First of all I wouldnt think WC would offer up Priddis.
Secondly, I would be amazed if GWS let Coniglio go this year. They obviously rated him highly and would understand the issues surrounding such young men being taken away from home. They would back themselves to change his mind in yr 2, knowing the worst case is WC (& Freo) would have to pay a pretty penny anyway should he decide to go.

From a personnel point of view, I think a core midfield of shuey, gaff, coniglio and masten is probably too light, small and young. Imagine them against the hardened and tall midfield bodies of the swans, hawks or pies.

Thanks for your thoughts. I didn't think it would happen this year but as was posted by Marlin, if we want to be in the race we will have to offer up something decent. The hard bit is working out what to give up without giving away too much. Priddis has market value and would offer GWS something they don't really have. Having said that, I am glad WC don't readily trade their older stars as they pave the way for the younger ones to follow and regardless it creates a poor culture in the club.

Agree the midfield you listed is small but I think it will bulk up sufficiently in the next couple of years and personally I put more stock in the quality and game plan rather than the height. I suspect Congilio probably wont make it to WC anyway.

Forgetting the love and hate people have for priddis the majority of us believe that what we are struggling with atm is the clearances and contested footy in the midfield. I don't care what people say about priddis as a player but it's hard to deny that he is an elite clearance winner and contested ball winner. The same 6 people are currently leading both the CP and Clearances. Kennedy, Dangerfield, abblett, Watson, thompson and priddis. We need more players like this. We shouldn't be trading them away.

I reckon Masten would do alright in the clearances for us if he got more time actually on ball.

This off the main Drafts and Trading Board
West Coast
Lynch to Bris/Coll/GWS/GCS/Melb/Port/Adel (several teams looking for another power forward)
Brown to STK
Stevens to Coll/Carl/StK/Ess/Melb
Smith to Rich

Wellingham to WCE/ Freo (home sickness) - more likely to be pushed out - prefer Fasolo

thinking we would gain some good draft picks for Brown, Smith, Stevens - certainly under 30

Doubt Lynch would leave, doubt we'd consider trading him.

All the other trades I'd do.

Brown for StKilda's first rounder would be a dream (if we picked up a replacement KPD - ie. Hooker, Pears, Chaplin)

1) WC dont have the depth to lose 4 players in and round their best 22.
2) Smith and Stevens probably worth picks 25-35 but WC would want considerably better to trade Brown
3) Dees have mooted they will be active in the trade period but one name brought up surprised me - Sam Blease. He is exactly what WC need - probably a better fit than every other name mentioned in these threads.

They said he would but still hasn't signed .

That's what I was going to say aswell, I searched his name up, an article came up from a week ago saying he was still to sign, and 1 the week before that saying he has comitted, if he doesn't sign, we can probably go for him, I had a look at a thread yesterday, and saw some posts about Sharrod Wellingham, people wanted something like a 2nd round pick and Stevens

I like the look of blease - convincing him to move west may be a obsticle

Not for picks. Unless we're looking at HB flankers. We've got a few, could probably trade one or two.

except realistically only one has any value, hurn. rest we would get virtually nothing for.

I'm sure we could get a pick upgrade with a few players at the very least. Depends how creative the front office is looking to get at the trade table. History tells us, not very.

Probably need some pace through the middle.

Some players to explode from congestion.

Shuey is the only dynamic runner in the centre, Kerr is on his last legs.

Too many plodders, not enough spread - approach Foley on the cheap.

WC have spread due to the wingers and flankers getting involved, but it's correct to say that WC are short of pace through the middle.

That's called holding your shape, spread is the ability to explode from congestion.

Other than Shuey the cupboard is bare.

No, it's not called holding your shape. 'Spread' is working into space to be available to be the next link in the chain. Spread doesn't just apply to centre square mids.

'Holding your shape' is keeping the team's field placing form and structure.

I've already agreed that bar Shuey, WC need more speed in the middle.
