I'd be interested to see a new poll with the assumption of Pickett and Weller being gone by our selection.
I for one would change my vote to Duggan, it would be intriguing to see how many Pickett fans jump on the Cockatoo bandwagon or instead vote for Duggan, Ahern, De Goey or Blakely (who should be an option if there was another poll).

yea I think cockatoo being the big bodied mid in compared to duggan..he would have to be 50% quite possibly 60%

Watching Cockatoo's highlights again he reminds me of Shaun Burgoyne at Port when he played as a pure mid. Love the way he broke through tackles and went for runs. Burgoyne was the closest thing to Judd at the time IMO. Cockatoo doesn't have the same smoothness or silk of Burgoyne though.

I see a lot of dustin martin in him. way he breaks tackles and kicks the ball. I believe he will be one of the most damaging mids in this draft. He has everything simmo wants. Big bodied, quick, elite kick (got nathan buckley award at draft camp). The only thing that would stop us drafting him is injury history. From all reports thou they think hes over them. Hes having Psych report this week. We are in the place to take the risk, having got waterman too.

I can't believe I'm saying this but if we went the Blakely route at 11 I wouldn't be that disappointed (he'd be my third or fourth choice but still).

I actually think he's a pretty exciting stoppage mid. Has great breakaway pace, strong agility and clean hands. Seems to be a strong reader of taps aswell. His kicking is the major concern for me though, doesn't look like a natural kick.

Cockatoo's kicking didn't look overly convincing from the footage IMO.

Decent summary in the article on AFL.com today

Twomey looks like he is starting to get better drafting insights (or better editorial input and support at least)

Part of the difficulty in ranking this year's first round of prospects comes due to the hard-to-assess form of the taller players.
While injuries stopped McCartin from a commanding season, the strong-marking and burly key forward was still dominant in the games he played. But Peter Wright, Sam Durdin and Hugh Goddard showed indifferent form at stages, while Jake Lever missed all of the season with a knee reconstruction.
Caleb Marchbank has also played minimal footy over the past two seasons due to back and knee injuries, meaning clubs will need to judge their performance against that of the midfielders who, on the whole, put together more consistent seasons.

So the precious talls this year are temperamental!

He is not seeing the value in Cockatoo that our poll is indicating -

Of the midfielders, Jayden Laverde, Liam Duggan, Paul Ahern, Jarrod Pickett and Jordan De Goey are all in contention as top-10 selections, while Corey Ellis and Lachie Weller won't be far off.

Last year Twomey managed to predict the first 14 in perfect order. Not a chance this year. I think he will end up with max first 5.

I wonder if that last sentence about the midfielders implies that Weller is not necessarily as highly rated by the recruiters. The first time I have seen anything that may suggest this is the case. Would be very happy if Weller slipped to us at pick 11.

The only reason he'd slip to us is due to size.

I do like blakely but having already got a similar player in waterman basically for a packet of chips. I would rather we went with a speedy type or a really good kick ala duggan, pickett ect but I wouldn't be upset if we picked him

If we draft cockatoo and miller this year + waterman we have done pretty damn well in addressing our midfield needs if you include last years haul .

Yeo - tall big bodied mid ( after another preseason) pace , marking and mongrel
Sheed - classy inside mid with good evasion and nice left foot kick
Karpany - X factor , agility , great burst of pace and able to hit targets by foot from traffic
Waterman - inside extractor with a lovely left foot kick and clean hands
Cockatoo ? - pace , X factor big bodied mid that can play inside and out
Miller ? - small mid but love a contest and tackles hard and often . Great burst of pace and loves to get forward and kick a goal .

Once these guys hit 50-100 games look out !

I love the positivity and optimism in this post and agree with all the comments on the players named.

I wouldn't say he has breakaway pace but Blakely would be a good pickup. I don't have problems with his kicking and Priddis won't be around forever. I like DeGoey better though.

As long as we keep our forward/defence stocks up our midfield could be deadly in a few years time.

I got the first 13 last year, everything gets a little clearer in the week leading up to the draft usually. I'd be seriously impressed if Twomey made a mock draft this time last year and got the first 14, absolutely noway, he would have updated it the day before the draft. Also, did he actually get McCarthy to GWS? Surely he had Taylor at 14.
