Bill Simmons latest podcast with Zach Lowe was a good one discussing fake trades of lottery picks and players in the off season. Love the way the NBA is structured in that players salaries are public and trading rules are clear.

If Cripps does want to come home to WA should we package a deal to get him here for 2021 while Nic is still dominating in the middle? Could pinch another flag if Cripps resumes as the clearance beast from 2019.

Anyway here's my fake trade. Gaff and Brander plus our 2021 first rounder for Cripps. Does Carlton take that deal?

I'd rather have him sooner than later if we're getting him at all. Plus I don't rate Gaffy as high as others and he's 29 next year
So you wanna trade our ONLY winger and our future for a player that's free next season?

Yeah but if Carlton match the offer, which they will, we still get the lube out of the drawer. The point is we get him before Nic drops off

What are you talking about matching offers? He’s under contract, he’s not a restricted free agent.

If you mean Carlton will accept our offer of Gaff, Brander and a 2021 first-rounder (which we can’t actually trade, because we haven’t used enough first rounders over four years), then yes of course they will. Because the deal is ridiculously in their favour.

the key word is ridiculously

Pafrick Cripps seems pretty happy at Carlton. Doesn't seem like the type to get home sickness as much as it would be awesome to get him I reckon he seems pretty loyal player. My guess is he will resign with the Blues.

Can ask the question but don't like our chances.

Wouldn't get a game in our midfield.

Rumour is cripps GF has mental health issues and wants to come back to Perth.

We couldn't afford cripps anyway.

Another 800k+ a year player ?

Also it would be nice to see how he recovers from his shoulder reco he just had

He is pretty banged up after been used at the coal face exclusively since Carlton drafted him.

With his limited pace and poor kicking i think inside mid is his only position.

To afford Cripps $ wise would mean cutting Jetta, Hutchings, Ah chee and doing some clever acounting with JK and Hurn.

Even then we wouldnt have the picks to do it.

Cripps is not leav8ng Carlton.........flogging a dead horse.

Gaff could've gone home to Melbourne to stay with his sick dad but stayed loyal to the club.
Has just triggered a 4 year extension last month and you think the club would try and trade him?

You're in laa laa land if you think the club would do that.

Let’s be real. If we could get Patty Cripps we’d all be frothing.

but yeah, we don’t have the trade currency this year to get it done. Not unless we’re offering up either Gaff or Duggan + Brander and picks or something. I dunno.
Thats overpaying something horrible. Cripps is good, injured, and not great. A good inclusion but not a match winner for us.

I don't think we should go for him due to the cost, but I think there seems to be a fair bit of underrating Cripps on here.

In what world is he merely a 'good' player?

Not many players carry clubs like he has (for a few years, no less) at such a young age.

Body is broken is the biggest issue. His disposal isnt great as well, This is secondary

Carried them where? They haven't played finals since he arrived and have had several bottom finishes.

He is excellent and elite in his position, but is a very limited player. He reminds me of our beloved Pridda, can't be beaten inside, excels in his strengths but has terrible weaknesses. Cripps is slow and can't kick (remind you of anyone).

I am also very weary of his body, he has been absolutely smashed over the last few years. Adding him into our team would seriously stuff our midfield, as it's not like we're stuck with a bunch of light framed outside runners and just need an inside bull. Not to mention the huge cost it would take in terms of trade and salary cap, which we don't even have.

It's also important to consider this from his point of view. Why would he leave Carlton where he can be the Captain, has probably been one of their highest paid players for years (who else would they pay given they need to pay 95% of salary cap) and will be set up for life through club connections.

Cripps is a hard pass for me.

Langdon is pretty good depth and i think we will score him for a 3rd rounder pretty easily and will be better than what player we pick up in a draft where its been hard to get a gauge on who is good with this covid stuff. A way better idea for a forward than Ah Chee and a good stop gap till Cameron is ready and Willies return.

Maybe these blokes haven't watched that many Carlton games. His shoulder wasn't right this year. He still went down to Geelong and dominated them. Cats scraped a 2 point win but Cripps had 24 touches, 16 contested, 12 clearances including 7 center clearances. Dangerfield next best with only 5 clearances total. All these stats with Pittonet rucking. Now imagine if he had Naitanui hitting to him. He'd lift the output of Shuey, Yeo and TK. With the way he draws the footy all 3 of them could play more on the outside. That would be as good as any center square rotation in the league.

And yes I don't care about losing Gaff off a wing. We won a flag without him. I'd like to see Duggan take his wing permanently and role through the middle. Plus we'd need to offload Gaff salary to clear cap.
