Convert Essendon Members to the Dogs!!!

I've sent this text to a few Essendon friends I know.

"The Western Bulldogs would like to welcome any disgruntled Dons supporters to jump on board the Bulldogs next year, welcome aboard so an so......"

To my surprise, I had some good responses back...

"Yeah definitely keep an eye on the dogs next year"

"Once the CAS decision came down, I decide to follow the Dogs, which I always liked anyway."

Now we might not get the diehards yet with a night time friendly draw, Ethihad games, I think we can convert or pick up maybe a 1,000 Dons supporters.

So put the pressure on your Essendon mates, to get on board the Doggie train.

Worth a try but I am tipping you would only ever convert fringe supporters and not members. I look at it this way, if the same thing happened at the dogs, would I jump ship, no way. How many Fitzroy members/supporters do you know that still follow football and whilst having soft spots for other teams, simply don't align with a specific team.

Success breeds supporters. Essendon are used to being winners, would argue they don't have the thick and thin loyalty as we do (as underdogs and unsuccessful historically).

When they are barely winning a games next year there will be plenty ready to jump ship. Don't forgot a lot of Essendon supporters only jumped on board in the 1990's after the move from Windy Hill. Dogs have a great year and essendon barely win a game, I reckon we can get some. Being successful they stole so many western suburb supporters over the years, time to re-claim.

I've got a close mate who's an Essendon coterie member. Dogs are his second side (because of me).

He's close to buying a Dogs reserved seat membership so he can sit with us when work permits. Dons have let him down to the point where his heart's pretty much not in it any more (yes, he's one of the handful of realists they have at EFC...).

If he can jump, why not others?

To be perfectly honest if the Bulldogs treated the supporters and it's players with the same disdain that Essendon have I would've chosen a new team, so it's definitely worth a try.

Settle down. The comment wasn't intended to be taken seriously.

Although there's no denying some are obese and deranged this isnt necessarily a bad thing. As you say, they generate significant contributions to the club, which unlike what you say probably surpass rather than equal my own. If all our supporters were middle classed and highly educated, I think I'd be sick. Not what we stand for.
