Gents,

On Saturday I ventured to Caulfield and watched the Game of the Round... Monash Indians v Hawthorn Hacks.

(Do yourselves a favour when visiting there and get stuck into some ripper canteen food!)

Coach Tyson was unable to get his charges over the line in an enthralling last quarter where his Hawks gave up a 30 point, 3/4 time lead to lose by a solitary point.

The old stagers from the Hawks like Avery, Lauletta and Tyson couldn't get them home. The Monash boys looked fresh at 3/4 time despite being smashed all day and I have to admit, the 3/4 time address from the Monash coach was inspirational..and no swear words either!

The Hawks just couldn't get their hands on the ball in the last quarter and Monash controlled to quarter for long periods and slipped in...just!

Monash need to be swabbed. There needs to be a VAFA investigation into what was in the Monash drink bottles at the final break! Hawks were shattered. Gryphons play their home ground very well. A great team effort.

I'm shocked at the St Johns v Power House result. Apparently, due to parole conditions, most of the St Johns team are not allowed to leave Dandenong so I'm guessing their away form might be poor this season. Eddo from the House booted another lazy 6.

Uni High smashed an insipid Latrobe by 12+ goals despite my prediction of a loss. Could be a long season for the Trobers....but plenty of beer drinking! Boyces boys should not get too carried away with this result.

Eltham smashed relegation favorites Swinburne by 20 goals. No Mary Higgins this season for the Swinburne Pigs while the Garrard brothers had a day out for the Turtles with no real opposition.

And new flag favorites Williamstown predictably killed off an ageing Elsternwick side by almost 15 goals. I'm sure the Williamstown brainstrust would have loved leaving Lee "1 out" in the square on the small ground. He booted a lazy 13...which was 2 more than the whole Elsternwick side!

After my visit to watch the Gryphons fight back, my money at this stage is still on a Williamstown v Eltham Grand final with Swinburne and Latrobe dropping down.

I'm Dee Three, that's my take...

Just wanted to post something cos I haven't been heard so far this season... Results on the weekend showed some big margins, was it just a weekend for big results or are teams in D3 this year really that far apart??

Round 3 Odds & Preview

Round 3

Game 1 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
Williamstown CYMS $1.20 $ 3.00 $ 1.60
Eltham $4.05 $ 6.00 $ 9.95

The pretenders vs the real deal here. If Eltham can win this one (or even get close) they will prove me and most other pundits wrong. The CY's were in devastating form last week against a highly ranked side, while Eltham have beaten the two relegation favourites. Lee will kick another 8 minimum and Williamstown will win by 87 points.

Game 2 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
La Trobe Uni $5.00 $ 6.00 $ 24.00
St John's OC $1.15 $ 4.00 $ 1.30

Let's get one thing straight, La Trobe are rubbish and wouldn't trouble Bulleen Cobras the way they're playing at the moment. My mail is that a wedding out at St. John's last week meant they didn't field their strongest side, but this week they'll turn the tables. St. John's by 116 points with 14 individual goal kickers

Game 3 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
Elsternwick $1.40 $ 2.40 $ 2.70
UHS-VU $2.75 $ 4.00 $ 7.05

The Wicks coming off a belting they haven't experienced in some time and Uni High coming off their first win in D3 since......who can remember back that far. Who knows, perhaps Elsternwick aren't that good, and maybe UHS aren't that bad? UHS haven't proven anything yet beating this years wooden spooners, Elsternwick by 34 points

Game 4 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
Power House $1.80 $ 2.80 $ 4.05
Monash Gryphons $1.90 $ 3.00 $ 4.15

Match of the Round. The Gryphons coming off a stirring 1 point win. The House sending warning signals to the comp that they can mix it with the big boys. Monash lost to St. John's Round 1, who the House beat last week, but as I previously mentioned, St. John's had up to 10 missing due to a wedding. A thriller at Ross Gregory Oval, the House by 4pts. Wells vs Eddo??? Matchup of the Round, Eddo to kick 3

Game 5 Win Under 39.5 Over 39.5
Swinburne $4.00 $ 5.00 $ 16.00
Hawthorn $1.20 $ 3.00 $ 1.60

Hawthorn ran out of legs last week while the pigs never got started. Mail suggests Dan Lauletta will miss with a hamstring injury, while the pigs are without Mary Higgins. Who will kick the goals? Hawthorn, and plenty of them on this small ground. Ogge to kick another 5 and Hawthorn by 62 points

You had better believe that they are that far apart. There's more than a solitary mile between the foam and the silt in D3 this year.

