NicNat let it slip that English was on our radar ( sure Freo would be too ) but difficult with money , picks , contract etc but 2023 could be the go .
Yeah well you need to make a decision, do you go hard for English in the next year or 2. Or do you wait and hold out hope Jackson wants to come back

Pick 49 going back does not make pick 23 "equivalent of pick 35 anyway". That only applies if you're counting points towards bidding.

Generally, 1st round picks (outside the top 10) are reserved for players that excel at their position but aren't necessarily stars/All Australians (Adam Saad).
2nd round picks are for that next tier, a solid best 22 player who plays every week and will carve out a 150 game career, but not likely to be any better than that (a Tom Cole type).

Rotham falls somewhere in between those two valuations. Probably a 2nd round pick value right now, but with his age and attributes, likely to get to that Adam Saad level. Rotham is 100% worth pick 23.

To us, yes he is.

To Adelaide, when they would know he is leaving (if he does) not because he hates the club but because we can't afford to offer him a reasonable contract? Possibly not.

I think most here would be livid if we part with 29 for SPS (even 35 will have most shaking their heads) - but they are the same age (born 6 days apart), and both were mostly in their team this year but dropped also (albeit Rotham played 19 games compared to 14/12(s)). SPS definitely has more runs on the board than Rotham (Rotham's 2021 was better though) - but most will want to pay #49 for him...

put a line through Jackson - he is to be a big name in a big city, no looking back for him.
English I have my doubts as well. Not moving and probably dont want him here

TBF, the rumours about Rotham leaving because we can't afford to offer him more money have come from pretty much one poster.

The club has also been pretty clear on Branders status.

Seems as if Brander isn't highly rated but not sure about Rotham.
Asterisk the Gaul has also suggested it’s no certainty Rotham would be on our list next year and he was basing that on information from someone connected to the club.

Will dovetail nicely with Gawn retiring and Jackson being the man

Melbourne won't let Jackson go easily

All this chatter regarding going for England as a trade target, that would be a pass from me.

Yes he is tall and athletic but IMO he is a average Key Forward and and a bog average ruckman.
From what I have seen of him thus far he seems shy of physical contact and I just get the feeling that he will never impose himself at the contest.

He would cost a kings ransom in the way of draft capital that I am not convinced would be value for money.

Rather go after a player that a bit of a toiler who gives a physical contest who both gets paid a hell of a lot less and won’t break the bank by way of draft capital.

Big Pass on English IMO.

So dare I say it, the ruck version of Brander :grimacing:

Rotham's trajectory is ascending. He's been groomed in one position and allowed to develop there. He is part of the backline bulls program.

SPS is genuine boom or bust. Played in different positions, form falling off a cliff over past two seasons, ex-Blues employee now speaking out about his training and recovery standards. His value is rock bottom, much like Branders. That's a more fair comparison to SPS for mine.

Rotham's development is polar opposite to Brander's, purely because Brander was surplus to needs but too good/too much invested to leave him parked in the twos.

Speaking of Ruckmen to persue in the future.

WOW 😮 Just how impressive was young Broadbent in the WA v SA game on the weekend.
Far out - this kid has some talent.
Reckon he will feature prominently in the 2022 draft ruck stocks.

The Kid thinks like a midfielder and his link up work was incredible.

One to monitor closely for next years draft .

The only thing with English is he's had bugger all good rucks to learn from (apart from Martin this year who's been injured half the time anyway) so he may improve working with Naitanui.

But the reality of it is he's probably just an outside mid who grew too tall and won't make it as a ruck or KPP.

So if it ends up being pick 35 for SPS would we be happy.

I could live with it.

He definitely has scope to improve and he has been not managed well by Carlton. SOS ‘s comments are telling too as he believes Carlton has played him out of position, said he thought him a mid that can also play forward, but he has been played as a HBF.

Put it this way if I was a West Coast forward I would be salivating at the prospects of being on the end of SPS’s ball delivery ...... kid hits targets.

In all likelihood SPS would be more of a sure thing than any young kid we would be picking up at that point the draft.

Would prefer that it be the third rounder but hey - that’s just me being greedy.

Right age profile.
Position we are short on depth wise.
Late second rounder probably a fair price.

So I am ok with picking him up.

We can find some undersized forward like Allen and use him as a ruck. I think that because this actually happened we should be aware that WCEagles management and coaching are basically incompetent. If we need another data point what about the finances for players including a back up ruck like Vardy.

EXCITING WC forward Jarrod Cameron has played his last game for the club. Cameron is contracted until the end of '22 but has told WC he doesn’t want to play for them next year. Unclear whether he's keen to continue AFL career elsewhere or step away from the game. Hit by injuries

That tells us no more than what we already knew...
