Most forwards in the AFL would wipe the floor with him. Curtin would have 10 kicked on him every week. Imagine Oscar Allen playing on Curtin. He'd have a field day.

Tall key defenders take time unlike quick small defenders like Sheezel.
If they put Curtin half back flank his pace would be a major issue with quick forwards running off him.

2025 at the very minimum. Be nuts to play him as a key back being that raw next season.
Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I think you’re being harsh on Curtin.
He’s hardly played with this group in the last few months and was always going to take a quarter or so to find his feet.

His Role at Afl level shouldn’t be to play on the likes of Oscar Allen straight up it should be as the 3rd or 4th defender taking the likes of a Maric, Waterman types if you want to use the Eagles players as match ups.

He played at a consistent level at WAFL league and is certainly a good young prospect. Uses the ball very well both by foot and hand and makes generally very good decisions.

Isn’t overly fast but is a little like a Mundy in traffic where he seems to be able to find space. Once he builds an AFL body and core strength he should be a quality player.

Waterman

Jake Waterman has agreed to a two-year deal to remain at West Coast just a day after deciding to test the trade market.

The West Australian can reveal Waterman received a revised deal on Sunday afternoon, just 24 hours after rejecting what his camp was told would be a final offer.

Waterman is set to sign on until the end of 2025 with a trigger for a third year on a deal of about $400,000 a season plus incentives.

On Saturday, Waterman had decided to open discussions with other clubs including cross-town rivals Fremantle as well as Essendon, Hawthorn and Adelaide after negotiations broke down.

Waterman had always hoped to stay at the Eagles where he has kicked 79 goals in 84 games since being drafted in 2016, but was prepared to depart and look for more opportunities when he received an offer this week.

The Dockers had shown interest in Waterman over the past few years, but they would have struggled to get the Claremont product in given their tight playing list.

It is believed Fremantle coach Justin Longmuir and forwards Jaymie Graham are big fans of Waterman from their time as assistant coaches at the Eagles.

Essendon chief executive Craig Vozzo has a close connection with Waterman when he helped recruit the forward and oversaw his last deal at the Eagles when he was West Coast’s football boss.

The Crows are in need of another forward after Shane McAdam requested a trade to Melbourne, while Hawthorn are looking to replace Jacob Koschitzke who wants to head to Richmond.

Waterman had a promising start to 2023 when he kicked a career-high four goals against Greater Western Sydney, a feat he repeated in round five against Geelong.

His season ended when he was sent home before the Eagles’ 122-point thumping at the hands of Adelaide in round 13 when he spent more than a week in hospital after being diagnosed with inflammatory bowel disease ulcerative colitis.

It comes as Jake’s brother Alec faces a decision of whether to play at the Eagles’ WAFL side and retain his job at the club or return to Claremont.

The West Australian understands the former Essendon player was told he would have to play for West Coast’s reserves if he was to continue working in their community department.

Sandover medallist Hamish Brayshaw and West Perth Sam Rotham are set to be told the same thing as the Eagles implement the new policy.

Curtin runs like he’s stuck in mud and his disposal today has genuinely been appalling, he’s finding the footy but doing nothing with it.

He will not be a midfielder at AFL level, his versatility has been grossly overrated.

He’ll be a nice offensive engine from CHB though.

Reminds me of Sheed when playing in the middle.

Best thing his done is take a good contested grab near defence. Definitely a good key position prospect.

Midfielder I'm not seeing it either.
Key backs take time. Will be interesting to see if Kangas play him as a half back flanker next season and how he will go in the AFL system in that role. It's a big step up from WAFL level.

I don't mean to sound harsh on the kid and not saying he won't come good. I'm just not seeing it in the short term at AFL level is all. His still risky in that regard.

It will probably be a good thing for us because in three years time when he develops a lot more assuming he will struggle at first at AFL level as a backman. We could get him as a trade back home for a lot cheaper. Just in time for him to have the ability to impact. Time will tell.

His not a midfielder though.

Right, so you're one of those types.

moderate

adjective

/ˈmɒd(ə)rət/
  1. average in amount, intensity, quality, or degree.

We've been in the AFL for 36 years. There are 18 teams. That means a moderate amount of premierships is around the 2 mark.

We've won 4.

Shut up.
Pretty harsh response. Not sure what type I am that you are are implying but quoting dictionary and telling people to shut up certainly starts to paint a profile of yourself.

The ultimatum of employees playing for the Beagles is actually an exceptionally prudent call by the club.

It will effectively allow us to recruit 'community engagement employees' who happen to be high-end, state-level players who can fill out our WAFL team with talent outside of the main list.

My only curiosity is whether their salaries are included in the soft cap?

A lot of Vic businesses do that for the VFL/VFA clubs.

Different eyes, I think Curtin has been very impressive. So has Banfield. I read on here often that Banfield isn't AFL quality - I disagree there. As a F/S prospect, I think he's worth a late pick. He's small, but good in close and tight. ZZ is a right goer - like him.

This is my first time watching ZZ play and he definitely has a bit of tenacity to go with the physical gifts. Can see why he was talked up on here over the last few weeks.
