I think ppl are forgetting it was the Covid affected draft, and also weak on talent (column A+B etc).
I know this ‘cause Essendon shot themselves in the same foot three times). Cries

So, DGB probably not that great, but not Robinson Crusoe there.

He bought a place in Melbourne this year I believe so not sure if he will head back home.

Seems pretty settled.
Surely playing regular football is more important as he can easily rent the place out.

Needs to move for a fresh start.

Just curious from VFL watchers/Hawks supporters etc.

With Barrass going we obviously need KPDs coming through, and age-wise DGB would make more sense than plucking an 18 year old (plus we need the draft to fill the other million holes on our list).

That being said I'm quietly confident we have a few solid B/B minus key backs coming on through. What we don't have are any who project to be Barrass level or higher and good sides need at least one of those.

Do you think based on that pre-draft potential he'd have any chance of developing into an A-Grader? If potential is there and it's just injuries etc I'd be keen to use a list spot and roll the dice on the low chance, but if his ceiling is looking like just being decent would lean away.

Straight swap? 😉
He’s definitely got talent but he doesn’t seem to have the endurance for the modern game. Also he gets sucked in far too easily and loses focus on the game. The latter can be fixed the former probably not if after 4 years there hasn’t been discernible improvement.

Kid has talent just not a good fit for the Hawks, if I was Bombers or North it would be a cheap investment for a potential key back

We have been crying out for a key back and given him plenty of opportunity. Not sure what 'not a good fit for the Hawks' means. If he performed at VFL he would be the perfect fit.

At this point id take him cos im depressed that we are too crap to get anyone better to join us

DGB is like when you are at a party and none of the 7 outta 10 girls are coming up to talk to you, so you go find a 2 outta 10 and talk to them at the hopes you get the 7 outta 10s attentions and seem more desirable

Cmon Denver you 2 outta 10. Come home

Absolutely no tank. Does something good then ruins it by giving away silly free kicks, needs to grow up a hell of a lot.
Worth a rookie spot for someone, I’m happy for it to not be with us

Think he'll end up on a list. Most likely as a rookie via DFA.
Only way HFC could return anything would be a token late pick just to make his the transaction easy.
Not sure he is up to it.

Id take him as a rookie as a preseason SSP pick, or as a MSD pick potentially.

I like to think that putting him in a different environment with an elite player (Gov) to learn off who plays a similar role could only benefit him.

Getting delisted and having to prove himself might be enough to force him to think about whether footy is actually right for him, and whether he really wants to commit to it or max out at being a state league player.

If he was to become a delisted free agent I hope the Swans would at least ask the question of him and discuss how we could rehab him as a player.

For the following reasons
  • Supposedly we had interest in him in his draft year, and only took McDonald because North took Phillips and we didn't think McDonald would be available.
  • We have a good track record of rehabbing discarded players and he did actually have some good draft highlights in his draft year as an intercepting defender.
  • Rampe is 34 and only contracted for another season. Melican has come good but is injury prone, and McCartin is a bit concussion prone. So the extra cover could be helpful.
  • Personally I think he could become better depth than Hamling and Francis pretty quickly if he has the desire to prove himself and would provide genuine competition for guys like Edwards and Snell who haven't proven themselves AFL ready just yet.
  • That might not be enough to make a career for him, but as a delisted free agent on a rookie contract, it would be a low risk move for us.
