Well done to parade and bad luck to GE. At least big tommy patterson can now concentrate on the US open tennis. Especially given how much he likes to talk about straight sets......

There is a lot of knocking of opposition on big footy but I just wanted to congratulate Glen Eira for being so gracious after what must have been a rough day for them. Their sportsmanship was brilliant and they conducted themselves immacuately. The big pres, coaches, officials and players all made a point of congratulating us as winners. All the best in 2011 GE, I hope you win the big one.

Well done to the Parade boys for getting through. Things looked a bit shaky at times during the year, but they have come good when it counts.

Sniper, how's the big Bentleigh ruckman feeling today ? Call me a conspiracy theorist, but there wouldn't have been any time-wasting tactics involved in his sudden "fainting' would there ? From my understanding, there was no time on in the last quarter of the twos game, so the 5 - 7 minutes where the game was stopped to look after him was potentially crucial to the outcome. Parade kicked three goals to get within 11 points in the last, and had ALL the momentum yet the quarter went the same length as all the rest. Who's to know what might have happened if we'd had those extra 5 minutes.

I suspect with such a serious injury to the head he won't be playing next week. That would be the right thing to do wouldn't it. Doubt that will occur though.......

There was certainly no time wasting tactics involved with him being taken from the ground. He copped a whack to the head earlier in the game and the second head on head clash sent him to the ground and required him to be strecthered off the field.

He had to receive a lift home after the game and has "the headache of all headaches" today. Hopefully he is right to play this week but we have had instances at the club before where players have been ruled out the following week.

The Parade boys were definately coming home strong and it was a thrilling finish to a game that was bound to be a close one given the close results during the home and away season.

congratulations to the lads today on the slop which was the coburg city oval... bentleigh 6 11 47 v old paradians 5 5 35.

now to the grand final next SUNDAY, 12/09/10 against banyule starting 11:55am at highgate reserve, craigieburn.

CRAIGIEBURN??? where the f**k is CRAIGIEBURN???

As of today there may be a change of venue. Stay Tuned!!!

Well Chips & Garvey since you guys had only kicked 2 goals to 3 qtr time & were 5 goals down early in the last, I'd say the game was pretty much done & dusted. So you're an drawing an extremely long bow there & from my understanding the clock stopped as the quarter went for 30mins. For a man that big he must have taken a fair whack, so I draw this long bow & from what I heard from around the ground the Paradians coach told he troops to target the Bentleigh ruckman. Confirm or deny?

Oh & don't let sour grapes cloud your judgement.

Congrats though for your club getting promoted to D1

the last quarter went to 31 minutes & the other 3 went to 28 minutes so even if there WASNT a hold up in play, the old paradians wouldve STILL ran out of time, i believe.

anyway, dont worry about it too much brother as your club is playing division 1 footy in 2011 by virtue of your seniors yesterday. congratulations!! :thumbsu:

Apparently VFL Final Box Hill v North Ballarat has been transferred to Craigieburn on Sunday??

Game is definitely being played at Craigieburn.

Magnificent ground and facilities. Wouldn't even know that it is winter. Dry as a bone, size of the MCG. Ground is massive!!

If wind is predicted then will be very windy as not much protection.

Very gracious of you SOTY.

Parade won because they were the best team on the day...no arguments there.
GE while deeply disappointed were prightly proud of their efforts in coming so far. It is our 1st final series for many years and the footy gods didn't smile on us...

If anything it has simply whetted the appetite to ensure we progress further next year.

Onwards and upwards to another summer of recruiting, getting committees loaded up with the right people, chasing sponsors and the like..the fun never really stops does it?

Good luck to both Banyule and OPs next week.

The Bears in a tight one for mine and I'm sure both clubs will acquit themselves well in D1 in 2011.

Roll on 2011 for the rest of us...

Congrats to Parade on promotion to D1 along with Banyule

If the weather holds off for the rest of the week Highgate will be in great shape and will provide for a first class contest

The week off will benefit the Bears who im tipping to win by 22pts

On another note D2 has been a cracker this year who has:

over-achieved -Old Westbourne, with out a decent preseason they have beat all expectations

under-achieved - Therry has been very disappointing and will need to have a good look at themselves from the top down. Positive is that the u19's are a very strong unit and in a GF

Unlucky - Bentleigh with the amount of injuries and suspensions. Good base to work from with a very strong 2s side

Building on 2011 - St Leos, after being the inform team on the run home they should be looking forward to a good 2011

Why would they? Absolute s*** club. Ormond has as much chance of moving to the SFL as John Howard has of being voted President of the Pakistan Cricket Association.Parkdale may move but I recall they were the team that was going to dominate the Ammos as a result of their amalgamation a few years back and many clubs were very worried about their likely dominance. So much for that theory! Parkdale will stay put and try to win a flag in D grade and start their climb.South Districts are struggling because they have paid lip service to their juniors for a number of years and they know realise they have to do something if they want to survive. They can't rely on Port Colts to keep sending them players. They will remain in the Ammos, but may struggle for a few years.
Next season could be a different story for a few of these former SFL clubs.

