This statement is so bland. I didn’t mind a bland one on the weekend to hold the space, but they could have done so much better by now. No acknowledgement of mistakes. No details on the format of conversations. No commitment on timing.

Really disappointed in the leadership other than the coach.

I think Caro was pretty reasonable here.

So - What is the current status of our indigenous support staff at Hawthirn?

This is a f**ken priority
Brady Grey is full time.

Says a lot about the current board members, doesn’t it?

I like how Reeves is trying to act like we don't know that the club want always a safe place
Smacks of gasligting something else Rioli experienced at the club
The “b**ng” comment had been substantiated. Clearly that’s enough to say

“We KNOW it was not a culturally safe work space…”

Still makes me cringe.
I took that as him having a stab at the afl for hiring people who had no knowledge of the game and didn't really have a clue what they were doing. If you recall they were harassing supporters for simply barracking and making an awful atmosphere and making everyone uncomfortable . Even the afl had come out and said they had stuffed up there. Do you remember 2 players having a scuffle and the security guard coming onto the ground to break it up until the umpire told him to get off ? Anyway that's what I took from it, just my opinion.

JFC, how did he ascertain this?

By looking at the color of their skin??

He had no knowledge of whether they were 4th, 5th or 6th generation Aussies, but he called them “new arrivals” because of how they looked.

Do you even understand what you are typing.

It’s pretty weak. People at the top seem very happy to stick their head in the sand and hope it blows over.

It’s this sort of response that has resulted in the issues we have seen. No hope of fixing anything with our current leadership it seems.

Disagree, it sounds like Mitchell will keep pushing this. Others like Reeves maybe but it wouldn't be easy as there may not be a lot of people from that time still there. We seemed to lose a lot of backroom people at the end of the 3peat

Reeves has no idea. He either says nothing, or releases something token, and borderline insulting. All this says is that we're doing fk all. Cyril would have had a laugh.
At least he's got Sam reaching out to him saying the right things, but there needs to be more done.

Mitchell has impressed me so much so far , none more than with this .
We are in such good hands on and off field with him .

He is running rings around our board with his handling and communication of this it seems.

They should be embarrassed and thats not even a strong enough way to put it.

Mitchell looks to be doing the right things. But it needs to be a push from everyone.

I’m sure the backroom has had plenty of new people, but what has remained constant is the lack of action. Replacing people doesn’t achieve anything if the new people don’t bring about the required changes.

Reeves has been pretty poor across a number of areas when leadership is needed, really surprising tbh.

I can’t remember a ceo ever being so subtle when key issues are playing out, all he said was sweet nothings, just words to fill the room.

Also has anyone at the club followed up with Cyril what he wants to see when he wrote “While I do want that (the AFL to change in a significant way) - we need to sort this out in a real way. I need my club to be there in a real way” to Sam?

Surely someone has asked, “how can we best be there for you in a real way?”

Surely…

I've asked that several times when racism has been brought up. The response is always that I'm racist for asking.

what is the point of that statement? It does nothing except reinforce the perception (fact?) that our leaders (bar sam) don’t really want to engage on this issue. Just appalling.

Do your job Justin, that is not enough.

Clarkson & Hodge tolerated this sort of behaviour? …. Wow, I’m honestly stunned
I’m going to wait to hear their take before passing judgement, but if that article is accurate - it’s a very, very sad reflection on our club.

Would have been better putting out no statement until there was something definitive to announce. As sad as the situation is both Mitchell and O'Meara have handled it really well so far

I'm more of the thought that press releases aren't worth the paper/pixels they're written on.

Actions we take are more important.
yeah its why nobody can ever make a good 'apology' statement. if it isn't backed up with actual change/action then its all meaningless
