And Carlton will say nice talk, not happening.

When has a half back ever gone for 2 first rounders? Has it ever happened? Genuine question
If Voss wants him, and thinks he ll make a difference towards a flag push they’ll work something out. Pick 13ish + F1 (15-18) would be good business for Carlton.

And then in 3 years time when we have stuff all youth coming through and all our players are getting on in age we're totally screwed. I just can't see us agreeing to 2 firsts, I know Port fans will say that's fair value and they're entitled to do so, but to me it's suicidal for our list future.

Does it matter if you win a flag? You have to maximise your chances whilst in the window no?

Honestly I can’t see how they do it without clearing cap space somewhere

I’m not saying we’ll get Houston at all but the salary cap thing that constantly gets trotted out is a bit ridiculous. We’ll delist and move on quite a few this year and free cap space. Rough estimates for just a few of the likely outs:
  • J. Martin - 500-600K
  • Marchbank - 400-500K
  • Cuningham - 400-500K

  • Houston - 800K
  • Draftee - base wage (100-200K)
  • Draftee - bass wage (100-200K)

That’s just a simple way to show how it could be achieved. I also don’t understand why Carlton would be in any more cap strife than other teams. All teams would be operating close to the cap.

These are all way over.
Halve them and you’d be closer.

You’re probably right. Even with their injury histories they would be on more than base wages though. But even so my point is that it would be quite possible to fit in Houston. And there will be more moved on than that.

Dan is elite. Dont want to lose him. Could absolutely play as a midfielder too at the right club - is tough in the contest, clean hands, big tank, defensive mindset with offensive weapons - good overhead.
