The astute posters on here have been saying this for a year. It was only the typical alarmists that were sprouting the "sell your future" crap.

Geelong is playing a risky game, bringing a lot in but will lose a lot of depth in return. I don't see it working as I don't think Hawkins and Cameron can be trusted in big moments.
I seem to remember North doing a similar thing a few years back. Didn’t work out so good

So what was the common denominator ??????

Are you sure the policy is working .....any second thoughts ?????????

Does this policy have a happy ending ?????????

Very impressive. Been tracking him for a while now as a long term option for the replacement of Jetta that is likely to be available for our selections.

What has surprised me is how well he has adapted to playing midfield this year - his hands remain glue at ground level and he reads play so well.

Massive upside about him, but he is still very raw and his fitness levels need to improve dramatically.

Still would be happy to pick him up as a rookie spot.
He does move a bit like a Chameleon doesn't he? :D

You forget that we could have made the deal a year earlier for just 1 x 1st rounder and kept our 2019 1st pick which we could have used to pick up Deven Robertson. Larke medallist, local boy, WC supporter.

Note that Larke medallists generally turn out to be very good players, of the 10 year, 200 game types. The last dud was probably Cale Morton in 2007.
Jack Watts likes this.
I thought someone might mention Watts. :)

Whilst he was a bit of a dud as a #1 draft pick, he still managed a creditable 174 games. If he'd been taken at pick 21 (like Oscar Allen), it would have been considered a good(ish) career.

Morton on the other hand was a pick 4 and even if he'd been taken in the 30s he would have been considered a spud. Kept getting games in a rubbish team on potential.

Hooper, who tied with Swallow in 2009, was the other obvious dud. But he was recognized as such before the draft and was lucky to be picked up at #35 in the rookie draft.

So the Hickey trade article in the West today.

Could be white noise but I like the heading. Swans pushing to convince the Eagles to trade.

I really hope we take advantage of this ruck supply v demand situation. Swans pick 22 is what we want, that can be turned into a very solid mid for the next 10 years.

Continue drafting the best available ruck / ruck forwards around late 2nd early 3rd rounds, develop them and trade them later to upgrade future picks. We seem to be pretty decent at it.

Attention Glassy!!!!!

We want this bloke

Plus pick 22

For

Tom Hickey and a third

The coach has made his decision and yep he is gone.

Its Longmuire stamping his authority straight up. Setting the bar higher and shipping out a high profile player for good reason.

Bloody Freo may be getting their sh!t together  .
:tearsofjoy:
That may be so, but they will always be in our shadows as our little sister. Wishing they were as big as us

Has anyone here actually eaten Durian? The smell puts me off but what's it taste like?
Not sure where you plucked this fruit reference from or what relevance it has on a trade thread, a sense of humour perhaps?
But there's a litany of Durian comparisons from month old sox to rotting onions.
Many westerners find it disgusting yet they eat things similarly disgusting in their own culture- Stilton, Blue Vein Cheese and a variety of other foul smelling foodstuffs. A nordic stinky fish product comes to mind.
Durian has a lingering heady aroma that is recognisable from 50 metres.
The texture is like no other, rich and creamy almost like a dairy product.
The taste is sweet and layered and addictive to many.
Having lived in Indonesia for many years, I grew to like it and enjoy eating it, if only in small amounts because it is so rich.

Is this Langdon guy what we really need or a desperate band aid measure?
Don't know much about him, a few nice tricks on the highlight reel.
Who else are we likely to target this trade (without trawling through this whole thread?)
Any mids?
Who are we likely to get from Swans?
Thank god we have Cameron in the wings and maybe JJ?

I hated this bloke at geelong and richmond but I'd do a full 180 on that if he was an eagle. Josh Caddy. With Schofield gone we need some campaigner in the team. It was supposed to be Nelson but he's pivoted away from that role for reasons. He's not getting a game, is he gettable? Thoughts?

Club is listening to players other clubs want to offload and being open minded. We have a strict salary cap at the moment so its all about how other clubs can help get player X to us as opposed to us throwing a cheque book around and grabbing someone from under another clubs nose.

I get the feeling Langdon wont be the only player in but hard to know who will be available for us to get as we are listening to offers and not making them.

I dont think he can get out of bed without doing his calf. Too injury prone

Okay, no response..
The reason I asked is that there was an interesting gathering at a western suburbs hotel this evening. Simmo, Glass, Doogs and Young. Fairly informal but Young doing a bit of "behind the hand" comments to Simmo while Doogs and Glassy were talking. Simmo bought the snacks, a bit of finger pointing and nods in agreement and generally good natured meeting. Went for a good 3 hours.
Young presents as a dickhead!
Who is Doogs? And yes Young is a duck head.

GoEaglesGoSGIO what 's your take on the Brander situation? The West reporting this morning that he is set to stay next year and try to get a position in the backline?

If he wants to stay, he stays. It was a no brainer situation. We wont be forcing him out for a ****ing 2nd rounder like people think.

How many contracted players by the way do we just trade without them wanting to move themselves? Never. Leave that shit to a club like Collingwood please

Matt Rendell seems to think WCE will be aiming for Logan McDonald from 2023 as a key forward ...not sure whoever draft's McDonald would let him go easily and the price would be high in draft picks anyway .

We're so bad , we poach players and will be in his ear the day he is drafted evidently .

OMG

We have 2 very skilful small forwards under a cloud in Venables and Rioli. Hopefully we can Cat B them with new rules and get them back in 2022.

We have had to go with just Ryan and Cripps for most of 2020. Meanwhile here is my 2020 report card on others:-
- Cameron had injuries and was not right. Hopefully he turns that around as he looks the goods and desperately needs a full preseason
- Ah Chee continued his career lack of 2nd and 3rd efforts and does not appear consistent or buying into his role (with JK Jack and Oscar - no need go for Mark of the Year)
- Petruccelle had injuries and suffered from only running one way and not high iq reading the play.
- Jones actually looked ok but we only had a small sample to judge him
- Treacy wasn’t even tried - been and gone
- Reid was given a go and not up to it
- Ainsworth (simple version) is the antithesis of a skilful, high energy, hit contests at pace, ferocious tackler, create havoc and impact the scoreboard when playing the role

So simple answer, yes Langdon fills a position of need.

Langdon is similar to the Hawks Pupolo. Nuggety small pressure forward with real pace, defensive skills and decent skills.

So to answer your question, was Pupolo and his role at Hawthorn worth the trouble? Yes it was.

Agree with everything bar Ahchee and his 2nd a 3rd efforts. One thing I noticed this seasonwas Ah chee was his improving work rate and pressure.

Zac Langdon is the player we wanted Nic Reid to be and his direct replacement. It truly is a like for like swap with Langdon being a much much better footballer.

Harry Taylor pulling the pin. 280 games, couple flags. Great career. I think he was a late starter too? 20 or 21 is I remember.

He was one of those "How did he get missed" players though when he did get picked up. Was insane he wasnt picked up as a youngster and even that 2nd good WAFL year was needed.

He trained with Fremantle at one stage and they passed on him the year before Geelong picked him up too
