Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

i just worry that were going to get to the point where this becomes touch football, or netball where players are too scared to do anything for fear of suspension

the game has become way too sanitized, todays incident to me is a byproduct of the game being played the way I like to watch it. i already hate the way this game is going, and i just dont want to see an overreaction to an incident like this cause more sanitization to the game

i know im a port fan, but i would be the same if it happened to a player on my team too - let em play the old way I say :)

I don't know if you are a father or not but to all those that say "get over it" let's all hope you don't have to go through what PD parents are going through.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Thank you WW for your genuinely kind words - but no-one here (or noone with any sense) is saying there was intent or that the Melbourne players are thugs - far from it - but negligent, reckless maybe - at least one of them (if not all) has a serious case to answer IMO. You don't potentially end careers with 'normal' tackling (yet to be seen).

So sad to see this and I really hope he's alright.

I understand that you guys are not happy with the situation at hand (pray it isn't a bad one :thumbsu:) and I won't respond to individual posts but I'll say this. Neither McDonald or Moloney are thugs. Neither would want to hurt Danger. Please keep your heads because the tackle wasn't an uncommon one (see Watts' first touch in AFL football) and it happens in this sport. There are always risks when you're AFL footballers or any sportsman for that matter because non-malicent tackles can end seasons (see Aaron Ramsey).

Really hope he's okay as well as the other injured blokes :thumbsu:

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

True to a point, for two of the Dees.

Just saw it on the news, and the player with the hand on the back of Danger's head/neck (that forced Dangers chin down towards his chest, making the contact with the ground worse) should have a case to answer.

Absolutely spot on:thumbsu:

That player should be reported and given weeks.

Your kidding right? arms pinned, gang tackled by 3 players and then ridden into the ground head first. You want to see more of this? They wouldnt even get away with this in rugby. Now Im not saying this was intentional or unintentional, havent looked at this closely, but reckless at the very least. He could have permanent damage to his spine, and you want to see more of this? Thank goodness the people who have the authority to change the rules are not like you. It is no wonder you are a Port fan. As a mother of a young son playing football I hope the Afl do something about this because this aint football as I know it and want it.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Really hope he is okay! One of my favourite non-melbourne players at the moment.

It did look quite ugly, however I don't think in the heat of the moment the Melbourne players who jumped in to assist the tackle had the time to think "His arms are pinned and is falling forwards, if I join this tackle I may be able to cause him a serious neck injury!!!!" more "opponent has ball, tackle". Reckless no doubt, but people in this thread suggesting the tackle was Melbourne sniping one of your best players is quite absurd.

Good luck for the rest of the season.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Yes and thats the sort of ridiculous post you'd expect from someone who hasn't read the thread or has only read it selectively. To summarise yet again - intent no, reckless negligence in a professional sport, probably - and a case to answer - yes.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Was certainly ugly and, as has been said before, was probably partly brought about by Dangermouse's strength as the first two guys couldn't bring him to ground. I do wonder how much control any of the Melbourne guys had once there were three of them involved. I don't know whether each of them knew what the other was doing in terms of pinning arms, falling forwards or pushing on the back of his head. I'd love somebody to blame, but right now I'm just hoping Dangermouse is back and firing on all cylinders soon.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Thinking about the incident in general I have listed several points.

1) The AFL have a duty of care to their employees the same as any registered organisation.

2) The speed of the game has increased greatly since the early 80s and the average AFL player has become stronger, faster and much fitter.

3) The 4 man interchange system allows continual turnover of fresh players onto the field.

4) The pace is frenetic and perhaps the game has outgrown the rules to some extent.

5) The AFL must investigate the incident thoroughly as they are obliged by law to do so and ensure their employees working environment is safe.

6) If this means slowing the game down then so be it, I would rather this than the frightening alternative.

I dearly hope that Patrick is OK.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

one of the scariest and most concerning things i can remember seeing on a footy field. was getting a bit choked up as i was watching in a pub with no commentary and no idea how bad it could possibly have been.

best of luck to patrick

unfortunately, I have actually been through something very similar myself which resulted in concussion, broken jaw, torn rotator cuff, labrum and broken collar bone - im definately aware of the dangers, i just think they are once every 6 months and is an associated risk of playing the game

anyways - my opinion seems to differ from most, and not being a crows fan Im sure its not the most sensitive time for me to be debating my thoughts etc. I respect everyones opinions here, rate the kid and truly hope he is ok to return asap (after the 1st showdown of course ;-)

good luck!

Same. Now the unbearable wait. It was the same when Hentschel went down in 2006. Trying to find out what had happened and sifting through conflicting reports as they filtered through. With Trent it was either an ACL, a broken leg or what was worse, someone was saying just a dislocated kneecap and he could be back in a couple of weeks... as it turned out it was all three plus tax.

With Danger I've now heard cracked vertebrae, dislocated shoulder, rotator cuff, broken arm, broken neck...

I don't actually care now that we are 0-3 or care about how we go this season. Just want some good news about Dangerfield please.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

No problem with two of the guys in the tackle but Maloney def wanted to hurt and in doing so was pretty reckless. He could have easily have realised he was going head first into the turf.

Hope all is well with Danger!!!

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Hope he's ok and in the hands of only the best medical support available.

The umpire... made a mistake with this incident. Reminded me of when Robert Harvey got Ko'd and did his knee because the umpire took so long to blow the whistle.

The AFL need to look into this incident is all I will say. In the NFL, they brought in the rule that if a receiver goes to ground it is illegal to tackle for reasons we saw today... I just hope we were unlucky and nothing else.

If nothing else, hope he gets the messages of concern and well wishing from the AFC massive.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Ben Hart said at the aftermatch function in Melbourne that their, I assume the club medico's, initial thoughts were that it wasn't so much of a structural issue. But I guess we won't know for sure until the scans.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Danger had scans and has been cleared of any fractures. He is staying overnight in hospital though, under observation. Good news it seems.

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

As a Melbourne fan, I should probably apologise for that clown above, it's poor form to joke about something so serious.

In any case, I hope the kid is okay.

Best of luck to him and the rest of you for 2010 :thumbsu:

Re: Dangerfield - rotator cuff?

Adelaide Football Clubs facebook update: Patrick has had a CT Scan and been cleared of any neck fractures, so that's good news. He will stay overnight in hospital and have further scans tomorrow. We will know more about Bock (hamstring), Tippett (ankle) and Hentschel (swollen knee) tomorrow.
