Pyke strong in his speech (as expected from an CEO in front of a crowd) about bringing in talent via FA, Draft and trade. They made it a mandate and that’s what we will do.

Tell ya what, i'm a bit bummed with Norfs shit pick coming back our way for Darling. I get it's about Salary, but still.

Pick 40 was a bit too delish and probably a pipe dream.

Pick 58 seemed like a reasonable finishing point.

But pick 64 is a bit of trash.

Some might think melting about sliding 6 places on a 4th round pick is over the top. If it is, consider me Miles Davis.

Is the melt moot because that pick will be eaten up by Champion anyway? Whether it's 58 or 64?

64 is fine if it'll get Champion. If it won't, we'll have to ask for more. I don't know where Champion is projected to go but 59 + 64 is equivalent to pick 46 as far as Champion goes.

Hard to predict but probably around then (46) and these picks might come in a little once bids get matched with later picks and teams pass (not sure how much of that will happen this year)

Lawson Humphries went at 63 but I think that pick was 76 pre draft starting.

Was hoping they'd airdrop some players in by airdrop tbh, but I suppose draft, trade and FA will do.

Considering how short bris and essondon are on picks I'd guess our 59 could be 45.

SSP - DGB after he finally gets delisted and hawks nuffies stop thinking he's going to be part of the Barrass trade 🤦‍♂️

Leave one list spot open for that ^

I do hope we take the rookie list serioulsly and use properly by taking the punt on some raw project players with upside. Rather than just demoting someone we've had for too long but don't want to cut from the list properly.

2019 - Treacy, Mitch Oneil, B.Ah Chee (again), H.Brayshaw (again)
2020 - Trew and Venables (again)
2021 - Pass
2022 - Trew (again) and Winder (again)
2023 - Rawlinson

I think the MSD has changed the importance of the rookie draft a bit. Maric/Culley/Hutchinson over the past 3 years are all players we wouldn't have had eyes on 6M earlier in the rookie draft that year but are still on our list.

Pick 59 is 158 points so would cover anything from pick 45 onwards

Pick 59 + 64 combined is 259 points which would cover a bid from 39 onwards

In short, we don’t want a bid on Champion before 39 and ideally it comes after 45 so we keep 64 to use

Or if there’s no bid before 59 we can take a live pick knowing we’ve got 64 for Champion

Brief explainer for a draft noob like myself please.

Why do we get the discount? Isn’t NGA just the rights to match a bid? If we’re getting the discount here, when does anyone ever pay full points price?

Mainly old rules still for this year so all Northern Academy, F/S and NGA players can match the bid anywhere and they all get a 20% discount

It will all change, just waiting for Aunty Laura to announce the 2025 rules

It’s expected to be less picks holding value, a lower discount and it should be requiring a pick within a decent range so clubs cannot stack up picks 50 to 72 and match a bid at pick 1

If he slips through we can take him as a Cat B rookie though?

Yeah if undrafted in the main draft we can automatically add him to the Cat B Rookie list prior to to rookie draft. Only 2 spots on there though so not sure if both Dewar and Livingstone are still on listed as Cat B

Would have to move either Livingstone or Dewar off the Cat B list onto the rookie list for that to happen like we did with Baker last year
