After this terrible season you would think its time to shake the complacency and predictability out of the squad (and fix a few structural issues) by trading a couple of best 22 types out. We've got about 15 of them who underperformed this year. But it looks like we are happy to back the boys in and top up with depth from Carlton.
You keep on banging on about trading out players, but still haven't answered when you're asked how're we supposed to move on contracted players.

O’Brien on trade radio
• Wants to keep the picks we have and are strong on thst
• JK on a break and they expect to do something when he gets back
• Not sure yet if they use 3 or 4 picks in the draft
• SPP only came up as a possibility this week so they haven’t really considered it. Sounds unlikely
• Still looking for a backup ruck for the short term
• No news on Brander of any significance
• Hurn also on a break so expect to have his extension tidied up when he returns
• No plans for any more activity this trade period

Glad they got him on

Doesn't sound like a whole heap of creative thinking is going on.

Alternatively we could shake the complacency and predictability out of the squad by overhauling the coaching panel and rejigging the game plan.

That’s an actual possibility. Trading players who are contracted and don’t want to be traded … that’s not.

Rohan O’Brien trade radio
Probably not much more from us in trade week
Pepper pig unlikely, only lately became aware of him being a possibility
They want Kennedy to play but up to him, think he will
Same with Hurn
Need another ruck who can ruck
Says Jamie’s on showed good signs but covid abs injuries hamper develooment
Limited interest for brander will work through trade week
Still not sure what went wrong in 2020
Depth in the draft til pick 25
Will use 3-4 picks

Unless GWS pay a substantial amount of his salary, can't seen another club going near him TBH.

By the same token, GWS might not want to pay all of Lobbs contract. I don't even know how they'd fit it in.

There may be opportunity to revise Coniglios contract, front load him a big pay day with the cap room they create (Ryan Daniels reckons 2Mn) and short him on the duration of years so he ends up on 800k/year or similar.

Take a slice out of Fyfes wallet and tell him the cavalry has arrived to give him one last push at a flag

Wut

Looking at the picks being held by Dogs and Pies, not much to help us.

Assuming the clubs take the player with their first pick and wipe out the rest, here is the lay of the land

23 Dogs - Darcy
27 Pies - Daicos

29 Eagles second pick

35 Eagles third pick
36 Pies
43 Pies
44 Dogs
45 Dogs
46 Pies
48 Pies
55 Pies
58 Pies

68 Eagles fourth pick (probably not taken)

I cannot see pick 68 coming back to pick 60 - might be worth holding to see what we get on the way out or possibly selling to Saints for use on NGA

ROB cliffs from Trade Radio

- Gee SPS has some skills. He mainly jogged laps before spending the last half hour or so on set shots - curled a few beauties from behind the boundary line at the end for a bit of fun. Hardly saw him miss a kick.
- What interested me the most was that McGovern split his time between the savouries and sweets, could be seeing a swingman role in 2022. He was his usual dominant self down back in some match simulation drills before going head-to-head with Mackenzie in a forward role.
- SPS is very fast - Cripps was in most of the drills with him and couldn't keep up.
- Hurn is pale as buggery and still doesn't really have the body shape you'd expect of an AFL player.
- There was a big bloke who pulled up next to me and I could have sworn it was Ryan Daniels, but I'm sure I was wrong...
- Sweet was the player picked to kick the goal at the end today and nailed it. Celebrations were huge.
- No sign of Ah Chee, Hutchins or Vardy. Couldn't tell you why.
- Stranandiccacacaca kicked on his right foot for 80% of the session, I reckon. Nice to see players working on their non-preferred so readily.
- Mitchell looked a class above the other midfielders bar Priddis. Just knew how to find the gatorade and wouldn't miss a target all session. Shuey was very quiet and seemed to be taking direction from Mitchell. Doesn't bode well for his captaincy credentials, maybe he doesn't want the gig?
- Duggan looked on and was hitting targets left and right. Set for a huge 2022. Already our best player
- Gymson went up against Brander in the ruck contests and I'd say that Gymson has the inside running at the moment.
- Won't say too much about it in case I was just reading too much into it, but Rioli looked as though he'd enjoyed the Christmas break a bit too much. A few of the coaches pulled him aside and they were having quite an animated conversation before Rioli was sent to pull cones for the rest of the session.
- A lot of running work again, clearly a focus even in the heat.
- Kennedy looked like he was doing a great job 'coaching' the younger forwards in between the drills. Darling in particular seemed to be following him around.

Did I miss something guys? What is that Facebook link a few people posted? More Yeo rumours lol?

I think its more of a possibility that no one wants any of these blokes who are signed onto deals because they just aren't that good. Outside of Yeo and Oscar Allen you there is no one that would command any interest . Ok Barass got a nibble but why wouldn't we explore that? what could we get?.Even Natanui is a 30 year old who plays 2/3rds of games with two bad knees.

Ryan Daniels reckons Lobbs on 700 000 a year for 2 years and would probably sign for less money for a 4 year deal.

Don't think you can revise Conigilio's contract and then trade him.

Either way, Conigilio ain't worth close to $800 000 a year.

Coniglio can't agree to be traded and strike new contract terms with Freo? Freo could offer him his current contract total with an extra year (for free) to bring the cost down a bit.

Seems in Coniglios best interests to reduce his price and get back to playing good footy without the pressure. As for his worth, he'll be Freos new pin up boy for marketing, just as Fyfe has been. Freo are still selling the future.

10,29,35 is as good a draft hand as we’ve had for the best part of a decade so we’re right to focus on the draft.

We held firm on 52 for SPS and were able to bring in a talented player, admittedly unfulfilled, at a low cost as a result

The majority of our players are signed up and unlike Freo’s players they are happy to stay so there’s no forced trades

Given everyone on this board who knows something about it seem to agree that’s there’s good players available through our first 3 picks I’m quite happy for us to be a bit player during trade week and cross my fingers we nail those 3 draft picks

It also appears clear that the club are of the opinion that, whatever it was that went wrong during 2021, a lack of actual talent wasn’t among those reasons. Change coaching staff, a better preseason to get players fit and a more harmonious environment off field look to be what they think needs to be addressed

That means he'd still be on a 6 year deal worth 5 million which is way overs.

You'd think the last thing he'd need is to be the face of marketing.
