If as rumoured the Tigers are keen on getting 2 top 3 picks, and they offered us pick 6+something to get it done, assuming FOS, Draper and Smith arent there at 6 do we just take TT?
I would but thats just me.
If we are downgrading pick 13 for Baker which is the movement atm. We aren't touching pick 3.

We all need to move on from pick 3 splitting fantasy unless some rumour arise of us splitting 3.

Spent today in the car listening to trade radio/SEN and melting hard at the concept of trading pick 13 for Baker with no mention of anything coming back as if he was genuinely worth 13. Saying that pick slides back to 16 because of Ashcroft, Lombard and Kako is a nonsense

Came to the eventual realisation that the same people spouting pick 13 are the same ones who up until last night/this morning were totally clueless as to who our next coach was going to be

So as frustrating as it will be listening to muppets who have no idea what we’re planning, I’m saving the melts until if/when they’re actually required once the trades are done

In short, don’t get sucked in to noise from those who don’t know but like to pretend they do
No no....melt now for my entertainment.

No where near enough bed-wetting over the possibility of us making a play for Bolton with pick 3. Lift.

What would the Suns give for our F1? It is likely to be a top 4 pick and the points for the top 6 have not changed that much.

More importantly, the drop off in 2025 drops off significantly.

I am assuming we get the Hawks 13 and F1 as part of the Tom deal. Not worrying about the noise with the complete deal with Tom.

So what would our F1 get? Could we go for 12 and 20? Mindful that 20 will be 22 post Battle and Perryman FA compo.
Is 12+20 too much unders for our F1? That could be pick 2 worst case(Richmond locks for the spoon), best case is still a top 5/6 pick. Should we ask for a F2 or even a fringe player back as well? its still a huge points boost for GC next year and would sort of replace the one we likely have to give up for TB.
Id like to push for pick 6 but thats probably gone unfortunately
Watching the Futures game, Suns are going to need a load of R1 picks or one very early one to take into 2025.

New draft hand is 3 12 13 22* 25* 61*
Note: * indicates pick pushed back by 2.

2 options with Baker
1. Pick 3 for Baker and 6
2. Pick 13 for Baker and 23*

Under 1, Baker plus 6, 12, 13, 22, 25, 61 - we get the left over mid in Smillie or Lalor, (not M Reid) instead of the 3rd best mid being one of FOS/Draper/Smith/Langford, 2 of the trio TT/Berry/Lindsay at 12 and 13, another mid like Hynes/Moraes/Gross or Oliver at 22 and a KPD at 25

Under 2, Baker plus 3, 12, 22, 23, 25, 61 - we get one of the best 3 mids, one of the trio in TT/Berry/Lindsay and two of Oliver or Hynes or Gross and a KPD

We then have 5 players inside the top 25.

We take into 2025 Hawks F1 and have capacity to match with points on Banfield, Walley and Evans later in the draft. Going into deficit in latter rounds is not that bad.

Suns walk away with Rioli for 6, enough points for matching Lombard, a decent R2 for Noble and a likely to be top end F1 along with their own F1 They can always use our F1 as a selling asset in 12 months if they want multiple R1 picks for matching.
Dont mind the rest, both are fine realistically

I that ever eventuated, when would we find out? The day before the trade period, assuming they are picks that need to be traded.?

Hmm that's a good point. Surely would need to be announced this week.

I disagree, we dont NEED to take one of Draper/Langford or whatever, and what we do for Baker is irrelevant. If anything getting Graham and Baker in means we should focus even more on an outside player, and TT at pick 6/7 fits the bill as well as any of the other guys in the top 10.

Its almost all speculation here, thats half the fun of the trade period. Id rather come up with scenarios and possibilities than whinge about Baker costing too much all day

Can we stop with the fantasy of Baker being a mid? Has he ever been a full time mid at richmond???

He's 27 years old your not teaching an old dog in Baker new tricks in how to be a full time mid. You rather put Duggan in mid.

As for Graham well he's Graham

We have a very large carrot in front of Warner but Sydney need to save us from ourselves and say off limits this year.

Get any many top 40 kids we can this draft. Hit up Warner next year.

We have to use at least 2 top 20 (one top 5) picks and hopefully one or two in the 20s.

F2 for Baker, help Richmond get better compo for the other bloke.
One of Garcia or Dev, either or both would help us.

I dont have him pegged as a mid. I have Graham as a mid and one of Dev/Garcia/whoever as a mid. Baker is a Duggan like rotation who comes in if we have players out injured

Hall is a 2nd year player, he probably starts the year in the WAFL. Theres no huge rush on him, 2nd year players generally dont get full time gigs in an AFL midfield

*Put duggan in mid

Graham + Dev does help but we aren't winning premiership if those two are our pillars. We need to draft better inside mid replacements for them
Just because we recruit them doesnt mean they are necessarily going to be part of the squad long term, and we need more than just inside mids. We need outside players even more.
Theyre good enough to fill a role for a couple of years until Reid, Hewett and Hall (or hutch?) are hopefully ready and we can attract better players with our improved ladder position and results. Or find a couple more mids with later draft picks or the 2025 picks.
Dont need exclusively top 10 picks in the midfield.

If your suggesting Dev and Graham be the inside mid. And we surround them with Tobie, Lindsay and Harley.

It's very interesting and may work.

But we are a Sid Draper type player away from it being complete. Could hewitt take that role? I wouldn't take that risk

The murmurs around Warner were he’d leave if the Swans won wasn’t it? Quietly confident that’s a next year thing and why we’re pushing for an F1 in the Barrass deal.

Have accepted the Baker deal and as long as we retain pick 3 for a top mid and get 21 back I think it’s not a disaster. It’s a deep draft and there’ll be some good options slide through in the 20’s, then have a ping at Davis/Dennis/Boxshall types later.

Im suggesting we have Harley, Yeo, Kelly, Hewett as our attacking mids, with Graham and Dev as the defensive roles. Hutch and baker as extra rotations from the best 22, and Hall starting the year in the WAFL. Theres enough there if Hall or Hutch come on enough as mids to move out Yeo and Kelly in 2025 to flanks to preserve them.

Dont need an A+ grade midfield, idk why people think this

Doesn't Baker in the back line free up Duggo for the midfield?

We are also several players from having a complete backline. No point rushing to finish the inside mids when we dont have outside runners who are more important to the side imo.

Imo should be getting the squad to a certain level with all roles filled with competent players, then look to use the better ladder position that brings to attract better players to the club via FA or trades, like Collingwood or Geelong do.

The draft this year is going to attract a premium. IF you want to sell a F1, I expect them to be discounted. There is also a risk the Suns find our F1 to be worse than expected. History may come to bear. Hello 2017/18

Yep agreed.

Like in 2010 when we won the flag with Scott/Adam Selwood, brad Ebert, masten, Koby Stevens, tom swift and Matt Priddis in our midfield
We had kerr and embley but they were the cream on top and not necessary.
Geelong 2022 and Pies 2023 are 2 great examples of sides without A+ midfields winning by having a good spread of talent all over the ground. They are the sides we should look to emulate imo

Both coincidentally beat sides who people regard as having those A+ midfields in those grand finals, Swans and Lions
