My answer is both yes and no. My father was a great influence in me following the East Fremantle Sharks here in the west. But He follows West Coast Eagles but i don't He tried in vain to make me a eagle but i stayed Carlton.

My old man started out supporting St Kilda, switched to the Eagles when they came in and then switched to the Dockers since they were closer to where we lived

As for me when I was old enough to choose a side I chose West Coast as they were the only WA team at the time and i've stuck with them since.

My dad grew up in Yarraville, about a dropkick and a half from the Western Oval, so therefore he grew up a Footscray fan through and through. I was born in SA and every now and then we would go over to Melbourne to see the family and one day my dad made the mistake of taking me to the Western Oval to see Footscray play St Kilda.

I was only a kid but I still remember the moment I became a St Kilda fan. Trevor Barker took a hanger on some poor saps back and I was instantly in awe of him. My dad bears no ill will towards me because he knows it was him that took me to that game that made me a Saints fan.

My dad was from England and when he moved to Australia he moved to Sydney and started following Manly in the Rugby League. He had no real interest in the AFL. I grew up in Sydney and followed the North Sydney Bears in the Rugby League who were the arch enemies of Manly so my dad and I had many fallings out over Rugby League. The Bears were red and black. Hence my choice of Essendon when I converted to AFL. I haven't really followed the NRL for about ten years after the Bears were evicted.

I also lost interest in NRL after the demise of the grizzly Bears. And switched my sporting allegiance to my Dad's team, the Swans.

Well my dad grew up in the WAFL era. His dad supported South Fremantle, and so too did he.

I was born the year Fremantle were established. My dad jumped aboard the Freo bandwagon (living in said town most of his life), bought me their first ever away jumper, and I just grew into it. I never even considered another team. I just blindly followed, I suppose.

One of my uncles is a Melburnian and supports the Dockers as well. So too my pop. So we'll all collectively die of a coronary. But perhaps I'm accustomed to it? A death of disappointment then, I suppose.

Yes and no. He was a Crows supporter (albeit a fair weather one), but used to whinge about them to no end. Eventually my mum got sick of hearing him giving em shit and told him if he didnt like em, piss off! He took her literally and has followed Port ever since. He now enjoys complaining about them... :p
