It doesn't help that there aren't as many potential WA draftees coming through.
Thats because the recruiters are more interested in watching basketball and trying to get athletes to convert over to AFL then actually trying to get people who want to play AFL to play AFL

Subiaco recruiters watch more basketball then football basically. The recruiters in the WAFL need to lift their game and stop crying about a lack of money etc

The drop off in WAFL quality since Tim Kelly days is astronomical.

Zac Clarke/Hamish Brayshaw are basically the 2 best players in the league nowadays.

The CEOs and co are more interested in crying about the Eagles then they are in improving the playing lists and training standards. The lack of quality in the WAFL is one reason id like to ditch the WAFL altogether and move our reserves elsewhere
Easy, more $$$ and equalise things properly. There's players out there, problem is that everyone leaves to play elsewhere

Easy

Generate your own revenue and stop complaining

If you cant make your own money, then die and let something thats sustainable take your place

TBH that's really not quite fair. The WAFL get absolutely stuff all from the WAFC and really should be getting a larger dividend of the WAFC earnings.

If the WAFL clubs got even close to what is fair the clubs would be able to have a higher salary cap and afford to pay players enough so that most of the guys who are talented enough for WAFL seniors play in the WAFL rather than drifting out of the system and playing amateurs in other leagues for more money.

That would also further incentivise junior development and talent pathways leading to stonger and better junior development. So much talent just goes to waste.

Mids to play mid. Maric to get games when anyone needs a rest, its a wet day and wanna shorten the team up and can get 1 massive pre-season in him
Hewett is someone we expect to be a full-time mid who would benefit from starting his career/resting on the HFF. He's got good goal sense and drift into the middle. Young kids need to develop their overall game.

The standard of WAFL football needs to be addressed urgently.

Anyone else reckon Flynn would actually be a very good pickup?
Precisely what we need.

Loss of draft capital is zero.
He's in the Goldie Locks age profile.
He's not good enough to limit opportunities to others.

You get what you give as they say. WAFL give absolutely stuff all and receive the same back in return. If WAFL want more money then they need to try to generate more revenue. So often they leave revenue on the table for arrogant reasons so its very easy for the WAFC to turn them away

If you are failing to retrieve the maximum revenue, dont expect a handout. For example if I work 3 days a week as a car salesman and sell less cars then everyone, I dont go into work and ask for 5 days a week pay and the same bonuses of everyone else just because I want it. You gotta do the work

WAFL dont do the work so dont get the money

A good example of how lazy the WAFL is. A few years ago I tried to rent out the Subiaco Club HQs for a event. It was like they were doing me a favour. They didnt want to help in anyway. It was more or less a "Heres the keys, the chairs are in the corner, we dont have tables so bring your own". I just walked away and went elsewhere

Ive never seen a function room with a bar provide zero food for example (not even SMiths Chips) and refuse to help in any way to provide food (no storage, nothing)

It was very obvious to me they didnt want me there and any efforts were token and designed to fail

Who says he is up forward to take a mark? He is up forward to ruck so Flynn can drop off behind the ball. Its something Demons wanted to do with Gawn/Grundy but failed because Gawn simply became the number 1 forward option and was targetted big time. Williams wont have that same issue.

Too many talls in the side = less run.

That was the Dees problem with the Grundy/Gawn strategy.

Has Baz actually ever had a sustained run as a KPF to see whether he can do it? Just starting to get a bit of swagger into his game and I reckon his athletic profile might make him a difficult match up and his conversion might improve after not running around all game getting smashed into.

Don't know why but I think the club will toy with the idea of Maric going behind the ball at some point.

I can't really see the point of grabbing a player who has shown he is strong in one position and trying to develop them in another.

Does he go back to WAFL if he can't find form?

Idea Darling isnt in it is silly. Played with one arm, one leg and for the bottom side of the ladder and still outperformed that turd Van Rooyen who everyone seems to love. I want to see Maric get 1 full year in the WAFL. Needs to build his tank. I also cant see Ryan getting through a full season either. His injuries are alot more severe then we are realising. Id go with

Ryan, Darling, Cripps
BW, Allen, Long

Mids to play mid. Maric to get games when anyone needs a rest, its a wet day and wanna shorten the team up and can get 1 massive pre-season in him
Maric has to play as often as possible. We can't resign the future of the club in the Magoo's for has been senior players just BC the coach still has a hard on for them. They should be picked on form. With a full preseason and minimised injury we can make tough decisions on players who have a bad run of form.

I think with tall forwards, 1 strong pre-season is better then rushing the process. In 2025, he will be best 22 100% and in a better spot if we simply let him build in training

If the WAFL wasn't responsible for the talent pathway and junior development in this state, it would be entirely irrelevant.

I'd take the responsibility of junior development away from them entirely.

To be fair, when the club is in the position it's in, that's exactly the time to focus on development. You can question whether development will be better performing in the WAFL or being thrown into the fire of the AFL, but it's not necessarily the same for every player.

Possibly a catch 22 of not knowing how to provide such a service and not having the money to hire someone qualified.

Still, not that hard to have a third party on board who can provide those things. Probably decided it was too much hassle for them, despite leaving money on the table.

A bit of both id say.

Almost too late now as well because since then a few more options exist in that area to rent out that were not available before

Yep, prime opportunity to be the first major player for providing function spaces in the area and now it's too late because the investment to compete with the others would now be too significant due to ignoring the revenue stream to begin with.

Absolutely he goes back to the WAFL if he can't find form. We should give him a decent look at the role, as he is evidence of someone who does take a bit of time to grow into the side and feel like he belongs.

If he can't find form in the first 6-8 weeks then he should be going back to the WAFL to work on his craft. That should be the case for anyone on our list.

I won't be judging him purely on goals scored, however. His role internally will look much different than that. I'll be judging the forwards as a unit and hopefully we kick some winning scores as a team and have a much more competitive percentage than 2023.
