1st off congratulations on the win dogs.

Also.... I enjoy the dogs smashing the saints at docklands. For one reason and one reason only.

It's only because in a game day thread, there is a certain saints fan that always complaining about the umpires. Dogs dominated the 1st 3 quarters. Let the gas off in the final quarter but got home.

I enjoyed last season's dogs vs saints game, simply because the dogs won with supreme skill.

Marcus bontempelli is one of my favourite non Freo players.

Loved Bonts goal in the 2nd quarter. Took one step kicks it from 55 metres out and nails a goal with ease. Amazing stuff.

Mofra I enjoy your antics on bay 13 lol.

Dogs season isnt over yet.

And just like dogs in 2016 and 2021, I won't be surprised with the dogs creating havoc outside the top 4 again.
Onya buddy!
Freo have a distinct Bulldogs feel about them at the moment with Garlick, Boyd and Murphy holding roles there so I have a soft spot for them because of this.

So anyway, finally got to participate in the guard of honour on Friday night with Ms 1973. Was a great treat, even managed to snag a photo in the race as we exited with an all time great of the club.

Edit: sorry all the rest I have is video (i.e. raising the banner, players running out through the dry ice), but even though I've been in the rooms over the years at various times at WO, MCG, Waverley, PP (once courtesy of BF), and knowing past coaches, having one of my offsrpring experience it for the first time added to it. Plus being on a high then having the great John Schultz put his arm around me (I suspect more to steady his 83yo frame on a sloped race than a sign of affection!) just elevated the night to a new high. Even in that brief interaction, he is such a lovely man, it was actually quite emotional.

Bit of an outlier compared to other modern premiership teams.

Richmond, West coast, Bulldogs, hawthorn all didn’t spend top 15 picks on KPDs. Rance probably the highest selection at pick18.

Balta, Grimes, McGovern, Barrass, Hamling, Roberts, Morris, Lake, Frawley, Gibson.

None of them are top 20 picks except for Frawley who cost Hawthorn nothing in terms of picks to trade in.
I know your post talked about spending huge assets which apart from Melbourne is true. However, each of those teams with the exception of us in 2016 have at least 1 genuine gun (and most of them 2) in key defensive posts. We currently have 0

Need to build a bit of muscle to increase your metabolic rate; rather than diet. This is probably the easiest way I have found to lose the last 3-5kgs of fat. Although you might not actually lose weight.
NBates i lost weight on the CSIRO diet. Lots of food, nutritionally balanced. No calorie counting. You think, I won’t lose weight if I eat all that - but you do!

The strength of the current playing list is the mid-field. We have a poor defence and a good forward line with Naughton firing but average otherwise against the best teams. It should, by now, be clear - when we play a single Ruckman against the best teams we can't win. Aside from Bont's game, the most outstanding feature of the game against the Saints, was that we were able to nullify Marshall and Ryder the way we did. When both Marshall and Ryder fire the Saints have been able to beat even top 4 teams.

Sweet played a critical role in ensuring that our mid-field at all times could do its work.

Quite frankly, if it was not for this persistent reluctance to play two geniune ruckman we would be entrenched in the top 8 right now.
So by all means bag Sweet - but his ability on Friday night to counter both Marshall and Ryder in the Ruck contest was outstanding. And our ability tow curb the influence of the St Kilda Ruck men was every bit as significant as Bont's performance in delivering us a win.
Agree 💯%.

He is limited, but he is what we have at the moment. I just wish Bevo would play them together for an extended period and see what happens. Do it for the rest of this year.
We most likely won't make finals, but Sweet gets to support English in a series of big games, gains more experience and you never know he might just turn out ok.

Failing that, he's a stop gap til Darcy is up and running

So strong in the air too, plus a bit hit and miss in front of goal but actually has some goal sense and a knack for hitting the scoreboard. He’s actually a very good forward and could possibly be a great forward if that’s where we see him
Bugger Castagna, to me he's more like when we played Johnno as a forward. Undersized and puts his body on the line to mark it. He is going to be a dead set ripper

Nice pics. And wonderful for you to meet Big John. Someone I've always admired. We use the term "the great man" a little too liberally around here in my view, but he's one I'd happily apply it to.

Just concerned about your health, f1973. Your face looks a little jaundiced, although I can see you were trying to put on a brave one.

Agree dogwatch, they say "never meet your heroes, you'll be disappointed" (or something like that). But I've passed John many times at Marvel over recent years - was almost tempted a few years ago to ask him for a photo on the steps leading from Marvel concourse down to Bourke St, but my son dissuaded me (probably rightly) as John was focussed on getting up the steps, and didn't need some gushing fan-boi wanting a photo causing him to potentially miss a step and stumble, or worse!

