Common. He is probably only Ports 3 or 4 best. So that makes him maybe a top 30-40 player in the league. At best

This is the sort of ******ed reasoning that these trade threads are peppered with.

He's literally made the AA side the last 2 seasons. How many players are named in the AA side? I'll wait.

So much backpedaling in this trade period, every club wants to win the deal at all costs.

Makes for frustrating experience as a supporter.

I reckon Houston really isn’t too fussed where he goes but wants to be at a contender. He doesn’t want to go to north and who would blame him, they’ve won about 15 games in 5 years. They’re a few years off attracting top line players.

He will have no issue coming back to Alberton

I am not saying there is an issue going back, he will be welcomed back. I just think once you are this far down the path in a career move you have your head around moving.

Worst case for him is the Kangaroo's on a huge salary at a club that desperately want him. He will take that if the Collingwood offer falls through.

Leppitsch’s interview yesterday was a high speed car crash…

Suggested pick 13 is worth more than pick 13 because of what you can do with it…well, if pick 13 is worth pick 8 then give Port pick 8 instead and everyone will be happy.
Any link to interview?

Wants to go to a contender probably why the Bombers have not been mentioned.

Did Port actually look any different in September with Houston out of the side?

Port should give Burgoyne that role permanently and take everything Collingwood is willing to offer.

I’m glad we’re out. We’ve got two all Australian half back flankers already. It’s the most overrated position in football.

You have no clue if you think Port didn’t miss Houston especially in their 84pt thumping by the Cats first week of finals. Geelong exploited their lack of creativity and long kicking in defence perfectly and Port were stuck with repeat entry after repeat entry in their D50. You’re very bold and very wrong to say rebounding defenders are the most overrated in today’s game where rebound is paramount (Pies won a flag pretty much solely based off it and the Giants aren’t too far off).

And I am saying this regardless of whether the Pies land him or not, unlike your little coping mechanism post.

I didn't think they looked much different either and Burgoyne did well in his stead.

This is why I don't think he moves the needle enough to warrant the cost. Pies can have him.

Genuinely hope they get him.

List profile suggests it’s now or never.

Makes for a bleak 2026+ though.

Bit more coping? The going price seems very reasonable. A little under two first rounders as a total value package but not giving two individual first round picks in it.

Burgoyne looks a talent with great potential. But in that Cats game we’re talking about 9 kicks, 3 intercepts and 2 score involvements. That’s got nothing on peak Houston output. He did much better in the next two games but the Port flag chase was lost in that first week.

Whatever you’re projecting for 2026 is just a hopeful guess. The exact same was said of us in 2021 and look what happened.

Anyway on topic I’m of the opinion that the Pies should pay whatever they can to get Houston. If we come out of a three way deal still with a pick in the late 20s or 30s then we’ve done well. If Port stick to the highest bidder then I don’t think it’s us as we simply don’t have the same capital as North and Carlton.

I'd argue having someone that can break a zone off half back is one of the most important positions in football

Getting a hbf who gets the ball a lot is the easiest position in the afl to fill.
Getting a Houston type who can actually defend and intercept on top of that is very hard to find.

Not just that, Houston is one of the best ball users in the comp, Jack of all trades type defender.
