Feeling pretty good about our list management this year and more broadly. Witherden, Landon, Winder, Edwards and Trew for **** all is exceptional.

And I think they're all by in large the sort of players that will complement our list well. We already have the spine sorted and a lot of A-grade midfielders, these are the links that will fill in our 22 over the next few years.

Jones has shown a bit and of course, Willie to come back, DV maybe - with natural improvement from Ryan, Duggan, Allen, Cole, Rotham, Waterman, Williams, Ellis - dare I say Brander and I can't see us bottoming out for a long time.

Pretty good summary.

Interesting thing about WC's rookie selection. Talented player who copped a swipe from his u18 coach (quite correctly mind you). Reckon he might have a point to prove

Unfortunately in his interview, I got the impression that he was trying to hold himself back saying what he exactly thought. He kinda sooked about it :p

But is a young kid. As hurn said “it’s not about words, it’s about actions”.

Don't think we have our 4th next year either.

Especially our academy players, enough of a swipe to get them past pick 21!
We do have a fourth.
1st
2 x 2nds
3rd
4th

It's going to be fun tracking the crop next year and our academy players with the draft hand we have.

Dunkley didn't want to go to Sydney though, he wanted to stay in Victoria so Swans respected his wishes.

Shane Tuck might be a better example of a famous father son who wasn't wanted by the old man's club. If Edwards can have a career as good we've done well.
Isn't that Draft tampering

From the Herald Sun

WEST COAST
52. LUKE EDWARDS 187cm, 78kg, Mid/def Glenelg
57. ISIAH WINDER 180cm, 79kg, Mid Peel Thunder
ROOKIE DRAFT: Zane Trew, Daniel Venables

The recruiter: Luke Edwards, son of dual premiership Crow Tyson, looked one of the better players in the country at 16. His game has stalled a bit, but he’s going to a great program and they’ll probably rejig him. Edwards had some great games for South Australia at halfback last year, against the likes of Elijah Hollands, and was an elite performer at under-15s and 16s. At pick 52 they’ve got a bit of a bargain if they can realign him, so I think it was a really smart pick up. They also took Isiah Winder out of Bunbury, a really talented Indigenous boy with nice foot skills. He needs to lift his workrate and running, but he’s got some X-factor and played some WAFL footy for Peel. A few coaches at the AFL academy really liked what they saw from him. The Tim Kelly trade really kept them out of this draft, but they have loaded up with three picks in the top 40 next year.

Sydney showed very little interest in Dunkley. His old man has a strained relationship with the Swans to the point that he didn't even attend his own HOF induction at the club (or some similar event recognising his contribution to Sydney).

Nah, he simply declined to be father-son nominated. Which is his right.

Sydney did nominate him and he accepted it.

Deal was that if a non-Victorian club bid on him they would match it so it would increase his chances of staying in Victoria or at least going to a designated spot if he had to leave the state. Bulldogs bid on him, Sydney didn't match it.

Funny reading crap about how well Collingwood did in the draft.

Collingwood use:
Their 2020 Draft picks
The picks they received for the trades of Treloar, Phillips, Bosenavulagi and Stephens
Their Future 2021 - lost their 1st, 2nd and 4th round picks and got back Doggies 2nd and Crows 3rd so they will go into 2021 with 1 R2 and 2 R3 picks

Pies got
17. Oliver Henry (Geelong Falcons) - great pick
19. Finlay Macrae (Oakleigh Chargers) - I rate him their best get
23. Reef McInnes (Oakleigh Chargers) - always going to get the NGA, got him cheap
30. Caleb Poulter (Woodville-West Torrens) - really like this pick and about right place
31. Liam McMahon (Northern Knights) - swooped early but I back Hine on this one
44. Beau McCreery (South Adelaide)
Rookies: Jack Ginnivan (Bendigo Pioneers), Isaac Chugg (Launceston) - Ginnivan is their Trew slider

I have a healthy respect for Derek Hine and he again proved very good. So great picks.

But lets face facts, they severely hurt their list, dented the trust of the players and sold away the top end next year.

That said, they have resolved their salary cap issues - in the future we might look back and say well done as I believe this will continue to be a negative on all clubs.

In isolation - let's all give the Pies an A+ for the draft

In list management, I am probably still giving them a C-.

Anyone know how serious Trew's neck injury is/was

Yep, great job by recruitment - we appear to have addressed the depth problem and as you say the missing pieces required for coming years.
It will be a crying shame if we can't snag another Cup before NN and JK retire - we're right in a window or golden period to do this, let alone create that much used term..."a dynasty" (whoa, slow your roll there buddy?)
But 2021 is the prime time, we're good to go, locked and loaded. The covid thing should be less of a thing compared to 2019 and the game has returned to it's normal format. We just have to beat the top teams away and have a newly tweaked game plan? Easy...

It's not so much that Collingwood nailed their picks as such, the reason they had a good draft night is that they were able to retain both 1st round picks as nobody placed a bid on McInnes until pick 23.

Magpies had their 2021 1st rounder at the ready (due to be traded down anyway due to F/S Daicos next year) as currency to make a trade in the case of an early bid - as soon as the bid for McInnes came in they traded it out. The later than expected bid gave them two free swings at the draft that they were obviously more than happy to take.

In the end that 2021 1st rounder was turned into x2 2nd rounders (30, 31) + x1 3rd (44) + x2 2021 3rd rounders (points for Daicos) - not bad work.

I'm actually happy for them. The pasting that Ned Guy took - and one of the worst interviews ever given - was ugly to watch. Glad they got some redemption.

Ah ok, didn't realise that happened.

ESPN rating. Doesn't mention Trew, but I think adding him gives us a + in front of the A.

The below summary is from someone who has watched these guys play plenty and understands them more than other so called experts (Fox footy etc). This was my sentiment straight after the draft.

Players drafted: Luke Edwards, Isiah Winder

Grade: A

Rationale: West Coast took advantage of Adelaide not nominating Luke Edwards as a father-son. A capable accumulator and ball winner, the ball use of Edwards off half-back has been a strength and he has also shown the capability to push up through the midfield. The bargain that earns West Coast a positive grade is the selection of Isiah Winder. Winder is an athletic utility with good speed. He comes this with strong hands overhead, one-touch ground level skills and excellent composure and placement of kicks out in front of inside-50m targets to lead onto. Expect Winder to start his career as a forward before looking to push further afield.

Having one of these lads go onto play +100 games for us would be a massive win. I haven’t read or paid attention this year to the draft but by reading their profiles, all three seem exciting.
