 games between them?

On the Hawks board they’re talking about a mid teens pick and DGB back for Barrass??
Ofcourse they are, that's how bigfooty works.

They'll package up a giant turd and think that's enough to get the deal done. Conversely, we'll suggest the deal doesn't get done unless it's this years first, Weddle and F1.

Not a chance we get 2 x 1sts for TB from the Hawks (might be different if they were going for a last hurrah at a Premiership).

Suspect this years 1st and next years 2nd rounder.
