Offloading a player so you dont pay them 800k to play WAFL is the definition of dumping a salary.
North are chasing Darling, not the other way around. If it weren't for North, Darling would remain on our list next year.

I really don't understand this rationale. If Sydney win the premiership, surely he will want to load up and go again with a team that will be within a window of contention for a number of years to come.

He is being underpaid / relative to his market value at Sydney and ( the mail is he wants to return to Perth and Sydney are aware of this ).

So having already won a premiership medal, he would only be moving Club on a much more lucrative contract.

Conversely if Sydney refuse to trade him at seasons end knowing they have a 800K+ vakue player on the list for 400K.
So that good incentive to keep him.

The dilemma for Sydney is, knowing that they will eventually lose him to either Fremantle or West Coast, when is the best time for them to maximise their opportunity to get best trade capital.

By way of example- Fremantle currently hold three first round picks this year, that’s a rare occurrence for a Club to hold such a bounty.

So do Sydney cash in on the two lower of Fremantle draft picks this year.

We hold pick 3 and in all likelihood hold a F1 of similar value next year, that’s another option for them.

That’s the big unknown of the just WHEN Warner gets traded back to Perth, that we don’t know, being when to Sydney seek to maximise their advantage.

I don't understand why we even need to salary dump, the salary cap is about to go up and we've shed absolute bags off of our books the last couple of years, unless they're just trying to front end as much as possible to go after some big fish over the next couple of years or something
It's not a salary dump, it's a player who's played 298 games asking to go to another club for a longer term deal, and the club doing the right thing by him. You don't get abyting back for players who have played that many games. He'll be lucky to add 20 games to his total over the next two years.

I do like the symmetry. The emergence of Darling saw premiership player Lynchy pack his bags for a couple of seasons in Melbourne, and now the emergence of Williams (with Reid waiting in the wings) sees premiership player Darling pack his bags for a couple of seasons in Melbourne.
You lie. Lynchy never moved to Melbourne to play for a team there. Did he? Am i getting old that my memory is failing me?

Pies - didn't go so well due to injuries etc.

I have always thought Allen looks athletic enough to play his best footy at CHF, a tall in the square with Waterman in his natural role.

Agree with this and there is also nothing to suggest that Maric couldn’t play the high half forward role.

I would go so far as to say we look so much more potent a forward line when Waterman plays FF rather than Allen.

Waterman’s game suffers when he isn’t playing as a genuine full forward, where as Allan is very serviceable as a CHF.

Would you personally take him over Tobie? I know slightly different players but if both were there at 13?

Wouldn’t matter either would be good.

The Barrass pick ( I know an assumption),
will be an excellent pick that will land us either of the fore mentioned or Berry.

All great options for the Club. 👍

No wonder i memory holed it. Looking at the stats it looks like we sold them a bit of a dud. good work

He left as a free agent so we didn’t really sell them anything. We only got a late pick as compensation.

We did use that pick on future premiership midfielder Mark Hutchings, so it worked out alright for us.

What is Tauru’s best or most likely position in the AFL?

From the limited highlights I’ve seen, he looks like a young Jack Hutchinson (I mean this in the most positive way possible) in his versatility, athleticism and “AFL traits”. Just not sure where he will settle.

A mystery tall with 'versatility'?

Welcome to West Coast, Alix.

He reminds me of an 18 year old TB.

He's a real clunk marker who flies for marks with great courage. 193cm, still quite raw and doesn't turn 18 until late November iirc.

I'd see him as a KPD with Archer and Jack Williams our long term KFs, but he can pinch hit forward too

I reckon Archer should be moved back alongside Maric and Hedwards. His set shot kicking seems dodgy but he has excellent agility and clean hands off the deck, which would make him useful in repelling attacks. Perhaps his field kicking is better than his goal kicking too?

No way it's a salary dump, we'll struggle to meet the TPP floor as it is you'd think
We'll be overpaying some guys now for sure
The list spot is more important to us as we regenerate the list

Where does Tauru land in the draft and if he’s there at pick 13 do we take him? He’s certainly had a very good second half to the year. Certainly has some AFL traits that will be grabbing the attention of clubs
I'd be looking at him with a 2nd round pick, both him and Mraz look pretty good. IMO we need mids and wings first.
