FantaPantsKyle?

I reckon blakely has a lot of improvement in him,i think you will get more consistency from him long over a long period of time.I feel that cockatoo will be a guy that will be a bit inconsistent from week to week.1 of these guys whos best is very very good, but his bad games he will barely touch it.Blakely I think will be the type of guy that you know what your gonna get from him,and there wont be a big difference from his good and bad games.Just my opinion

We've drafted these types for the past five years and look where it's got us. There are numerous examples of players who begun their careers inconsistently and have since become consistent and are the best in the league. Ablett and Johnson are two straight off the top of my head.

Would rather take the risk on a player with a higher ceiling like Cockatoo now that we have Waterman locked in to be honest. I just don't know if Blakely's ceiling is high enough to warrant our first pick. I felt even by picking Sheed last year we played it safe. Time to make or break with the list we have.

Exactly.

Blakely can EAD. We would have the exact same problems with our slow vanilla factor midfield if we drafted him as our first. No deal Andrew.

Sounds awfully similar to a player we already have.

Harsh?

Won't be his fault if our recruiters decide to call out his number on draft day - even if they will have chosen a player not best suited to fill our needs

I'm guessing he meant 'the selection of Blakely can eat a metaphysical dick'.

I don't reckon Blakely and Waterman are that similar, other than the fact that they are inside mids. Blakely has this real knack for wiggling free out of congestion. I wish we'd started a rumour about him aswell so he could last to 32.

I agree with the comment on Sheed. Don't get me wrong I think he'll be a quality player but personally I was an ardent supporter of selecting Acres and I think we've already seen this year that Acres is not only at a higher level already but probably has more potential too. I feel like sometimes the West Coast recruiters can get too hung up on a certain player and pigeonhole him early on and I'm worried that this year that player might be De Goey if Pickett doesn't slide even though better options (Weller and Duggan in particularly) could be available.

Still have 4 weeks to go before draft day

Based on?

based on watching blakely play at swans, hes usually consistent week to week. And by reading a draft profile about cockatoo saying he can be inconsistent from time to time and is prone to going missing in games at times. As I said, just my opinion and I know some wont agree with me,but id take blakely over cockatoo.

IMO we need to break the mould here. Blakely is MORE similar to Waterman, Priddis and Sheed than Cockatoo is. ie Cockatoo has so much X factor and unpredictable ability to win games off his own bat whereas our bunch of steady eddy's are all middle of the road. Keep them and add Cocky and then you have a midfield that might achieve something. IMHO

IMHO we got the best WA mid this year already - Waterman. He's inside mid, tough, good disposal, good short burst. He's for all intents and purposes the safe option. We're sitting pretty to take the best available, so just see how the top 10 shakes out and go from there. There's a month left for all the 17/18 year olds to tweet something silly, get caught on the piss or get king hit outside a pub. There's no need to play it safe on pick 11, so I really hope we don't.

Based on what? He played 3 games and had 26 touches across them. I watched the game against Hawks and he was an absolute turn over merchant before getting subbed out injured. Sure, he may have a higher ceiling than Sheed, but it's crazy to suggest he is at a 'higher level already'.

If we'd taken Acres and his output was the same as he produced for Saints this year, half the board (the same ones knocking sheed already) would be calling for the selectors heads.

I'd definitely favour Cockatoo over Blakely. I'd love both somehow though.

It's almost a Naitanui vs Priddis argument you're pushing.

Priddis is consistent every week. We know what to expect from him and he gets the job done. Not a great deal of difference between his good and bad games. No standout talents, just a workhorse.

Naitanui is often inconsistent. When he goes onto the ground every week we don't quite know what to expect. His bad games are absolute shockers and his good games are outstanding and get people talking. He has size, strength, pace and an unbelievable amount of x-factor to his name which he can use to turn a game around.

I think Sheed and Waterman will both fit the first scenario. With the exception of Shuey, there's nobody else in our midfield who has the ability to turn a game and really stand out. That's why I'm set either Pickett (#1) or Cockatoo (#2), who can both provide this extra flair to the midfield.

Have to agree with this. I'm no fan of Sheed but some people are rating Acres very highly on this board.

I watched every game he played for the Saints this year and he wasn't exactly aspiring to the player everyone seems to think he is.

Ummm the Blakely V Cockatoo debate.

I don't reckon all of the posters on here would have seen him play live.....!!!!

Thats unfortunate for you and your loss.

But let me tell you that a young Chris Lewis fresh out of Christ Church was VERY inconsistent .

And he developed into a MATCH WINNER and a very handy player in both our 92 and 94 Premiership teams.

It was the consistent Dwayne Lambs that got us through the seasons however it was the X Factor of Matera and Lewis that made us the all conquering team that we were.
They made the big plays in the big games they owned the big moments.
It was pure magic .

Yes you do need both types BUT which is the harder to acquire ????

X FACTOR and when it does come along you gleefully grab it with both hands.

I like the cut of your jib.

Who has X factor in our best 22 besides Nicnat? When quality X factor comes along you need to grab it by it's haunches and hump it into submission.
