The Question: Do we ask for a pick?
No point.

We have only been in the super crap zone for 1 season, so don't get the credits in the crapbank for multiple years consideration. And arguably, there are extenuating circumstances contributing to that 1 season anyway.
If we stay in the bottom 2 for 2023 and 2024 it might be worth an ask then. But even then, it being the AFL and us, it's unlikely to happen.

The Question: Do we ask for a pick?
Definitely ask for it. Show the slippery slope we are on.
Show the AFL the drop in attendance
Paint a bleak picture

Worst case is we weaken Norf’s claim and make appear inappropriate

#strong Eagles is good for the AFL

Get Rhino to write an article calling for an NRL team in Perth, staple it to the application and we'll be rolling in picks.

Oh 100%.
Gotta play the mind games when it comes to these things.

Ask 2022, get an instant no. Maybe make it harder for AFL to says Yes to Norf if we've been just as bad and got insta-rejected.
Ask again in 2023 and they'll hesitate a bit and then say no, not yet.
If we stink it up in 2024, it becomes a lot harder to say no a 3rd time.

This is the exactly why Norf have asked for it every year. Build a case until they get a Yes.

Thoughts on loading up on this year draft to help fast track the rebuild.

Trade next year first to GWS and 38 for there pick 5 and 25. Genuinely believe we won't be bottom 2 again

Bruhn and Toronto are rumoured to be leaving so they get heaps of picks here plus already have a young team

Would leave us with 2, 5, 20, 25 and 27 along with Culley.

Could even offload 25 and 27, which is worth pick 10 on points. Maybe NM if they get a mid round priority

Being left with 2, 5, 10 & 20 is now very juicy.

What are thinking ?
2-Warlord , 5-Hewitt, 10-Keeler , 20-Jefferson or Gilbey ..

Only issue is the perceived high talent in next years draft that we would miss out on. Yes it would fast track the rebuild, but would not want to be looking back 5 years down the track and see we missed a super draft (2018 like) for some B graders.

This is an interesting proposal, because it could give us some possible insight into where the club see themselves at...If internally, they are projecting a bounce back up the ladder in 2023 then this would make perfect sense...load up on top end talent while you're at the bottom, bounce back a bit and finish mid-table but still reap some benefits from what could be an absolutely stacked draft in 2023...

Or, do they subscribe to the notion that we're cellar dwelling for at least another year and try to spread our top end picks across this draft as well as the next?

Considering we will want to be pushing games into Chesser, Culley, Bazzo, Hough, JWilliams, our first few picks next year etc etc we will be playing a younger side than we have in a long time.

We are not bottom 4 bad in my opinion if the list is reasonably fit but we will still be looking to make sacrifices to blood these kids and get them up to 50 plus AFL games ASAP.

Which means we might still be bottom four if the club decides to take some short term pain for quicker results with our youth.

If we could secure another top 5 pick for next years first then I’d say go for it.

If it gave us a chance to select any 2 of Wardlaw, Sheezel and Hewett you can take Ports second rounder as well. This would be the only scenario in which I would personally entertain trading next years first.

Warlord and hewitt would be perfect with the first
Might nab keeler with 10
And outside leaning mid with 20

Harder enough predicting this draft let alone next year draft.

Draft is always going to be a crystal ball

Imagine nabbing Wardlow and Hewitt and getting 20 games into each in 2023, along with Chesser, Hough and Culley

We still have plenty of experience if we can get health

No team is trading out pick 10 for 25 and 27.

Very true, I guess the value of a years worth of games is valuable as well.
