Cripps is good, no doubting that. But the cult of statistics (and fixation with contested possessions) has clearly had an impact on many people who mention him in the same breath as Martin and Dangerfield.

To afford Cripps $ wise would mean cutting Jetta, Hutchings, Ah chee and doing some clever acounting with JK and Hurn.

Even then we wouldnt have the picks to do it.

Cripps is not leav8ng Carlton.........flogging a dead horse.
That horse is alive and well. My old man sits with a lady from the Cripps family at the footy and she reckons he want's to come back at some point.

I don't think we should go for him due to the cost, but I think there seems to be a fair bit of underrating Cripps on here.

In what world is he merely a 'good' player?

Not many players carry clubs like he has (for a few years, no less) at such a young age.
Yep

If he was playing for us he would be revered.
One poster even labelled him as lazy.

We can't afford him anyway so it's a moot point.

Maybe these blokes haven't watched that many Carlton games. His shoulder wasn't right this year. He still went down to Geelong and dominated them. Cats Carlton scraped a 2 point win but Cripps had 24 touches, 16 contested, 12 clearances including 7 center clearances. Dangerfield next best with only 5 clearances total. All these stats with Pittonet rucking. Now imagine if he had Naitanui hitting to him. He'd lift the output of Shuey, Yeo and TK. With the way he draws the footy all 3 of them could play more on the outside. That would be as good as any center square rotation in the league.

And yes I don't care about losing Gaff off a wing. We won a flag without him. I'd like to see Duggan take his wing permanently and role through the middle. Plus we'd need to offload Gaff salary to clear cap.
Gaff ain't going nowhere.

Yep, not as good as Danger or Dusty but imagine him in a good side with support around him like those 2 have.

P.Cripps would end up being far too expensive for what he is worth.

Considering he can't play outside or impact up forward, in salary terms alone the club would be giving up a lot in order to effectively make itself even more one-dimensional in its composition.

The club would be better served procuring 2-3 developing B graders (particularly in terms of outside run) for a similar price and focus upon improving the bottom 6, rather than the top 6.

If Fremantle continue to explore the option of Fyfe as a forward then I think Cripps to Freo makes more sense, although Mundy would probably have to retire. Can't have all of Mundy, Cripps and Fyfe trying to play midfield at once.

I don't want Cripps, particularly this year when we have to give something up to get him

That's the way I see it too.

I thought Mundy was also spending more time up forward?

They seemed to be giving Brayshaw, Cerra and Serong midfield responsibility as the season went on

LOL!!! Guy is a gun. Doesn't play up forward because without him in the centre Carlton would never get the ball to him

We've been procuring B and C grade midfield talent for a decade now, just cut to the chase and buy A graders

I'm not sure about Mundy playing forwards, I thought he was still getting decent midfield minutes.

Agreed they've handed the keys to the kids, but someone like Cripps is perfect to plug in there and support the guys coming through. Fyfe might be a bit banged up now and still offers some good attributes playing forward if he can learn to kick goals. He'll be 30 next year and I'm sure they'd like to keep him on in some capacity for the next 3-4 years, but that might leave too much of a hole in the midfield if Mundy is on his last legs.

Cripps looks a better fit for Freo is what I'm getting at, but even then they'd have to juggle things around to make it work. He's probably not picked a great time to get home if that's his plan.

With all the talk of getting an inside mid bull makes me think we could have had Sam Powell Pepper. He has certainly improved his game.

He is working harder for sure but he’s still a bit of a butcher.

That might just be him - Daniel Chick style.

Not discounting his ability, he is very good.

However his price would be extortionate, both in terms of trade (Carlton will no doubt match in any RFA situation) and contract, inevitably pushing more depth in terms of picks and players out the door in order to accommodate him.

As for buying A graders - isn't that exactly what the club did last year with Kelly?

What we need is adequate depth to cover for when the current A graders are not available.

What do we buy A graders with mate.

We used up a fair bit last season to land Kelly.