I've seen so many people (of a certain age) greet him as they pass him at games over the years, and he seems to acknowledge every one, invariably with a smile. Even Friday night, I made sure I asked politely (but nervously), and he was more than happy to oblige, even asked young Ms 1973 if the photo was ok?

An icon on and off the field. In the absence of any of the 1954ers, it was fitting that the 2016 cup was presented by Gentleman John Schultz. :bulldogs:

Don't see it. But will agree to disagree.
I haven't been able to sleep all weekend, IM, bad conscience. I mixed up your response in an exchange that Chalkie was having with a person of lesser quality than you, I wasn't having a crack at you, I think that you are very probably possibly arguably honourable enough.

He dead set reminds me of Toby Greene in our forward line. Slightly shorter perhaps, but he has some mongrel and is very good at leading and marking above his head.

Oh, Castagna's an old chestnut.

Under-rated post dw. And seeing you're probably too modest to explain it for those who missed it, "castagna" is the literal Italian translation for chestnut.

And "Coniglio" of course is rabbit.

Whereas "Liberatore" is liberator, and "Bontempelli" of course means supreme being.

So while we often luck out with the dud brother, we nail recruiting players with strong Italian names.

Avanti cani di toro! :bulldogs:

It's not pescatarian (limited pescatarian at that)
Cold Turkey. Israeli diet for the first week and a day followed by 5:2 for the next 6 months. The killer is the first 8 days, even worse is the final 2 days. No pain, no gain.

You’ll look like you’ve just bee released from Changhi 1945

Do you still get to have a grog now and then? I dropped 4kg through dropping milk out of my coffee’s over about 6 months. I did drink a lot of coffee but now I need to drop another 4. I’m weighing up what dietary element I need to sacrifice. Grog is last resort.

Instead of sacrificing any particular dietary element, why not just drop a meal? If you currently eat three meals a day just go down to two. You'll be hungry for a while until you get used to it. Another option is to just have one day per week where you don't eat. I used to fast every Sunday to get my weekly caloric intake down.

Seen everyone else is giving healthy weight advice, here is mine.

Don’t skip breakfast, and have a good size healthy one, cut out sugar and alcohol, have a reasonable lunch, and just a snack for dinner. Don’t eat after six o clock.

The way we eat is half the problem, a big dinner at night when our bodies are shutting down means it just sits there.

Alcohol reduction is a massive winner. Not just from the reduction in calories but in how it impacts our diet choices whilst drinking and when hungover.

Alcohol also has a surprisingly heavy mental toll which becomes apparent when you abstain for a while. A healthy mindset makes it easier to make healthy choices.

No doubt alcohol can have a negative mental toll when alcohol is consumed in excess, poor decisions are made, regrets, hangovers etc, but I also think it can be a nice release at the end of the day.

On Saturday night I had 5-6 stubbies in front of a fire on top of my hill by myself whilst listening to old Icehouse tunes. I finished drinking and then meditated for 30 minutes. Returned to the family as fresh as a daisy.

Alcohol are just wasted excess calories however. I really love my grog and have experimented with drinking whilst exercising. Previously myself and a like-minded friend used to complete Squat (legs) sessions whilst drinking OP rum mixed with a small amount of ginger beer. It was good for 6-7 sets but went downhill after that.

4 direct score assist, 8 SI and a goal from JJs 16 touches - he’s becoming a super high impact player in our offence. Loving his role at the moment. JJ, West & Cody is a good mix
I was really looking forward to his role this year. I thought he had the potential to kick 25-30 goals. Unfortunately that calf just dragged on and on. Hopefully he's keen to stay on next year in a similar role on a smaller contract.

I Waa staying the same weight until I started to count under 2000 calories a day and went from drinking a fair bit of Pepsi to no Pepsi Max and equal, that's all I did and I've gone from 100kgs to 89kgs ATM.

Never drink pepsi - sparkling water only & coffee sugar has been replaced with Natvia. Cals down around 1200 - 1400 per day. Fish & veg only diet. This has been over a couple of years. Hardly call this an answer to your diet prayers. Being 57 probably doesn't help.
Mine to loose weight was 2250 calories per day to loose weight gradually, but I always tend to do about 1400 to 1600 mine was actually Pepsi and norm sugar, that use to stop me from loosing weight.

Why do you drink Pepsi do you think? Was it the caffeine that your body craved?
