My dad was a mad St.Kilda fan & so was my mum but she was also into the NRL (Newcastle)... i lived up there for the first half of my life, Never really liked rugby but watch the footy with my dad and loved it so naturally i went for St.Kilda the only team i knew.

but soon after moving to Melbourne i got close to my great nan, and she loved hawks because my cousin played for them. I always wonted to play footy for a living so he was my idle, started following him witch turned me on to hawthorn...

and hear we are!

Hell no, the old man couldn't give a stuff about football.
Mum's side though was either Essendon or Melbourne, but since Dick Reynolds was a relative of my grandmother, the Bombers it was.

My dad worked for the ABC, which had a huge culture of following the Saints, so when I was born I was born into the tradition. Dad had a bit of a lull between 1991-1998 when he and his mates didn't get around to the footy as much due to the move from Moorabbin, but when I started getting into fully supporting them, dad and me got a membership and never looked back. Those lowly first few years made me fully appreciate when your teams up and about.

My dad supports Melbourne, but has never really been a hardcore follower.
Like he will only watch a game if it just happens to be on.

I started supporting North in the late ninties when i was around 8-10 years old.

Grandad is a Collingwood man, Nana is a Richmond girl, and my cousins are St Kilda girls, but I was the only Haslam born in Brisbane, and Dad has lived in Brisbane longer now than he lived in Melbourne, so both of us have been Brisbane fans from the start, both Bears and Lions. Dad since the dark inception of our team, and me from around 1992 when I was 8 and could understand what was going on.

It's tradition in my family to support a different team from your Dad. Granddad is a Carlton supporter. Dad is a Melbourne supporter. 4 uncles all support different teams but with severely different levels of fanaticism.
I originally chose the Lions when I was really little with my dads blessing as he figured with the draft they'd bounce back soon enough and living in far north Queensland I had to follow the Bears to a certain extent. I think I'm the only one that's happy that they merged.

My DAD (RIP) was a mad South Melbourne/Sydney Supporter and my brothers followed suit. I have always barracked for the Cats I even have pictures of me in Kindergarten wearing a Cats tshirt and I am an old fart now.

Yes and no. For this though I'll vote NO.

My old man followed country football more than AFL. I followed him in going for the Tyntynder Bulldogs but when it came to AFL I chose the Saints over the Bombers. Still have a soft spot for Essendon because of my parents and my mum's brother, but long term it's always the Saints for me :thumbsu:

An idea for another poll would be: Who will your kids follow?

Same team
or
Whoever they want

Not sure how to start a poll but it's an interesting question I think.

My old man supported North Melbourne in the old VFL days before I was born, but as soon as the Eagles came to be, he switched and supported them, and thus when I was born not long after, I became an Eagle. There was never any real pressure though, when I was younger, I tried following a bandwagon (what you do at 10), then when I came to my senses, stayed an Eagle. Have been a member for 7 years now and don't expect things to change in the near future.

My kids will most likely support West Coast, but I won't pressure them. Unless they think the Dockers are suitable to support... then there will be pressure!

Father is a Carlton supporter. Mum didn't follow a VFL side, just Sturt in SA.

Chose North in 1976 and very pleased with the decision.

(I notice the Carlton dads don't seem to have a good strike rate.)

This is commonly referred to as "evolution"

Father, Grand Father, Great Grand Father.

My Grandpa is a keen Norwood supporter, but for some reason my Dad started following Port Adelaide - I ended up following Norwood -

When the Crows started it become a natural decision to follow them - My Dad started following the Crows also until the Power started (he still goes for the Crows unless they play Port- which is quite unusual really -)

Same Team.

I will not raise a Collingwood fan. Either you go for St Kilda, or you don't like football. There is no medium.

My uncle had convinced my dad to go for Hawthorn rather than Richmond. Then at a young age my other uncle almost made me a Carlton supporter until my dad intervened and took me to some Hawthorn games. In my family I got a mix of Carlton, Collingwood and Hawthorn supporters.

:thumbsu: That's the spirit.

I think that's how every family should behave.

Agree, no other way. Can't believe some people even marry someone who supports an opposition team. Unhealthy basis for meaningful long term relationships.

Neither of my parents care about football at all. I think they're slightly embarrassed by how I carry on when watching the Crows. I get banished to the spare room if the game is on TV.
