Such a shame, would've been a big chance. As you say, horse has to come first.

Always look forward to this race. Will be a hell of a slog on a heavy track. My money will be on Mr Lincoln, with a saver on Privileged Son.
Good luck on the punt. I’ll watch closely. Had planned a great weekend away in Warrnambool too. But as I said horse welfare paramount. Hopefully Reddivo comes back better in 2025.

Just out of interest….does anyone else in the horse racing world here happen to play the game Derbyfever?

It’s a racing game online from the US - I’ve been playing it for well over 20 years almost since it started. It’s highly addictive with breeding and racing horses

Check it out if you have time

Alright. Boxing Day races tomoz. Firstly though, up early to watch the Chiefs dispose of whoever it is they're playing. Next!

Now to make some moolah ... and all before leftover lunchtime!

10:20am race 1 at Ellerslie (that's Auckland NZ for the unitiated). Mad Max gets to 1400m ... finally. If it's a soft 5 or better he's in at 54.5kgs. Nabba riding and he's goes well that direction. He's at 10s currently.

11:33 Race 3. Irish Legacy. This is my bet of the day. It can run. Roger James stable, won it's last start very well. By I Am Invincible out of Shillelagh. She was a bloody good mare. Won twice at the elite level at HQ, both times over a mile. This is one of two exceptionally well bred fillies/mares running around at Ellerslie tomorrow. $2.90 but I'm taking it.

14:32 Race 8 Sethito. The second of two well credentialled fillies/mares. Out of Suavito and by Super Seth. Suavito (Thorn Park) was a damn good mare. Won twice at the elite WFA level over 1400m. It could run and so can can the daughter. $2.60. The O'Sullivan stable is airborne.

My smokey is in race 10. Sparkles on the quick back up. It's unusual for Forsman to do that. Closed well last start, won't have done any work and 5 days between runs. Drops back from a mile to 1500m. I've seen this movie before. Drawn well, half a kilo above the minimum. 14s

The horse I'm keenest to have a look at at Ellerslie tomorrow is Snazzytavi, it looks like a horse that could have G1 potential either side of the Tasman.

Best bet for me tomorrow is Randwick R7 #11 Townsend - missed the kick last start, everything went wrong. Should get a cushy lead here, firm track and a light weight. Reckon $3.80 is a fair price.

She's the likely winner, no doubt.

I have a horse running at Caulfield today. It's Race 2 number 5 Dreamzel. First run this prep after a spell. It ran second first up last prep and followed this up with a third and then 3 wins before trailing off. Worth a look.
Good luck. 👍

My great mate ( who passed last year , and also was a passionate Bulldog ) sourced Suavito out of NZ and raced her with some of his friends. Of course she had to be one of the very few I declined 😢

Waikato stud paid $Mil + to get her back. Seemed the perfect union with their champion sire Savabeel.
But the cross just hasn’t worked. They were either unsound or not of great ability.
Bang - with Super Seth she now has a well deserved group horse .

She has another Savabeel in the 2025 Karaka catalogue.
They would be kicking themselves they didn’t go with Super Seth again, she has though just dropped another Super Seth this year.

Yeah that cross with Savabeel just hasn't worked ... how often could you say that ... but Super Seth:whitecheck:

If the one in the catalogue is a filly I'd probably keep it and try to iron out the kink in the next cross.

Very good mare that Suavito. Adding to probably the best broodmare band in the country although Cambridge Stud have had the cheque book out too.

I'm sacking Mad Max. Well named it seems. Mad! The busted fought the jockey for the first 1000m and was gone before the turn

👍 she was a tough mare , not the most pleasant to be around, but you put up with that with her ability !

We bought a Hello Youmzain colt out of Cambridge last year at Karaka.
Was great ,had lunch in their marquee everyday of the sale.
They really do the hospitality well and highly recommend.

Good luck Turtle, I’m sure all the Bulldog Bf fraternity will be cheering it home !

I see it’s a market mover , no doubt on the weight of Bulldog money now that you have tipped us all in 😅

Interesting they didn't nominate Hankee Alpha for this race today. The Waikato Stud filly gets her shot;). Hankee nominated for the Levin Classic at Trentham ... as is Sethito .... won't be able to put the clash off for too much longer. Will either be Trentham or Karaka (if they're both eligible).

Savaglee nominated for the Levin Classic also. Not sure I'd go there if the target is the Australian Guineas.

Don’t think Sethito is eligible.
didn’t go through the NZB sales.

Saw one today at Kurow of all places. First starter, missed the kick by 4 and stormed home for second to an odds on. Green as grass but there's clearly some ability.

Bred to stay like the proverbial mother in law. Not a well known trainer or stable. :think:I'm thinking it's a derby horse. Into the black book it goes. Unleash the Beast.

Mate I thought I knew almost all things NZ racing !
Never heard of Kurow in my born days .

As you say the beast looks to have some decent ability.
Certainly a very moderate maiden , but that’s a huge start he’s giving them for 3 yr old first starter.
I suspect the agents are already all over him.

Kurow is a great spot at this time of year. Central South Island inland from Oamaru heading to Omarama (the gliding capital of the world) and on to Twizel and Mt Cook. It's beautiful through that way. Holiday makers meeting a bit like Cromwell through these months. And if you're partial to a quality pinot it's not too far to Sam's place from there.

The beast sold for $1300 ... an Oaks Stud product. As you'd know, they occupy part of the strip that makes up some of the best horse breeding real estate anywhere, Trelawney and Windsor Park being more successful near neighbours.

The Oaks have under performed in my view given their locality and facilities. The stallion roster hasn't been strong and the broodmare band not amongst the best. Ironically, he's selling up but bought Savaglee at the sales, who if he wins over here, is a bloody good chance of being something.

Probably your agent ;) . You can never have too many🤣

What percentage do you want 🤣

Those blokes have very deep pockets these days and have our little group well covered.
The landscape over there has changed dramatically in the last 10 years, especially with so many NZ trainers now here.
We used to be able to trawl the trials and along with people on the ground source some handy horses.
But these days , agents of all the big stables in Auz making offers on anything that show some ability have made it almost impossible for us.

As an example , we identified and came very close to landing Only Words and Belle Plaisir — but 😢
So off we went to yearling sales and as you will well know, not an exact science !

Hi NW, just came across this !
Thought you may get a laugh , my notes on Ramala , now well in the betting for the 2yr old Karaka Million.
I discounted her mainly due to projected growth.
Cambridge bought her , what would they know 😅
We bought 516
