I don't understand your logic.

If North lose every game (including to us) and we jag a win in one extra game somewhere (on top of beating North) then North get the spoon and Pick 1.

We play Carlton, Essendon and Footscray away. All 3 clubs are jostling for a finals spot and aren’t likely to drop a game to us especially since our road form has been awful. It would be a major upset if we beat any of that trio

Other than North our home games are Freo and Adelaide. Given both sides will potentially be out of final’s contention by then there’s a chance we could catch one of them on an off day. It’d be a reversal of form for us though

We’re no guarantee to beat North either although we should be winning that one at home

So post carnival, the Suns big 3 are all shaping as 1st rounders and some astute draft watchers have Walter at 1 or 2, Ethan Read ranging from 4 to 10 and Jake Rogers ranging at the 10 to 12 area. Based these going at 2, 7 and 10, the Suns will need 4,445 points. Last count was they had 4,191 points so with minimal selling of top end, they have their points well and truly covered. I cannot see them trying to trade up to take a pick before Walter and they also have some decent talent coming through the following year so moving some points forward will probably be in line with their usual practice.

In terms of other prospects,

1. Hawks F/S of Will McCabe is being seen as a late first early second prospect. Hawks likely to draft at 3 and use 31 and 50 for McCabe or sell off for more points. They could be buying the Suns late picks cheap as they are likely to have the list spots to justify.

2. Dggies F/S of Jordan Croft is seen as a late first rounder. It could be tough and go they get to use the the Lions R1 prior to a bid. Therefore I expect them to possibly try and trade up and could be ideal for the Suns pick 6. They have picks 35, 67, 68 and 71 as well.

3. Sydney are usually pretty good at hiding players but Caiden Cleary is rising up the board and may even be an early R2 pick. Swans currently hold 5, 22, 24, 42 and 43. If Cleary rises to early R2, the Swans will be very keen to offload 22 and 24. I am thinking 22, 24, and 42 would go close to buying the Suns pick. 4 and 6 could get them O'Sullivan and Barrass (assuming he wants to go). Tom to play now and for the next 4 years and Connor understudying Tom and ready to play in 2 to 3 years time.

4. GWS best prospect is Harvey Thomas but he is seen as a late R2 or early R3. Apart from the 2 x R1, GWS have 46 and 58 so should have points covered.

5. Lions have picks 30, 49, 54 and 61. No FS or NGA prospects this year but they will be after Ashcroft Mark II in 2024. Any selling this year for picks next year makes sense and they could also look to bundle up their current 1,271 points for a late first rounder.
Don't Melbourne have a father son kid who was in the Vic Metro team?

You don't rate GWS's academy key forward?

Being able to pre-list without giving up picks is equivalent to a priority pick of around 7 or 8 which is where I think Sanders will go.

It would also enable them to shape their draft. One of the big benefits of knowing what you are going to get in is that you can prioritise who you pick earlier.

Example. With Sanders already in the bag, Norf's recruitment strategy should be to ignore midfield (the 2024 draft is packed with pointy end top mids so they get that again next year) and focus on other needs.

Examples

1.Overlook McKercher at 2 as the second best available talent and slide back 3 to 4 spots to pick up whoever is left of Curtin, Caddy, Duursma or Watson which are all positions of need and the cost to slide would be significant
2. Take Curtain at 2 as their future CHB.
3. Take Watson at 2 as the small forward they really need.
4. Would Melbourne trade pick 4 and Grundy for 2? Goldstein is retiring and the Grundy experiment looks like a failure. A salary dump for Dees. There might need to be something else to balance the trade.
5. Get involved in a mega trade that gives a club pick 1. They are then the key to unlock
6. Would 2, 17 (Port's pick) and 37 get pick 1 for Harley?
7. Keep 2 and trade for Suns pick 6 They have future R2, pick 17 and 39. Some balancing out needed therefore getting Sanders, Watson at 2 and O'Sullivan at 6.

I actually think giving heavier than expected priority to North in the form of pick 3 for McKay and NGA access to Sanders on the condition they trade 2 and 3 to West Coast is a pretty decent way for the AFL to fast track the the recovery of two lists that are absolute basket cases.

Realistically North should, from a needs basis, walk away with Curtin and Sanders but North will North and end up with McKercher/Sanders while Eagles walk away with Reid/Curtin.
If McKay contract is only $600-$700k I can't see how the AFL can justify band 1 compo. And don't think it will fly combining a priority pick-type upgrade in with the FA compo

Hearing on tradies once dimma is at Gold Coast fair chance that pick 6 of Gold Coast will be going to Richmond for picks to look after them to match what they need and dusty on a improved contract

Actually spoke to Dimma today in all places on a ferry from Split to Hvar.
Very guarded about his future

I’d rather go after the Suns pick ourselves and keep pick 1. Should be able to at least get our foot in the door by agreeing not to bid on Walter at 1.
This ^ if we can get the suns 1st , Sydney's first or MacDonald and keep pick 1 and 19 we should be set for 5his draft. That would be 4 top 20 picks .

Been trying to work out how to get the Suns 1st.

Only way is offering this years 19 and a f2nd, also likely 19.

Not sure Id do that as that 1st pick in the 2nd round is a valuable pick......x 2.

If you get a chance korcula and mjet were pretty cool.

We were moored in hvar one night and all these hooligans tried to storm our boat. Took one of our deckhands waving a gaff around to get them all to piss off.

That’s what North should do.

But all the talk I’ve seen from North ITK’s, is that they’ll still take McKercher.

I agree with Nizzy in that we should not be asking for a PP.

1. We don't deserve it. Flag 5 years ago. Injuries have exacerbated our sitch. We're a big successful club who is likely to bounce back.
2. It's the natural cycle of the draft. It's how it's meant to be. We're spectacularly bad, but let's just wait and see how long it goes for.
3. Pride. I'd happily take a spoon. Sometimes you have to handle the bottom of your cycle with humility. But taking a handout? It's not really what we're about.
4. High ground. When it comes time to vote to kick those povo tin rattlers out of the comp, we don't have a valid point if we too have taking charity.

I'm confident we can come out of this, but we still have 2 more seasons of pain.
