So:
Sell Barrass
Id take anything top 10, with extras would be nice.

Get McGovern jr cheap. A stopgap player yes, but covers us defensively and will be an upgrade on Rotham/Foley and can play fwd too.

Deven, our pick in the 50's should do it.
Georgiades #1 PSD

Id inquire about T. Rivers, would be a nice fit and cost us pick #36🤞

Hit the draft hard while also bringing in players with proven performances and genuine upside.

Rivers just signed a decent extension. So sounds happy at Dees.

Pick 38 for Pick 39 and Mitch Georgiades seems fair to me if not overs
Why do that when he can come for free? Doesn't make sense to miss out on a draftee around that pick if we don't need to.

It's not like there's a lot of 'good faith' between WCE and Port in regards to trading, considering their poaching of our players over the years.

WCE owe Port nothing.

Good point. I wouldn’t be leaving if I was in TBs position though. Done very well for himself.

He has done well and he will, no matter where he plays.

Does living and playing in Sydney interesthim and his partner? Even if its a 3 to 4 year plan? Some people may find that attractive, especially when you are young.

Or do they live their entire lives in Perth?

People do move for careers and then move back home later.

I took from the tradies podcast that this could be our offseason:

Out: Pick 1 to GWS, T. Barrass to Sydney
In: Picks 5,6 (current), Himmelberg Compo and Pick 7 (current) from Swans
Preseason draft: MMcgovern

So draft would be 5,6,7 and Himmelberg Compo (expect 1st round?), 19 and 37

That's getting young quick... too quick?
Barras is worth more than 7 and himmelberg compo.

Anyone but me would like to see us add Jeremy Sharp from GC?

Id rather bulk out our list this way then trying to split all our picks.

Yeah I’d be happy getting a Dev/Georgiades/Sharp with a late pic/psd to bulk out the list but would still want at least 5 ND picks.

Wouldn’t mind a scenario where we use our first 3 picks on best available and then the 2 NGA players. Then with what’s left we get a combination of Dev/ Georgiades / Sharp through trade and psd.
Freo were into Sharp last year though so May out trade for him.
That’s 7 maybe 8 new players

I have a top 2, then a group of 5, then a group of 7-10, then a group of 15 or so, then a group of 40.

That's my draft board at the moment. So to me You have Reid and Walter, then a drop off which includes mckercher, caddy, duursma, curtin and watson, then a group of 7-10 with a few who could drop to the lower group and 1-2 who could join the above group of 5 and then of that group of 15 there are a couple that could reach as high as the top 5 but are most likely depending on club preference 17-35 then draftable talent depending on club preference all the way out to pick 75.

So in this draft it depends on how many picks in each tier. If you could turn 22,26 and 35 into pick 7 I would do it. If you could turn it into pick 12 then I wouldn't.

So as it stands I would prefer 22,26 and 35 over say pick 9. (say GC pick) 1,7,19,22,26,35 would leave me ecstatic. Even if it means reaching a touch on 35 to secure a specific player who could between just before 40 meaning we couldn't match.

I thought the mantra leading up to last year's draft was all about how this year's draft was some kinda superdraft.

If so, then your picks of 1,7,19,22,26,35 should give us 6 bodies capable of playing AFL football. Take it....we need as many in this year as possible.

Gems from the Port board.

Cmon. FFS.

I did a good ol’ google this afternoon.
Both Perthies. Nadia Rosa’s stepdad is Heath Ledgers’ dad. She’s loaded through her stepdad by the look.

She’s one of these new age influencers / designer types. You know the ones.

Maybe Sydney would suit them?

Is it just me or was there a little bit of Bayley Fritsch about Maric. Composure??

Not all picks are equal. What would you prefer to hold.

Picks 15, 21, 34 & 72
or
Picks 6, 48 & 53.

Picks 15 and 21 aren't getting you pick 6 in a trade. Add in pick 34, and you're still unlikely to persuade the other team to give up pick 6.

Look at what a contracted Lachie Neale cost us, picks 6, 19 & 55 for Neale & pick 30.

What you're asking for is a similar to what Neale cost.

I haven't asked for any thing.

What I did infer was that your estimate that Barrass was worth pick 6 ......no more no less....was unders.

So do you still stand by that ?

I am not getting into a wanky debate with you as to "Not all picks are equal "as thats just the sort of retort that gets you a "well dur " response.

I was merely pointing out that other trades, that have gone down recently, would suggest that a contracted Barrass ( four year contract ) for pick 6 alone, would see us short changed when compared with other trades.

If Neale had a 4 year deal with Freo you would have been giving up 3 top 20 picks as a minimum

Contract = worth more
We wouldn't have paid that, if Freo asked for more, we would have waited the extra year and got him as a restricted free agent.

Similar to Dunkley, Bulldogs asked for 2 first round picks, we asked for their second rounder back. They said no, so we traded our first rounder to GWS for their second round pick & future second round pick. We then traded that future second round pick and pick 46 to Gold Coast for picks 25, 36 & 56.

That p!ssed the Dogs off big time, and they kept asking for 2 first round picks, and we kept replying we don't have two first round picks (anymore).

Yes Barrass is contracted, and that gives you more power, but Sydney is unlikely to overpay for a 28 year old defender. Sydney most likely walks away from any deal that costs them what they consider too much.

Show me a recent comparable deal, for a key defender that involves a top 10 pick.

I pointed out that the Dunkley trade wasn't comparable. Yes he was contracted, but there was no top 10 pick involved, and the picks that were involved are unlikely to get you a trade in to the top 10.

Unless any such trade discussions involve a Brisbane player, I'm trying to offer a neutral perspective in such discussions, as I don't have any biases towards either team.

Wasn't Steven May a high end pick when he went to Melbourne?

Unless Sydney is bumping his pay by an extra $200k per, it's not even close to an attractive financial decision. If he wants a shot at another premiership, Sydney might be an option, but so to would the Suns, Port, maybe Adelaide and 3 or 4 Vic teams.
