I hate to say it but this decision I think impacts more the interstate players of Freo and West Coast. Just means they probably cant see their families during these short trips. I heard for instance Freo players now probably cant go to see the funeral of Harley Balic.

I mean we all saw what happen to Adam Cerra, state borders was also a reason why Lachie Neale was considering moving back closer to WA.

If Freo and West Coast have to give up a few home games to get the AFL season continuing, I think everyone in the league would be appreciative of what they are sacrificing. (Who knows maybe a chunk of March and a bit of April ). With no certainty of borders reopening even by April, they may be doing what the Scorchers are doing- and playing all their games in the East Coast (which would be a bad result for WA fans but you do anything to sacrifice to get the season going)
Reflecting back on it, I was bit critical last year of Adam Cerra leaving Freo. Just thought with that team they were building something. But looking at it now, I think he got the best decision for himself.

And if there happen to be an Eagle player (that was from interstate) that was here for the last 3 or so years and being impacted by the situation of covid and wanted to be close to home- I wouldnt begrudge them.

Did he? I gave up on the conference pretty quickly but I thought it was said that he wasn’t interested in making exceptions for sports?
"We made it work for 2 years, we'll do it again" type vibes

For those in favour of opening the border, what do you expect to gain (apart from the family reunions) but once those are done, what other benefits for the wider community will there be?? More toilet paper? I just can’t see how anything changes for the better. We’ve had it so good here for a long time, that the only way is down unfortunately
I am firmly of the view that we're copping deaths and rising cases at some point. I'd rather open on our terms rather than wait for an outbreak and be unprepared. Sure, wait a few weeks if you think the booster is the difference, but not giving us a date and a target is bullshit.

I think you're also underselling the ability to move around. It's not some luxury for a lot of people. These aren't holidays but people seeing family etc. A hard pill to swallow for all those triple vaccinated people who are not in high risk categories for COVID. Why should they keep waiting?

Not rubbing it in, having lived over 20 years in WA and over 20 years in Victoria I know what sport means to people, especially footy. It’s always been a huge part of our family. Hopefully we all get to games this year.

Well since the Eagles anyway…before that, meh.
Don't forget the arts. McGowan has singlehandedly decimated that industry and for many, it's just as important as sport.

Because you’re personal preference of seeing family is less important than the health of the majority, that’s just the way it is at the moment, as harsh as it sounds.
You keep banging on about the majority being at risk, they are not and never were. With 90%+ double vaccinated, or 80%+ triple vaccinated (if that's what we're doing now) there will be a tiny fraction of the population who will have serious health issues. The majority of those will be people who already had serious health issues.

Now he's killed off the skyshow with an outdoor mask mandate in the middle of summer, in a state that's got a handful of cases, that's 90% vaccinated against a disease that is overwelmingly survivable. I heard Basil this morning saying that unless they get over 200,000 they might abandon it. Mark that down as another institution lost.

Don McLean is writing a song about the day the skyworks died as we speak.

I thought the Skyworks died the year they started policing the no-alcohol policy.

I used to live on the foreshore and the attendance dropped right away after that.

A long, long time ago
I can still remember, how the fireworks used to make me smile
And if McGowan didn't pull that stunt, that I could glass some random campaigner
And maybe I'd be happy for a while

But January 20 caused hysteria, with every post on social media
Bad news from the tyrant, I couldn't post one more rant

I can't remember if MaoGowan danced, when he read about JD's loony stance
But something touched me deep inside, the day that Skyworks died

So bye-bye, Aussie Day at the river
Drove my Falcon down to Langley, but Langley was sh*te
And them good old bogans were drinkin' tonic with lime
Singin' "This'll be the day that Skyworks dies
This'll be the day that Skyworks dies"

Don't forget that they expect people to check in with QR codes while outdoors 🤣

It's a form of protest. The same as when a community riots and destroys their own community. People are frustrated and don't think they are being heard. They feel betrayed as they did "the right thing" and didnt get what was promised. Now they are not going to do "the right thing" to stick it to the man.

Meanwhile, I had my booster on Monday so am probably f’ed if they delay opening by a couple of months.

That last sentence is nonsense. You will be protected from hospitalisation and death for at least 6 months. Perhaps we could revisit this post in August?

if the AFL were to give West Coast a choice of home fixtures based somewhere on the East Coast, would West Coast choose the MCG as first choice? Their game style much suits the MCG of all grounds away from WA.

I struggle to think where else on the East Coast of Australia where the Eagles would want to be based.

The way the last few years have gone we'll try to say MCG but accidently slip up and say Carrara.
You would think: SCG , Kardinia Park and Carrara (Metricon) would be ruled out straight away.

The Eagles record on those grounds are not that good. Dont think Metricon suits the Eagles stay, as its one of the dewy grounds in the comp.

I think Adelaide Oval is another ground that suits West Coast style.

Hahahaha MCG. As if the AFL will let us choose anything that isn't Launceston, Gold Coast, or Canberra.

Eagles should have 1st choice surely if it comes to playing home games away from WA.

I dont think playing on those grounds mentioned would give the Eagles any advantage. There has to be some leniency in terms of scheduling given what West Coast may have to give up.

Probably should sue you. You really do write some absolute crap.
