So are we grabbing that Maric kid?

193cm seems a bit on the short side (....yes I know Jack Darlings height)
He has a rocket kick and great hands . I would be more inclined to play him in defence as a designated kicker like Sicily.

193cms seems a good high for a non key defender

So update from the Trades board.

Top 10 pick needed for out of contract Brockman.

Anyone?

Do we have any bids? Anything!

Crickets............hears laughing in the distance.

Hawks fans are so one eyed
Yeah but didnt you want to trade petch for brockman?
I think youve also packed brockmans bags and decided that because he's having twins he'll definitely be coming home so we'll get him for cheap
He's an improving player thats getting a regular seniors gig at the hawks while without our injury woes petch would hardly be getting a look in

Depends on how the champs go and which players perform or don’t perform

Splitting pick 1 for 4 and 5 +/- steak knives has merit though.
4+5 and Taylor
1 + 36 maybe (then we need another inside 40 for CL)

Interesting to note that Derksens bio has changed a bit on GWS website.
Now a mid/forward...Was Key Forward the last time a checked.

Its interesting that under his profile pic it says he's 194cm
Then in his bio under that the write up says he's 197cm

I'd personally lob it in front of GWS for 4 and 5, with maybe something small going back their way
Not against splitting it but 4 and 5 would be laughable if the Reid hype is real. We got 8 and 12 for pick 2 last year and North got 2,3 and a Port F1 (projected as another top 10 pick) for pick 1 and JHF.. in a draft with no clear choice at either of those picks.

It’s a buyers market, I wouldn’t be lobbing it in front of anyone. Our list needs more than Reid so the multiple picks probably appeal to us more, but we should be going into the draft with the full intention of picking Reid unless someone is willing to blow their load.

Whaaa???

Sheezel and Wardlaw were clear to everyone (who follow the draft) as two of the best 3 kids in last year’s draft.

The issue for North was that they had recently drafted a lot high end inside mids and had quite a few quality half forwards.

Must be a stuff up...He looks taller than 194cm for mine.

* could be a handy cherry on top

Because we'd probably get a third-rounder at best... and the reality is that with our recruiting track record, a mediocre Petrucelle is still better than anyone we are likely to pick up in the third round.

I think the guy is a spud, but we have an entire potato farm to deal with... he's a long way down the list, IMHO.

Better than someone else who cant provide what? What does he actually provide? Goals? Limited. Defensive pressure? No. Ball winning ability? No.

Try and move him or flick him otherwise he becomes another one of the line of rotham, nelson, waterman, williams, oneill cloggers who hang around like a bad smell because oh we have him now, its to hard to find someone else brigade.

So reading as far as the blurry bit before the paywall kicks in, we met with Maric for the second time today

Bad smell - that is cruel, harsh, unnecessary!

Any intel on Jai Culley getting a contact extension?

All info has him only contracted to 2023
Bit of a worry for me.
Showed enough to warrant an extension. I thought he was maybe trying to put a few good games together to get a better offer but now he's LTI that's not going to happen.
Hopefully it's all just negotiations but the time being chewed up in a vacuum of deafening silence is of concern.

AFL Mid-Season Draft 2023: West Coast Eagles meet with Ryan Maric as he looks to earn spot on a list

Mitchell Woodcock

The West Australian

Ryan Maric bases his game around Geelong superstar Jeremy Cameron and Melbourne dead-eye Bayley Fritsch – and he could be in a West Coast guernsey as soon as this weekend.

The Gippsland Power forward met with Eagles recruiters for the second time on Monday as they mull over who to take with pick No.1 in the mid-season draft on Wednesday.

Maric, 18, is the favourite to have his name read out first after a blistering start to the season for the Power and two impressive VFL games for Box Hill Hawks, where he has kicked four goals.

Coming to a club under so much pressure like the one-win Eagles might be daunting for some, but Maric said he would thrive on the opportunity just to get on an AFL list.

Ryan Maric kicked two majors for the Box Hill Hawks.

EAGLES’ PROSPECT?

West Coast’s injury crisis has exposed their depth players to the big time and too many have proved they aren’t up to the task.

“I feel like I’ve always been a pretty adventurous person and I’m always up for a challenge so I reckon I’d thrive over there,” Maric told The West Australian.

“I’m happy to go anywhere, just to get on a list is my dream so if that means moving interstate I reckon that’d be awesome.

AFL Match Centre

“It’d be unreal (to be at West Coast). They have 100,000 members. All teams go through these patches and they can turn around pretty quickly, we’ve seen it with the likes of the Collingwoods, the Melbournes.”

Despite being the favourite to be the first picked, Maric said the Eagles were playing their cards close to their chests as to whether he’d be their man.

“The times we’ve chatted it’s been pretty good, I thought the conversations were good,” he said.

“They don’t want to give too much away, I think they have a list management meeting tonight and then just a wait and see.”

Should they select him he could find himself playing in the blue and yellow this weekend – either at AFL level against Collingwood or in the WAFL against Swan Districts.

When asked if he thought he’s ready to step straight into the forward line alongside Oscar Allen and Jake Waterman, Maric said he was more concerned about earning the respect of his teammates.

“It’s tough to say (if I’m ready). That’s up to the coaches and what they think of me and what they expect,” he said.

“I just want to come in and prove myself straight away on the training track.

“You’ve got to earn the respect of your teammate first on the training track and then go from there.”

At 193cm and 84kg, Maric has drawn the interest of 10 clubs including both the Eagles and Fremantle because of his potential.

“I model my game off the likes of Bayley Fritsch type who is that crafty half forward and is very good around goals, but also like a Jeremy Cameron who can get higher up the ground and play in the middle of the ground and have an impact from there,” Maric said.

“And then some of the attributes of (Taylor) Tex Walker – just watching him kick, he’s always been a pretty natural kick. It’s just poetry in motion watching him and that’s my weapon.”

The way that interview reads suggests to me that he’s our man.

Great attitude about moving over, knows some of our players already and is really determined to succeed.

Not really as clear as the gap Reid has created. There was suggestions that we were considering Ginbey at pick 2 if we couldn’t split it, and Cadman went first because it was GWS with the pick instead of North, which suggests that it was entirely team preference dependent on who was going where.

This year it won’t matter who has the pick, they’re taking Reid, so that comes at a premium imo. Adelaide’s offer for JHF in his draft year would be comparable. Pick 4, F1 (Pick 4), and Melbournes F1 (18) and North turned that down. That’s the sort of realm we’re in. We don’t have to trade and a deal like that should only get us to the table.
