All we have to do against St Kilda is break their structure. They don't have any players capable of individual brilliance to win the match, it's all down to the Ross Lyon way. Similar to him at Fremantle although St Kilda's squad is clearly worse than peak Freo.

They looked pretty awful last week and have looked bad when denied their style.

If we allow them to strangle us up forward and set up from their defence we aren't much chance. So our forwards will need to complete much better than they did last week

unfortunately our strategy of pushing up to the stoppage and hacking forward or going sideways and slow to progress forwards is perfect for the way they play.

Was feeling good about this game at the start of week, not so much now
Any time PA win and we play the next day has a bad feel about it.

Anyone know how many times we have played on Mothers Day btw over the journey? Really is “exceptional” how many times we are “randomly” drawn to play Mothers Day and Easter Sunday..together with York Park, Ballarat, Hobart, Cairns, Darwin, Alice Springs….

I'm happy to play our away games at effective neutral venues like Cairns and the NT. The regional games like Ballarat and Tassie should be for VIC clubs only though. But it's the interstate sides that seem to do the heavy lifting.

A good example is Tex. last year 2nd for key forwards but with his output down this year plus his lack of providing any pressure when losing contests and giving away free kicks, his rating has dropped to 26th of key forwards. Which is a stark drop because his 2022 and some 2021 games would be included in his rating. There's always going to be flaws or outliers, but overall it seems a sound method.

Our elite mid Laird is about 50th mid in the league for AFL player ratings which factors in quality and degree of difficulty. The bloke that our coaches liked seeing dragged to a back pocket is 6th. We have very serious midfield and coaching problems.
This.
It's obvious to you, me and most posters in here.
Dawson might be a useful stop-gap down back to change momentum when the oppo gets a run on, but playing him there for most of the game is Nicks' default loss-minimisation strategy ("OK, we're gonna lose but let's not lose by 8+ goals").
It is not a winning strategy, in mindset or execution.
VB's solution, get Sloane back in there full time and keep the continuity credits going.
"VB's solution" is an oxymoron.
"Equal last with WCE for clearances" is a damning statistic.
Dead-midfield-Coach, walking.

Yep, but you didn't include the gack kick forward to 2v3 or 3v4 cos we've pushed the extra up to the stoppage.

Could even be 2v4 or 3v5 with the RTB gameplan.
