After tomorrow Richmond could (and probably will) have 1, 6, 10, 14, 18, 20, 23, 24

Now they'll probably package up picks to move up but you think with all Clarke's "goodwill" there might be a chance to trade back in somewhere there
Richmond are rebuilding all wrong...got to trade out your picks and bring in 27/28 year olds. Not trade them out to get picks.

The only scenario I consider acceptable for Tom Barrass is their two future firsts and our second in return.

Anything less is a dead set failure and for all the talk of managers being annoyed the Hawks only needed to take notice of Pykes interview today.

He essentially confirmed a deal will get done and that it will be fair for both clubs.

He’s publicly stating we’re not bringing Tom back and we will not force him to. Pyke and Clarke will be desperate to be able to waive some picks in front of our supporters tomorrow and proclaim

“Look everyone, we’ve got a few picks from the Hawks for next year! Everything is ok!”

He was delusional enough to think we’re getting back into the top ten of this draft after a deal is concluded. We won’t even get back into the top 20.

Hawks will push us down to the wire and we’ll accept a future first and second and they know it.

We are toothless and under no circumstances will we walk away from the trade.

I know it, you know it and Hawthorn knows it. One team has shown it’s prepared to play hardball, the other has shown it’s prepared to roll over and show its underbelly.

Any guesses who is who?

If the barrass trade goes through I would argue our 2025 floor hasn't lifted at all. We could bleed terribly in the back half if Harry doesn't hold up or gov gets injured. TB will be far more important to the structure than baker, as much as I like baker as player.

Graham and owies will not significantly change things for better or worse.

I'm supportive of trading barrass but to suggest the changes will make us materially better in 2025 requires me to squint pretty hard when looking at the picture

In the words of Tom Barrass, "if someone is selling midfield pressure I'm buying it at any price."

I hate the trade, didn't want any of these 3 players to come [at any price] but they will make a difference. As will the squad being fitter. As will a different game plan that is based more on team defence.

I hope we keep him and tell the Hawks to pound sand, but Tom Barrass going to another club ranks very low on factors likely to cost us next year. For one neither he or Gov have ever been known for their ability to stop goals from being kicked. Nor have they ever played particularly well together as a CHB/FB combination. When the team has around 2400, 2700, and 2300, points kicked against it in the last 3 seasons [where 1800 is about whats needed to be competitive] the loss of Tom is essentially meaningless. Now if we can fix team defence and get ourselves down bellow 2000 points again then maybe the difference between him and Edwards could be a factor, but neither Edwards or Bazzo are going to come on if we keep him anyway and you'd think at least one of them needs to by the time this team is contending again.

It will have nothing to do with that, a fit Allen and if Waterman continues his 2024 form will provide plenty of opportunities for the ball to come to ground. The difference will be supply from the midfield.
So you probably are correct that he doesn’t hit the scoreboard like he has recently at the blues but it won’t be to do with which key forwards he has around him.
Allen and Waterman aren't in the same class (yet or perhaps never).

Agree supply is also the issue - which makes it insane that he moved the needle in the 3 for 12 & 14 trade.

Look forward to the smooth brains and the club giving up the farm to hop back into pick 10-15 most convoluted trade period ever.

There no acceptance stage with this trade.

We are going to get F1 and F2. I mean disaster since it's not even F1 this year

Thats what id be doing.

Reid and Warner headline our midfield.
10+12+18 and our 2nd round picks round out the list
This makes complete sense. Get back into the top 20 this year, when the draft is strong. Use the F1st's from the Barrass trade to get Warner next year. Then, it's into the compromised drafts in 2026+.

Yeah spot on its just a sad day for the club and I can't see it getting better

It's actually scary now what pyke will do to try and save face. If he tries to trade out our future 1st to get back into the top 10, we may as well just give up. His pride has taken a hit today as he's used to having his ass kissed, but his ego may make him fight back - and that is truly scary for us all. I just hope this trade period ends with no more damage.
I don't think he thinks he needs to save any face. Judging by his interview with Duffield he thinks these trades are great, only a handful of people disagree with him and those people are clearly idiots and he knows better than them.

I'd prefer it to be two F1s or F off, but today showed we don't have that level of spine, so you're probably right.

Which F1 would we prefer though? Blues or Hawks? I'm tempted for Hawks, as I suspect they're highly likely to drink their own bathwater. It would be a delicious twist in this tale of it ended up as a top 4 pick next year.

I’d prefer Hawks F1 - I think both are possible to contend but Hawks more likely to regress if they can’t bottle lightning again in 2025

Sounds like we just wanted to get Baker out of the way to we could put the pressure back on the Hawks for Barrass.
If we get 2x f1s from the Hawks, itll not be an awful result

3+Barrass for 12+Baker+Owies+2x f1s isnt bad at all

We're not getting 2x future 1sts for Barrass.

