I don't care what the intention of the midseason draft was, I like the idea that a young player that misses out on being drafted can go away, work on their deficiencies and get picked up in the middle of the year.

But I think it's a serious overreaction. You're talking about players typically that missed out on the preseason and rookie draft. In 2021, that was 100 draft places (63 in the preseason draft and 37 in the rookie draft). So recruiters didn't rate Culley in the top 100 prospects, but 6 months later he is such a gun that the AFL should consider changing the rules? Really?

It's borderline criminal what we are doing double dipping the draft like this. Eat a choad haters! Adding top end talent to a squad that is residually top eight quality is delicious. Because that is what we are doing.

The real issue is Jamieson is still realistically 3 preseasons away from being a genuine AFL ruck and is only 200cm which is getting on the very short side for rucks. Will the club persist for that long. He is genuinely a very good tap ruck, good at ground level and around the ground.

They'll persist with jamieson rather than williams youd think.
I'd actually like to see williams played exclusively at full forward for the rest of the year. Hes not going to make it as a ruck and has all the tools ( minus elite kicking) to be a handy kpf post kennedy

So just to clarify, Sebit Kuek was in our NGA up until last year? I assume the reason we didn't take a chance on him is because he's gotten exponentially just this year?

Absolute legend. Any comparisons are only because of that & hopes for draftees to be 1/2 as good.
Mundy has never gotten enough kudos over east, (see Mayne to Collingwood trade), but West Coast supporters know how great his career has been, hopefully a bit more in the tank too. Seems like a great fella as well.

That was absolutely the intention of the midseason draft when it was introduced, but as with the medical sub rule, clubs will exploit any opportunity to get ahead.

So bloke wasnt picked last draft and thereforecan't get picked until the next draft? Can someone explain the logic??? Would it not be an illegal restriction of trade/employment?

You're either eligible or your not. This is not exploitation.

It'd be a simple enough fix. Change the eligibility criteria from "was available but not selected in the Main Draft the previous year" to
Must be:

• Aged at least 21 at 1st January of the draft year, or
• Previously on an AFL list

There is probably a strong argument that this is an unreasonable restriction of trade... But anyway. AFL will always do AFL things.