Rooster

Are you willing to cut my lawn with 'nail scissors' (A la - Lou Richards in the old World of Sport days) if St Johns don't win by 100 plus points?

I think you're being a bit harsh on Latrobe, even though I agree they will struggle to avoid relegation.

I agree I dont think latrobe are that bad from what i saw on the weekend had alot of young guys in the side and waiting for a few more to come back into it.. and the week before only lost by 15 points on there second ground. I would think swinburne are in a worse position than what they are in

Boycey must be stoked to have you defending his honour so vehemently.

Tips for this week:

Willy to beat Eltham by 33
St Johns over La Trobe - 6 goals
Uni High over E'Wick - 12 points
The House and Eddo over Monash by a whisker
Lauletta & Jacko to beat the swines (!) by ten goals

i like that word..

1. Characterized by forcefulness of expression or intensity of emotion or conviction; fervid: a vehement denial. See Synonyms at intense.
2. Marked by or full of vigor or energy; strong: a vehement storm.

Great chance to see where the Turtles are at against the only other undefeated team this week? A win would put us a game clear on top and give us a massive amount of confidence for the rest of the season ahead!!!

Eltham
St Johns
Elsternwick
Hawthorn
Home team out of Powerhouse & Monash?? Tough pick!

Good luck to all on Saturday.

well this should be a good round with the top of the table clash
reckon williamstown will be too good for eltham

st johns should account for la trobe

uni to knock of elsternwick

think powerhouse should be able to beat monash in a close one

and hawthorn to beat swinburne in a bounce back after last weeks loss

Willy over Eltham 79
St John's over Latrobe 65
E'Wick over Uni 19 (will be very ugly to watch)
Monash over Eddo 30 These Indians seem to be warming up
Greg Norman's Hawks over Swinnie by 10 pts (Hawthorn without Lauletta are rubbish - these chokers will not make finals this year)

Wafer tipped 5 last week with those late changes, it means Ice is 4 behind him in the tips.

Seems that Wafer is calling for donations, he must have dropped a bit of coin at the Wonga Park RSL - Wafer whats your favourite Poker Machine? Is it the thrill of Racing with the Spring Carnival game or maybe your a fan of the orientals and like playing that Geisha game? Yes I know its hard to get the free spins.

Onto this weeks tips.

Willy over Eltham by 53
St Johns over La Trobe - 87
E'Wick over Uni by 10
powerhouse over Monash by 24
Burwood Road over Rathmines Road by 48

Surely its the "Wheres the Gold?" machine whhhhtssh!! YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAA
Get on findo, hes always got the gold!!

Agreed Nikko, it is the gentlemans machine that one.

By the way, how have you found the jump in class to d3 has treated uni? From what i can gather with results it seems 1-1 you would take that.

Chosen's for rd3

Willy by a few, would love to see eltham get up, just can see it yet..
Jocs by 10 majors - LaTrobe will still be reeling after last start.
Monash over the house - 15 pts
Hawks to account for swinny - 5 goals.

Chosen will be down at #2 this weekend to see the wickers and UHS, last start for the wickers was a shocker and definately looking to bounce back. all reports from last sat say that UHS did it easy. Game of the round for sure. would love to see E'wick get up, but last week was a big loss. for the sake of my tips, UHS by 4pts

As for today - Dons by 6pts

Till next week

#2

I know you've all been waiting for Quasi's tips and contrary to popular belief both Wafer and myself are both on 8/10.

Should be a beaut round 3:

Willy over Eltham by 38pts (Will firm in Premiership betting)
St Johns to beat Latrobe by 46 (No need to cut Rooster's Lawn)
Elsternwick over Uni High by 53 (Lock of the week. Shane Mahoney may even kick a goal).
The House over the Gryphs by 16 (Monash to struggle to contain Eddo)
Hawthorn by 28 over Swinny (Won't be as easy as many may believe).

Best of luck to all

Quasi