If we did it would be with something substantial going back.

So what do we give to get Dev and Malaki? Can we go into deficit for Malaki? Will Brisbane give us Dev, and picks 34 and 49 for 26?
swap future thirds if we don't trade it to the hawks.
Now that the lions have the points for this year and the pies are left with rubbish picks we should be able to do it.

If we keep our own f1, the Swans will just demand it for Warner anyway. Use the 2 worse f1s and a future f1 or something instead, much better for us to use it

What 2nd round picks? We have only 26 this year. Obeanie1 is sending our F2 and F3 to Hawthorn in the Barrass trade.
idk any future ones too. Thats 4 picks this year anyway plus our f/s + nga kids next year anyway, thatd get us there.
Draft a KPD, a mid, and a couple of outside players this year with 10+12+18+26 and we are sorted aside from a ruckman lol

Yet Hawthorn are now good again, and here’s how the top 10 in their best and fairest were acquired:

1. Jai Newcombe - pick 2, mid-season draft
2. Dylan Moore - pick 67, national draft
3. Jarman Impey - acquired for late 2nd and 3rd round picks
4. James Worpel - pick 45, national draft
5. Blake Hardwick - pick 44, national draft
6. Connor MacDonald - pick 26, national draft
7. Karl Amon - unrestricted free agent
8. Jack Scrimshaw - acquired with a 4th round pick for a 3rd round pick
9. Jack Ginnivan - basically acquired for moving up a few spots in the 2nd round and moving up from a 4th round to a 3rd round pick
10. Massimo D’ambrosio - acquired for Essendon moving up from a 4th round to a 3rd round pick

So look at that list. Only one premium pick (Scrimshaw), and he was very heavily devalued by the time Gold Coast traded him. Otherwise it’s a stack of mid-season and rookie draftees and late round picks, and astute trades.

Point being that hoarding high draft picks is far from the only way to build a good side up from the ashes.
Top ten picks for teams that have won the last 2 premierships

2024
Cam Rayner pick 1
Will Ashcroft pick 4
Callum Ah Chee pick 8
Joe Daniher pick 10
Hugh McCluggage pick 3

2023
Nick Daicos pick 4
Steele Sidebottom pick 10
Scott Pendlebury pick 5
Jordan De Goey pick 5
Darcy Moore pick 9
Will Hoskin Elliott pick 4

If I added the rest of their first round selections I’d be typing all night.

Oh and in comparison we currently have 2.

Harley Reid pick 1
Reuben Ginbey pick 9

You may be able to be competitive putting together a team of scraps but the cream always rises to the top

Owies is better than any one of our current small forwards.

Wouldn't be surprised if he played in place of Ryan and Brockman... And maybe Cripps(age)
Cripps No.
Ryan No.
Brockman. Yes.

Dewar and Long are young and with enough upside to make the discussion pointless as they're not statistically far off Owies.

I would say a big part of the reason for this that they want to try and protect McQualter by bringing in some experience, even if that is in the form of middle aged B graders. And maybe McQualter asked for that or it was a condition of his taking the job. The problem is they tried to do it all in one draft and they overpaid for it rather than looking for much cheaper options.

I just like to stick my neck out with some seriously rogue opinions. Opinions such as ‘if you get delisted from a bottom three club, and worst midfield in the league, even before they appoint a coach such is the confidence that nobody will want you…you’re not a great footballer’.

I’m wild like that. Live dangerously. Renegade.

Yeo, Reid, Kelly, Hewett, Ginbey, Duggan, Baker, Graham. Worst midfield in the league. Tbf I think that is a bit of a rogue opinion.

Consistently say we're the shittest team going around who are an age away from playing finals again, but your favourite pastime is potting fellow posters for being "melters'' when 90% of the time they are just engaging in a bit of banter and venting at the club for the lols. Say you don't follow the draft but follow the draft thread to so you can tell everyone who is following and thinks the club is signalling that its about to make some very bad moves that they are all wrong and the clubs actually never lost a draft. How did that work out?

Been an interesting 24 hours for you.

main word here being ASTUTE trades. they haven't gone out and sold the farm and then when that blew up the team gone out and done it again.

i actually like baker and think owies can offer something, but 2 months ago if you told me both would be on our list right now, i would've thought we probably shipped out some 3rd and 4th round picks. not bloody pick 3.

Hawks will smell blood.

We will get 2x 2nd rounders or something because of "commitments"

What a rabble we have become. Laughing stock of the AFL

Pyke needs to commit to sitting on his fist
We'll try to save face and push the Hawks. Probability a deal doesn't get done has gone up exponentially.
