Nope, Zaharakis and Shuey were drafted in the same year. I think you're probably thinking the way you are as Shuey didn't get out on the park in his first year in the AFL.

Yeah however, Zaharakis was overlooked for the 2007 draft as a bottom aged player.

Wellingham would be nice but he's not the type of player we need IMO.

Sylvia is the one I personally want. Koby Stevens and our Second Pick too little? (We really need to keep our first round pick to draft a mid). Dynamic, damaging clearance player who kicks goals through the midfield, HFF or deep (great overhead mark). Very much like a big bodied Shuey (yet a better mark).

Not really interested on montagna as i dont think he adds anything we need. He's just another small mid who's mainly outside. He's good at what he does but not worth chasing. (i've probably always underrated him though as i personally dont think he's really much better than rosa) I've already mentioned i'd love to have pearce.
Montagna is much better than Rosa. Unlike the latter, he steps up in the big games and you're right - he is very proficient in his position.

Thoughts on Pearce at Port?

Another restricted free agent.

Still keen on Montagna if he was interested.
Has a lot of up-side. He is quick and runs his guts out all day (I think he's in the top 5 in the league for average distance covered during a game). At 26 years of age, could provide a handy option in the midfield.

Think that Essendon have a few we could turn around in Pears, Hooker or Gumbleton.

But midfield is what we need, any good Mids we could grab.

If we could get Gumbleton, and he is over his injuries, and he is relatively cheap(2nd rounder or late first) I reckon that could be great for us. Plonk him at FF

Not for that price, would only take him with a late 2nd rounder at best. His injury record and proof of performance at this level doesn't make him a viable late 1st round pick trade... would rather try package something for Rich

I think if we lose guys like Stevens, Smith and Lycett we will come to regret it.

For whatever reason we just do not seem to reward good WAFL form and I think maybe some of the younger guys get a little disillusioned and when that happens form drops away.

We do need someone to either step up internally in the middle or to snag an established mid, but I can't see many on offer.

Agreed.

Our player development just seems to have stalled in recent years. Young blokes in and out of the team before they 'get a feel' for the pace of the game, others not had a game since the dark days of 2010 and who haven't been able to work in a 'winning' team.

I look across many other teams and there are young players coming through (Eg Geelong, Collingwood) and their futures looking solid. Take out our top picks of Gaff and Nic Nat and our recruitment & development just looks a little ho hum

The match committee definitely have a very rigid "old school" approach to team selection. Senior players>high draft picks>workman like>connection to the club>form.

Rarely seem to give some of these guys an extended run either. How a player like McGinnity gets a free pass, despite form, yet other guys like Swift or Stevens struggle to get a role as sub then get ceremoniously dumped completely bemuses me.

Darling, Scotter, Mastern...???

Darling? Shuey?

Gummbleton ain't going anywhere, we've invested too much time in getting his back right to then trade him for a 2nd round pick. Now that his injuries are behind him I expect him to be a 50+ goal a year forward.
If you wanted to swap Gummbleton + our 2nd round pick for Gaff then I'd be up for that. Gaff is exactly what the Bombers need going forward.

Pears and Colyer would both be worth 2nd round draft picks. Can't see Pears going though, at his best he is by far our best defender.

No love for Cruize Garlett? Having another pretty good game tonight. He's not a star but would add something.

I'm not sold on Cruize, I can't work out if he is inside or outside or just a poor combination of both. Would add nothing that Colyer, Sylvia, Rodan or Pearce couldn't. However I would resist going anywhere near these players too.

Get Rich... we are one gun midfielder away from having a powerhouse midfield, at the moment if one gets tagged out it effects our game too much.

Yeah... nah... you can forget looking at Gaff.

Would definitely look at Pears though, at his best he his very very good.

No, it's not called holding your shape. 'Spread' is working into space to be available to be the next link in the chain. Spread doesn't just apply to centre square mids.

'Holding your shape' is keeping the team's field placing form and structure.

I've already agreed that bar Shuey, WC need more speed in the middle.

Would you be keen on Colyer or Jetta?