And you guys, especially Sniper, wonder why GE supporters have such a hatred for Bentleigh with comments like that. By the way get your facts right. Do you know how many players came from Murrumbeena. Go back to the SFL where you will be at home with your feral mates

Might I add here, although very learned follower on local footy, 1969 is exactly that, a follower of local footy. He comments on threads from SFL to VAFA & even WRFL for god sake. Has admitted to me that he's not in the inner sanctum of Bentleigh, so he like everyone else, is taking a educated guess on what might happen in 2011.
Like everyone who puts "Bentleigh" down in their location, I try to establish to know who that person is, so I can keep tabs on what is & isn't coming from Bentleigh Football Club people. 1969 hasn't been forthcoming to his real identity, so let's not point fingers at BFC, eh?

He doesn't share the same opinion as me on GE

PS,
I really couldn't be less interested how many players you pinched from Murrumbeena or anywhere else.In fact I commend your club for being on the ball and getting this team together. It doesn't happen often at GE.What a shame your seniors couldn't be bothered supporting them during the season. We won't go into too much detail about their atrocious behaviour during the season, so much so that they were threatened with being kicked out.Is there any chance that a couple of your committee might try and actually promote juniors through your club? You know an Oz Kick and God forbid an Under 9 or Under 10 team? You have an excellent facility, a cricket club that is located at the ground, and surrounds where hundreds of people attend every weekend ie a captive audience.Clubs would kill for such a jump start. Alas it would take away from your valuable drinking time, you know 2-3am and then get back onto it the next day.It won't be long before you will be changing your name again.A little bit of paint to try and cover up what are serious structural problems.
Before you worry Bentleigh being ferrals, just have a look in your own club. You have more than you fair share.

Banyule to defeat Parade by 39 points. The week off and the fact that Parade have had to play in the mud the last 2 weeks should play into the bears hands.

Banyule over Bentleigh by 14 points.

I have no affiliation with GE or any great insight into how they operate but for the sake of balance and fairness it needs to be said that they did make repeated efforts to get juniors up and running. In short the reason they did not succeed was due to enormous number of clubs already in the area. When that failed they tried to get an U19 team by forming an alignment with St Peters, probably the strongest junior club in the area. Many of the St Peters U17s attend De La Salle or St Bedes so the cream of talent seems to end up at these A grade old boys clubs who have Premier division U19 teams. In addition there were already alignments with Ormond, Oakleigh, Bentleigh and others so this was never going to fly but at least they had a crack. They did make numerous approaches to other local schools but again the number of established clubs proved too much of an obstacle. While you may have many legitimate reasons for disliking GE it is unfair to include their lack of juniors as one them.

Hey 1969, you obviously have no insight what so ever in the goings on of the G.E football club. If you did, you would know that we do have Aus kick, and we are looking at having a number of junior teams next year. As for the drinking, thats right I forgot we are the only club that drinks in league, and 2-3 am is a bit hard when the rooms have to be shut by midnight! We have our family day on this Saturday, your most welcome to come down and verbalize your opinion of our club, I'm sure our committee, players and supporters would be most interested. I will even bring a keyboard down just to make you feel at home.

No Auskick hey?

My wife would love to know what I've been doing every Saturday morning for the last 5 years then! She now thinks I've got a mistress!

Your credibility has just been shot. Muppet.

Can you please refrain from commenting on things that you have no idea about.

The last game for Banyule and Old Paradians as they farewell Division 2 and head to the higher echelons of the VAFA. Both were preseason favourites to make it this far amongst some of the knowledgeable judges, including the author as it was pointed out that the road to promotion would go thru these two northern suburb powerhouses. Although the Raiders have had a couple of hiccups during the later part of the season they have shown their class when required to have the opportunity to challenge the Bears for bragging rights for next season. The Bears have been atop the heap all season an rightly go into Sunday's game as the hot favourites as the confidence at the club is at an all-time high. But. One of their two losses during the season was to the Raiders, although that was way back in early June. Both teams have class forwards in Brown (Bany) and Boundy (OPar) and whoever has the bigger influence on the game will likely see their team win. The Bears go into the game fresh from the weeks rest while the Raiders need to recover quickly from the hard slog last week. I have liked Old Paradians all season long and although they go into the game as outsiders I think they can cause a mini upset and win by around 7 points.

In the Reserves, Banyule should prove far too strong for a gallant Bentleigh.

Great effort by Brabs. Back when I was playing he was a gun (mid nineties) but Phelan was better. I wouldn't think at his age he would be a threat to The Bears.
