2nds Crows in SANFL season 2017

Will BJ be good enough to earn a place in the SANFL side in 2017? He didn't even play reserves in 2016, or played a handful of games at best. Could he follow Doedee's path, from early 2016, not playing SANFL until the coaches determined that he was up to it? Doedee was far more advanced than BJ is, at the equivalent time, so BJ could be waiting a lot longer before making his SANFL debut.
He will play if he's physically fit enough as per Doedee

Sig will be in same boat I think needing to put on some weight and get stronger core so he doesn't get injured

As i am sure you are well aware, Ben Jarman has been playing reserves Football at North Adelaide since 2015. He also made his League debut in 2016.
As he was in the state program throughout the 2016 season he spent the middle part of the year with the State squad rather then North.

North Adelaide who featured a strong reserves and u18 side in 2016, made the decision to keep the u18 group together at seasons end and let them finish their North Adelaide journey together. This also meant that the Reserves Squad who earned them that Finals spot actually played in the Finals.

But you would have known all of this considering your sentiments above.

Jarman will play SANFL all year for his development, he is a rookie making it a long shot if he makes it, I see it as an enormopus bonus if he does, but wouldnt be making any bets on him making it, unless I got great odds, which I would need for obvious reasons

I suspect he will slot into the Eddie Betts cagey small forward role in 2-3-4 years personally...and personally I don't think he's a longshot to make it either, all he's really lacking is the physical development currently. That's my opinion and I'll stand by it until such times as I'm proven wrong by performance.

Betting odds would tell me diifferent and we all know Money talks, wouldnt mind an exotic bet on it, will get seriously good odds, and if you are confident he will make it, would give you an excellent opportunity to make some good coin.

The 11th is surprising considering the AFL play a game at Noarlunga a few hours later. Hope South road clear.
But back to the Games it mean the first 2 games 4th and 11th will be filled with Top ups As the Crows AFL play on 5th with most likely and extended squad and their last hit out on the 11th
25th and 31st would be closer to their regular team.

Apparently KG on MMM this morning said we will be playing in the VFL next year, anyone hear that? Besides not getting to see them it would be good to clear up this mess.

I haven't heard that but most of the stand alone VFL sides are struggling financially, locally the North Ballarat Roosters are really struggling even though they have a very profitable club premises with Bar, Restaurant, Pokies etc and I hear it's the same at Port Melbourne so KG could be on the money though the costs would be substantial.

I have heard the talk but so far all I have heard is from pub talk around a few beers. And more around certain supporters not wanting the AFL in the SANFL some of which are high-profile.

Part of me wants the Crows and Port to go into the VFL just so those people who have been arguing for it to happen can get a reality check and find out first hand just how bad it would be for the SANFL.

Having a third brand of Footy in SA would be diabolically bad for the SANFL. If Port and Crows VFL games are going head to head against the SANFL for interest and sponsorship dollars it's not going to bode well for the SANFL in the long term.

It will create a domino effect.

How long would 7 then persist with the SANFL telecasts before opting for the Crows and Port VFL games to be shown.

If the Crows and Port go chasing sponsorship dollars for their VFL teams to help with the increase in funds required to play in the VFL then you could argue that those sponsorship dollars may be coming to VFL to the detriment of the SANFL clubs.

Without ties to their traditional SANFL clubs holding them back, how many people would then feel far more inclined to support the Crows reserves. Suddenly for a Norwood or Sturt supporter games like Crows V Collingwood etc start to become more appealing once they're no long bound by their SANFL loyalties.

While the SANFL supporters may not like the AFL reserves teams concept I think having them in the SANFL and under strict control of the SANFL allows them to be kept in check. Sending them to the VFL will cannibalise the footy market in SA.

Its what everyone wants there wont be any complaints from anyone

Im confused on sponsorship, if you were going to sponsor anyone in the SANFL it would be Crows or Port, who in their right mind would sponsor west adelaide or South Adelaide if your goal was looking for exposure. The only sponsors of the tradditional SANFL clubs are people with links and community association to the those clubs and that will never change. Sponsorship is a bit of cream on the cake for these teams.

As for TV, its costs the SANFL $750,000 per year to get their product televised if they dont want the 750,000 then I suppose it wont be on TV, it may actually encourage more to go to the game

I thought everyone wanted this why would you even suggest it isnt a good thing

We know where the WAFL , SANFL are in terms of standard its lower than that of AFL, no one really cares if the MEDIA rate it second fourth or fifth best comp, everyone is totally aware its not even the standard that matters, look at the womens league they cant even kick and get more than the VFL get to a game, if the crows had a wheel barrow race you would get the blind followers going.

The SANFL is a local league where its more about loyality and following the standard isnt the best but people watch and you will see thousands go to Norwood oval this week to watch a far far worse standard in the Womens league, so people will go and watch maybe in reduced numbers

The clubs will have to adapt to the income streams the AFL needs state leagues if not their entire system will fall down. But thats rather irrelevant, the SANFL and SACA have signed an agreement to be landlords of the Adelaide Oval with the State Government so will generate a nice income with the AFL and Cricket Australia whom have signed on as tennants plus any other events like the Guns N Roses last week and any other events they can facilitate. And when that ends unless the AFL and Cricket Australia want to put their hand in their pocket and build a new stadium they will remain as tennants, its more likely they will purchase a ground in Sydney, Brsibane or Perth before Adelaide being such a small population. Sate government owns the ground and will want SACA and SANFL funded by it. The AFL cant affiord to run footy in SA they lost 17 Million this year and over half their clubs are striuggling financially

With the SANFL still having a major asset with some already sold and income streams coming from that they will continue to operate for years to come, but they will need to investigate how they operate long term and Im sure they will

Port won't go to the VFL unless they are kicked out of the SANFL. It costs them nothing to play in the SANFL and they get to have home games where they take the money from the gate and from food and drink sales. If they went to the VFL they wouldn't be the magpies, they would be the power, so they'd either have to kill off the magpies which would piss off a lot of their supporters or run a reserves side and the magpies which would cost them a bit.

If the AFL are creating a spot for the Crows they will also be telling the Power they are moving, remember the AFL can control Port as they have underwritten them financially

I doubt the AFL will be doing anything. If we go to the VFL it will be negotiated between the AFC and the VFL, we will have to pay them enough to make it worth their while to include us and either pay enough to cover the costs of all teams travelling to SA, or never play a home game and travel every week.

In any such move the AFL will be firmly involved if it involves state leagues, they fund these leagues and would be kept up to date on such moves, it could affect how their whole system is set up, whether they are looking at a true reserves comp that may include NSW and QLD. No club will do deals behind the back of the AFL, for one it is probably in their license agereemnet with the AFL anyway which is how AFL negotiate ceertain things with the SANFL. It probably wouldnt bother the SANFL in fact it may be a joint venture to assist with the move. They may even supply top ups who knows it would be a good pathway for those that missed the draft and have a pathway and wont be restircted by income which is the problem at present. This could be a positive out of such a proposal for all concered.

Should have been done originally nut I think it was always planned everyone knew it would take time
