Also means we keep all our draft picks leaving our 1st rounder to draft another gun mid. Unless we use our 1st rounder on Palmer?

I'd do it in a heartbeat. Palmer's kicking can be iffy at times but apart from that minor flaw he's a gun, and if we're looking for outside midfielders then he's a better option than a speculative draft pick.

Geez, add Griffen and Palmer to our squad and suddenly our 2011 midfield looks a whole lot better :thumbsu:

Hmm, Palmer, Danger, Sloane, Thommo, even Reilly these days in the same midfield. Don't know that we can afford to have that many average to poor kicks in the same midfield.

Palmer is a gun though, would happily give up a first rounder for him.

It looks better when you add Griffen to that list ;)

Haha, so no slight inkling then.....?

I believe it and it makes a lot of sense to me.

I was more surprised about what this person said, or speculated, about Moran not being around next year. It seems like we're going to have a huge list turnover come October.

FWIW, from what I've seen of Palmer this year, his kicking has either improved or it wasn't as bad as I always thought it was. Either way, with the way he plays the game it isn't a massive problem, like Scott West (champion) he doesn't have a huge reliance on kicking in his game.

Oh, its improved.

It was deadset woeful in his 1st year

Did we have a crack at picking up Jordie McKenzie in trade week last year? Tackling machine, decent skills and a fantastic workrate, we'd have to be even more keen come trade week this year with what he's been able to achieve.

I dont believe that we can continue to carry Griff, Sellar, Moran, Craig and SMACK on the same list, one or two players from this group need to be moved on.....

add the delistings and retirements it does seem like a huge turn over however this will be some what offset by the rookie list upgrades as I can see Schmidt, Jaensch and possibly Thompson joining Henderson in getting upgraded contracts

Oh man, I'd love for us to land Griffen and Palmer! That's some serious midfield prowess.

Meanwhile I'd do Sellar for Nahas in a heartbeat. I don't mind Sellar but I think he's run his race here. Nahas has had a down year after a very good first season but that happens all the time with players. He's got the pace and slippery line-breaking style of play we lack.

Yeah, Jaensch and Henderson are certainties, with Schmidt a probably. I reckon Thompson will stay on the rookie list for another year with Riley and Wright. The turnover will still be substantial but it could've been worse if we didn't have some decent rookie listed players.

And he's well capable of sticking a ****ing tackle :thumbsu:

I would upgrade Thompson otherwise we may lose him to another club as I would not be suprised to see a Melb based club offer him a senior contract

Yeah we had a crack. Offered him a spot on the senior list, but he decided to stay at Melbourne on their rookie list, and it looks to have paid off for him

Kicking needs some work, but he is a hard nut with great tackling skills

Quite frankly I don't think it'd surprise if Riley was upgraded too, he has progressed really well by the looks, run out of a bit of steam recently, but other than that, I think he's shown he's very much got a future at the highest level.

heard on the radio that rhys palmer is unhappy at fremantle and has supposedly named adelaide as a preferred destination with johnathon griffin mentioned in any potential deal
What station was this said on? I'd assume 5AA but I thought i'd just check.

it was on 5aa but also mentioned during the 6pr radio call the other week when the game was on 5aa

This isn't really how it works, I believe. We don't get a pick "in a vicinity", we get a pick that depends upon where our draft pick is taken, except if we choose to use it in 2010 or 2011 in which case it goes at the start of the second round. I don't believe the compensation pick can be traded. I'll be very surprised if we use it this year.

Sorry mate, but I'm tipping the bloke I was talking to has a bit more idea than you.

I reckon come next year Luke Thompson will be making a debut in the AFL and staying in the AFL. For the eagles he has put in several BOG performaces which would most definatley warrant a AFL call up. Very handy across half Foward / As a running half back (Might need a to get a little fitter) as well as an in and under player in the centre...very versitile very adaptable and most of all very very bright for the future.

Ya think? Don't overestimate the organizational intelligence at a football club. You're more likely to find people interested in the minutiae sitting at home on their laptop, obsessing over every detail, than you are in middle management at a football club.

Anyway - it would be more likely you misunderstood him than he got it wrong. Other than not being sure whether a compensation pick can be traded (and I believe it can) - everything else stabby said was true.

I hate these rumours. They crop up, and no matter the degree of skepticism you hold you can't help but envisage your side with these blokes in there. Your hopes rise, and then they're crushed. Highly unlikely that there's any substance to it at all.

Griffen and Palmer at Adelaide would be too good to be true.

After today's results it looks as if we'll finish 12th, which by my calculations gives us pick 12?

Not too bad but when you consider the 5th best normally gets it, then it's pretty crap compensation for a poor season.

Having said that, I'm hopeful we can hold onto it for the draft and not use it for trading.
