Hey BOND 007 or WCE_phil

Just want to understand a very simple issue

What is it with Clarke and his fixation on Baker.

The current AFL media and entourage seem to be on the ban wagon that Baker is worth the same as Barrass.

Let me recap this scenario

Baker is an out of contract, very good team player though undersized Jack of All Trades who is not elite at anything but being a decent guy who supported the Eagles as a kid and brought his mate over as a FA.

v's

Barrass has 3 years to run on a LT contract and recognised as one of the best 10 KPD in the competition with the industry realising in recent years just how valuable they are to a team

A trade of Barrass trade for a F1 and a F2 for a F3 going back is adequate but not with a great premium. This trade is not really the issue. The problem is that Clarke is so fixated on Baker that he is likely to pass on the F1 for Baker.

I am just hoping that Baker and Bolton end up at Fremantle. Whilst I would like to add Baker, Clarke’s fixation and green behind the ears approach to trades appears to be scuppering our draft position.

I am happy to take input or a clear rational reason but as it stands today, we on the outer are confused and angry.

PM me if you can arrange a link up with Matty if he is open to input

I can help explain this.
Please read the 111 pages on the Richmond board why Clarke is fixated on Baker.

Whitfield and Hodge are different players. In hindsight, you'd take Hodge at 1 nearly every time. But he was drafted as a ball winning mid. Whitfield was also drafted as a mid. In hindsight, you'd take him high. But without knowing what he'd become, he's an outsider. Don't spend top 10 picks on outsiders. if you do, you'll lose more than you win.

What pick would you be happy to use to draft a James Hird?

Toby Green?

Peter Matera?

None of them are inside players.

Would a top 10 pick be a waste on "outside" types those?

I didn’t say Clarke wouldn’t trade 3 for 6 and Baker, I said I wouldn’t trade 3 for 6 and Baker so that’s irrelevant.
I’d argue what you want is irrelevant and what was put infront of you is very fair.

If that’s your mindset - your going to be disappointed either way by COB Wednesday.

Whats your definition of late?

Because there should be 3 bids before 14. Which makes it 17
We also have 26 - early second. Done.

We have never owned pick 14, so we've never had the opportunity to trade it.

Media attributed pick 14 to WCE as part of the Barrass trade because it's what Hawks had. Hawks don't have it anymore. Barrass is also worth much more than 17.

Media assumed that we would have pick 14, and considered that was close enough to what Baker's worth to give Richmond a monster first round draft hand.

WCE have never wanted to do anything with pick 14
