You'd have to think Taranto at least asked the question to his manager about a trade.

I'm still convinced that he'd be playing for Essendon next season if Dodo was still in charge.

Eh they’re on huge salaries.

Was always a gamble but more money in their back pocket than GWS could’ve afforded at the time, I think they’d be pretty content.

Isn't always about the money.

Most players in the AFL would take a bit of a pay cut if it meant playing for contending sides over what it looks like Richmond will become in the immediate future.

You'd have to think Taranto at least asked the question to his manager about a trade.

In July it was reported that he was actively talking to his teammates and trying to convince them to stay at Richmond, which obviously didn't work. Even back then he knew what was coming if they all left Punt Rd. I'm sure the money is great but losing will eventually get tiresome and he'll likely seek a trade after a few years in a struggling team like Tom Mitchell did after 4 poor years at Hawthorn. The sad part is that Taranto is likely to waste the best years of his career at Richmond given he's about to turn 27 and the Tigers have only just committed to a full rebuild.

Taranto's 26, if we make finals in 4-6 years he'll still be playing.

Despite the huge trade windfall, the Tigers will still have to develop them and not all first round picks make the grade as we saw a couple of former top 10 picks delisted recently. Taranto and Hopper were sold something other than what's transpired since they arrived. My guess is they would be seething behind closed doors! The Tigers will be doing well to win a single game in 2025, they are going to cop some big losses along the way, but their fans won't be to cross about it as Premiership glory is still fresh in their memory. However it could take 5 or 6 years before we seen them challenge again?
