It's pretty simplistic to suggest they were the exact players we gave up.

2019 - Pick 16 - Georgiades De Koning and Roberston were in that mix
2019 - Pick 27 - Maginess, Jones, Comben
2019 - Pick 38 - Warner

2020 Draft - Pick 18 - Holmes, O'Driscoll
True but so is cherry picking the better players.

2020 pick18 and the next 4 were Holmes, Macrea Bowry Laurie

Don't really get that. Surely we're just telegraphing that it would have to be something decent.

He's our best player but we're getting like 5 games a year our of him, he's nearly 30 and we've shown for years now that we can't get him on the park.
Yeah I'd offload him if theres a decent offer. His body is never going to be 100% again.

Essendon has pick 28.

They wouldnt use pick 9 but may get 10 as a fa compo for Parish.

Yeo plus 21 for pick 10? Tempting.

A F2nd?

On Yeo, there are a lot of things off-field that he probably still does when he is not playing that makes it valuable to keep him around.
Teaching the kids coming through even when not on the field is a help.
Would I prefer he be on the ground for 24 rounds, sure. I'm not pushing him out the door though, not unless something bloody good comes back in.

Pyke as our next CEO potentially… not sure the guy somewhat responsible for that Adelaide training camp would be the best for a CEO position, but who knows.
They commissioned a group to run that camp. Kind of like when you go do trust and team building exercises with work.
To be blunt it wasn't a big deal that a couple of Adelaide players were cry babies until a year later when the media got their teeth into a "story".
Pike has great experience✅ and is a former player ✅

Eh, he was still the head coach and played a role in it.

I don’t mind Pyke, but it seems like a big step to appoint him as our CEO.

Yeah the stuff Eddie Betts was subjected to was pretty gross mate.

I would absolutely entertain offers. My mans can't even last a game without getting a month+ long injury. Can't wait to see him play another 10 games next year.

His last four seasons 10 games, 12 games, 5 games, 10 games this year...WOOF

People make mistakes, and learn from them
Pyke didnt run the camp, it was Burton's idea and Pyke's mistake was to allow it to happen
He lost his job over it ultimately, but it shouldnt define him IMO - though i acknowledge the hurt to some ppl that camp caused

I would as well, but at the same time if all you’re getting offered for him is a 3rd rounder, I’d rather just keep him. If we could say trade our 2nd (21) and Yeo for someone’s top 12 pick, then I’d be interested, I think that’s probably the only way we could get a worthwhile deal for him.

A 7 million dollar deal over 7 years doesn’t mean he gets paid a million in 2024.

We have a tight cap in 2023, things change quickly. We also have a few long term deals all coming to an end.
Not to mention an expected cap increase of 700k next year with the CBA negotiations which creates wriggle room for next year and from 2025 we will have millions in un allocated cap space.

With the profile of our list we will struggle to meet the salary cap floor of 95% in 2026, let along being worried about a tight cap.
FFS, if we put a 7 year $7M deal in front of a 26 year.old ruck then this club is more.cooked than I thought.
Again I ask, where is this info coming from? I'd hope for.all our sakes this is bullshit because that is proper 🔥 the joint down territory.

Of interest to us :

So not a serious injury it appears

So interest there or perhaps just people making a lazy assumption

North just s**t me

Surely they don’t get to pre-list Sanders if they wind up with pick 1 and also a bullshit FA compensation pick at 2?

Hopefully it’s not just us but the rest of the competition lobbying the AFL hard to not give Norf too much.

Let’s say this situation plays out guys:

Pick 2 for Naughton and pick 10

We then trade pick 10 and 19 for pick 4 (Suns), we then draft McKercher or Curtin at that pick

What would you guys think about that? Still walking away with one of the guys we would’ve drafted at 2 anyways + solving a major issue of who’s going to partner Oscar for the next 5+ years.

I’m aware the Dogs probably don’t accept that offer anyway, but fun to think about. We should be in Naughtons ear at least.
I don't want Naughton. He can't kick for goal to save himself.

We don't need an OA partner yet. How bout we just focus on how to defend ball movement, win possession and then keep the ball in our half.

I would much rather chase Logan McDonald or van rooan or Jed Walter in 5 yrs when we are primed for finals footy and can afford to give away draft picks.

Bowey has hardly missed a game since debuting in 2021, including pushing our new best HBF out of their flag side. Laurie was pretty impressive on the weekend. Just because they’re not superstars yet doesn’t mean we didn’t miss anything

Would be very different to Nic Nat days.
That's because English emphasizes many of the tertiary attributes of ruckmen very well, whilst being decent (but not great) at the many attributes that are absolute priority for rucks. As an example, compare the two years (both have played 22 games for their respective seasons):
Ruck Contests - 1299 (Naitanui 2021) v 1751 (Tim English 2023) = English +452 ruck contests
Hitouts
- 687 (Naitanui 2021) v 694 (Tim English 2023) = English +7 total HOs
Hitouts-to-Advantage
- 270 (Naitanui 2021) v 233 (Tim English 2023) = Naitanui +37 HOs-to-advantage
Hitouts Win Percentage
- 52.9% (Naitanui 2021) v 39.6% (Tim English 2023) = Naitanui +13.3% HO win percentage
Hitouts-to-Advantage Percentage
- 39.3% (Naitanui 2021) v 33.6% (Tim English 2023) = Naitanui +5.7% HOs-to-advantage percentage
Clearances
- 158 (Naitanui 2021) v 71 (Tim English 2023) = Naitanui +87 clearances
Score Launches
- 87 (Naitanui 2021) v 70 (Tim English 2023) = Naitanui +17 score launches
Contested Possessions
- 273 (Naitanui 2021) v 201 (Tim English 2023) = Naitanui +72 contested possessions
Clangers
- 56 (Naitanui 2021) v 74 (Tim English 2023) = English +18 clangers
Inside 50s
- 77 (Naitanui 2021) v 72 (Tim English 2023) = Naitanui +5 i50s
Goals
- 3 (Naitanui 2021) v 14 (Tim English 2023) = English +11 goals
Contested Marks
- 21 (Naitanui 2021) v 27 (Tim English 2023) = English +6 contested marks

Tim English is the universal choice for AA ruckman this year.
However, when compared to Naitanui's 2021 (when uninformed people argue he shouldn't have been named) English is trounced in a number of critical stats (Hitouts Win Percentage, HOs-to-advantage, clearances, score launches, contested possessions, hardball gets, less clangers). Whereas Naitanui is edged out by English in only a couple of stats (total clearances, contested marks which people argue was a weakness of Naitanui post-knee(s) op) and really only beaten in one category (goals). But the disparity is substantial.

I don't blame English per se, he is using the attributes he has to best advantage.
But I do not like the type of ruck style he best emulates. IMO a ruckman who excels at being a link man (or even an intercept marker) is worth a substantial amount less than a precision tap ruckman who also doubles as a clearance beast.

What’s word on Collard haven’t heard much later in season?

Will we take him if outside 30?

We can match any bid outside 40 and we definitely will, worry is he has a fair bit of interest apparently, a chance to go in the 20-35 region as it stands.

Cheers!

Yeah sorry that’s what I meant. Do we think he will go before our chance to bid?

Seems to be slipping in a few mocks!

I assume this is one of our "Academy" kids, and that's the advantage we get of helping (however minutely) of developing them - being able to match bids after crossing pick 40? And meanwhile other academies (NSW & QLD) can pick/match their academy players at any point in the draft?

Seriously **** the AFL hey.
